Badass! I didn't know you were from Missouri too. Its my first year ever hunting. Your videos are alot of help. I hope after rifle season I will be able to find my way into getting some food in my freezer.
I usually wait to buy camo clothing when it is on clearance towards the end of the season to use the following season. Still rocking a pair of camo bibs I bought 8 years ago. I also usually buy a 3XL or 2XL camo long sleeve shirt that I can put on over any jacket or non camo tops I wear instead of forking out a couple hundred bucks for a jacket. As far as scent controlled clothing goes, I don't buy into because think about, we don't wear clothes that seal to our skin, so air and scent is constantly being release from neck, sleeve, waist line, boots etc....
i agree with everything you said but acorn rage in the jug actually works pretty good where i live but deer could like different things in different places
Your right...here in West Alabama they tend to kind of get sick of corn and eat more acorns/greenfields. Tip: buy a few pumpkins and toss them in a favorite spot early season. They seem to enjoy the "innards". 👍
I'm glad you feel that alot of deer products are a waste of money. I have deer hunted most of my life ( 68 ) now and got suckered in on a few things over the years but if you play the wind, learn to move correctly in the woods and know how to shoot properly you will get meat. Just look back at what our forefathers hunted in, and they all had campfires. Our minds are our best weapons. Good luck
What you say is pretty much true 👍 I'm not paying $10-20 dollars for a 4 oz bottle of doe pee. In the hunting shows guy just pour that stuff like water, pouring it all over the ground, on trees everywhere. I have bought Code Blue and Tinks 69. I didn't have bucks running to my stand saying shoot me shoot me !!! lol. In my younger days I had to wear Walmart clothes and boots... froze my ass off many days! I now wear unser armor base layers usually 2s but if really cold 3s. Well worth the money 💰 my outer clothes are Bass Pro or Cabelas bibs coats. Windproof and waterproof make a huge difference! My boots are Danner 400, 800 and 1200 and well worth the money. I also have LaCrosse alphaburly rubbers and Cabelas 2000 gr very cold weather boots. Your correct about gimmick foods or attraction food. $20 for a 4lb bag is nuts! If you put it out thinking it will attract deer by the next day it will be gone and you won't see anything. Good woodsmanship will get you a buck or even just deer and won't cost you a fortune. Find the deer, find the doe groups, hunt upwind and you'll get your deer. Patience is key also, don't rush in to a bedding area. I start way back and watch and learn, figuring out what the deer are doing and sit on buck trails and let them come to me. Good luck to everyone
I’m from Georgia where baiting is legal and the only thing on this list that I wouldn’t consider a waste is stuf like acorn rage planting food plots can be a pain and not every body can afford it so that’s where that comes in however the best tactic I have is A Big J Block
I’m subscribing just because I too thought the banjo minnow was going to help me catch soooooo many fish when I was a kid. Thinking back I never caught one off of them lol
You’re 100% right. Camo is grossly overrated. I shot my first buck wearing an old pair of black snow pants and an old black hoodie sweater. I usually go hunting wearing my work clothes and have deer in front of me almost every time. More important things are scent, location and wind. Great video sir.
IF you believe in the concept of vanilla as a cover scent, The strongest, cheapest, most useful form of that is vanilla coffee creamer ! REALLY strong, and a great tool for seeing wind direction, just toss a couple pinches off your stand, easy to see the wind direction. I carry a ziplock with a few spoonfuls and I can't say if deer are attracted to it or repelled by it, I have no direct evidence of either. But it is handy to check wind which is what I use it for. Even in a bag in your coat the stuff reeks of vanilla.
I'm a new subscriber and new to bow hunting. You're practical advice is great. I'm trying to keep it simple and your videos really helped me not waste a pile of money on not-so-useful stuff. I've been doing practical scent control and wind direction. I Stalked upwind two different times to 40 yards of two does last weekend. They didn't smell me but did finally see me. I'm learning many hunting tips and tactics from your videos. Thanks.
I’ve always been pretty basic when I hunt as far as gear. I figure if paw paw did it with out all the extras then I can to. Just find some white oaks in the early to mid season and a spot where oaks turn to pines with lots of under brush for the rut and post rut. Two products I can swear by however is the estrus dripper mock scrap can and the hunter specialties dominate buck fogger for rut and post rut. I’ve had success several times but I remember one time especially where I sprayed some of it and watched the fog go through the under brush of a pine thicket 5 seconds later this really nice main frame 8 point with a drop tine came running out of the thicket looking side to side like he was ready to attack anything that stood between him and a hot doe. shortly after that he was hanging from a skinnin rack.
Got the Banjo Minnow as a Christmas present when I was a kid.... actually caught a bunch of smallies and largemouth on them. I didn't know it "wasn't supposed to work" until years later when I "knew more." hahaha
True. I bought Wal-Mart camo this year for gun season. First time hunting in many years. What I did from your videos is scent control and hunt the wind. Had many close encounters with deer that I have never had before. Did use tinks during the rut and it did bring in Bucks. Even used a UA-cam Estrus call video during the 2nd rut on December 23 and brought in a young buck within 20 yards. Did I get a deer? No. My positioning was off or something hindered a ethical shot. I hunted from the ground and see the need for a climbing stand as that would have been the difference. Scent control and wind was key to me seeing deer though I believe. I hunt public land btw. My buddies got theirs on private land. Public land is definitely a challenge between lack of being able to watch deer all year like private land and other hunters blowing scent into a spot. Still love it though. Thanks for the videos. Practical real world truth!
I love my Ozonics, I've beat, skunk and squirrels come up to the blind. Do I believe that it will make or break a hunt, no. But I feel that it increases my odds. I love your channel, keep the good work.
I probably spoke too harshly on the ozonics. I just hear people talk about needing to get one, but they don’t understand the basics of scent control. And thank you for the compliment!
While I've always been aware of these promotional strategies, I kept subconsciously wondering what that symbol was on UA-camrs' hats, or shirts. Sitka... It all makes sense now.
I almost hate to tell you this but me and my son purchased some banjo minnows and we caught fish every time we went out as a matter of fact the bass hit them so hard that they ripped them apart and I had to buy more but they were definitely worth it!!
I think deer see blue and then yellow best if I remember right. Invest in a cheap quality range finder and use it to know exactly what distance you will be shooting. Pre range your surroundings so you will know.Very important when shooting past 150 yards.
I use ozonics and still hunt the wind. I use it just in case the deer come in from the opposite direction they normally come from. It definitely works but is not 100 percent of the time. Hunt the wind for sure but a back plan is always nice
I'm a strong advocate of Ozonics.... Not because I'm a deer hunter, but because I love scarfing hard boiled eggs and then chasing them with black coffee! 😜
I've got a couple matching sets of sitka pants and shirt I wear during early season and I've had them for like 4 years but I refuse to buy one of there $400 jackets. For my late season gear I usuy buy/use Drake non typical. I have found tho that Walmart does sell descent camo pants!
Dude, the original Banjo Minnow was dynamite in my hand. The corkscrew was the weak link in the system. Ohh, and I lost a lot of them to Pike and pickerel.
WE AGREE ON ALOT. I LIKE MY HEAVY WOOL. IT HAS NO MORE UV THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WOODS. REALLY, REALLY, LOVE MERINO WOOL BASE LAYERS. WOOL WILL NOT BLOCK THE WIND AND VERY WINDY DAYS WILL SUCK YOUR HEAT OUT FOR SHIVERING. BEING A OLD SCHOOL HUNTER, ER OLD. I DO LOVE THE TIDE-WE HEATED JACKET LINER UNDER MY WOOL, BULLET PROOF AND KEEPS ME OUT THERE. BUNNY BOOTS, OH YA!!!
I don’t use scent stuff but I know old guys love vanilla and I think that’s why the nose jammer stuff smells like that. I know if people do want to use that stuff you can make your own by getting a bottle of vanilla extract and mix it with water in a spray bottle. I did it once when I first started and it attracted so many bugs I never used the stuff again. I think it takes everyone a few years to realize they just need to hunt the winds.
Don’t agree with some of the comments about the banjo minnow. I have them they are really good twitching them through light to medium Lilly pads and grass. Caught a lot of bass on them! But I can now do the same style motion and presentation with a super fluke and they don’t hang up as much. The down fall is the fluke has less motion but less hang ups. Banjo minnows mid size have the best motion and more snags. Still have both in my box
Yeah my main point is the hype around it, and how it really made me think I needed that lure to catch big fish. I’m sure it works perfectly fine if you know how to use it.
Holy shit my dude brought up the banjo minnow! Hahaha I remember the commercial and always wanted to try it I was definitely sucked into that product being the best thing to have bass fishing. Lol never did buy one and I’m glad one of my friends who’s parents were well off and bought him all the new stuff got him some and I never caught anything using it and I don’t think he did either
People can laugh at me, but I have had really good results with Conquest Scents Evercalm. I buy it in the stick format and use it on my boots and pants( not my shirt..because I take layers on and off during the day). I hunt trad, from the ground, and have had deer come up to my and actually lick my pants where I apply the stick. I wouldn't say it's a miracle item or anything and I also follow a very strick policy of washing my clothes in scent free detergent and storing them outside at least a month before season...to at least minimize the scent on them. That said, I without a doubt helps to prevent deer from blowing out when the wind shifts during a stalk or someting like that. All being what it is...quiet clothing, stong stalking skills, and working the wind are all infinitely more important.
From my experience in rut and post rut,I feel like peeing out of your stand might actually help. At the end of the day a mans pee contains traces amounts of testosterone witch is what bucks are smelling for and if your a female hunter it could help also especially(no I don’t mean to be inappropriate) if it’s that time of the month because you’ve got tons of estrogen in your pee and bucks are also smelling for that.
I think minerals are fine for concentrating movement to a specific spot in front of a camera or in front of a stand in a larger food plot. As long as you’re not buying them thinking you need them to grow bigger antlers or something like that.
SHINNY CAMO LOVERS MAY WANT TO SPRAY THE CAMO WITH UV KILLER, SO NOT TO GLOW IN THE WOODS LIKE A STOP LIGHT! NEW SUB. FROM YOUR NORTH, 641... ALWAYS THUMBS UP!
I used flannel and baking soda, it work great and used Walmart camo for late season. I’ve tried using other scent elimination stuff it’s false, I still got busted but I do use the scent elimination bag that uses ozone but that’s it. I’ve used deer pee once in awhile mix it my own urine I had 50/ 50 mix. But I did use many products for attracting deer there a hit a miss
All of these products are hard to justify because there’s no real evidence they actually work. For me I think if they give you more confidence then use them.
I don’t think they’re “bad” per se. I don’t use many deer scents. Mostly I’ll use Tinks Doe P as a cover scent, but only sometimes. I’d say your major brands would be fine. Maybe someone else would have a different opinion though.
I’ve never had Tinks 69 work. My friend always suggest it, but it has never been successful. In fact, I’ve had more does run away from it. They would run up to where I had it hanging, blow and scurry off. I rarely bother with it anymore.
@@InformedOutdoors I need to look into options like that. Our rules changed the last few years where any doe scent has to be synthetic to supposedly prevent CWD.
Tinks 69 works for me on my property.last year I used ever calm and vs1 the real stuff and I killed a buck by 10 am the second morning a nice 9 pt but 8 am...trophy rocks do work I have them out on my property all year long..been using them for over 12 years
I tried the banjo minnows never had any luck. I used to fall for all gimmicks I saw on outdoor channel. I hardly use ANYTHING Now I wash my clothes in armerhammer backing soda lol that’s about all I use try to hunt the wind as much as possible
Brother, TRUST ME!!! THE BANJO TOTALLY SUCKED!!!! IT WAS A FULL ON RIP OFF!!! Hell, i might be able to dig one up out of my stock pile for ya, if you've still got the itch to try it out, ill send ya everyone I can find.
I actually know the guy that invented buck bomb..never had any luck with them except the one they don't make..the young buck buck bomb I have had good luck with but you can't find them any where..it's all for estrus or big buck sent...that I have never had any luck with
As many, if not more, deer are shot wearing hunters orange as camouflage. Go figure. And a good number of deer are killed w/o bows/arrows/rifles…they are killed by vehicles going 75mph or less by people wearing shorts/tshirts with cologne and perfume. Haha.
What I have always found kinda funny and basically kinda makes me mad knowing what is going on but here in Indiana baiting is illegal and just like you said you can’t hunt the area for two weeks after it’s gone and I get it kinda for pictures but I’m with you buy a bag of goat feed or corn like you said so anyway Walmarts in my area put all that bait stuff out when they put the hunting stuff out right before deer season and that bait and crap sells out almost every single year and there is a lot of it in the stores so that means there is that many people minus a few that use it for picture purposes are illegally baitingdeer and that’s what makes me mad and you would think that Walmart should know the laws or their stores area when it comes to the sporting goods section. I mean they most of the time even have the booklets for free they give out on the sport section on the counter that has all the rules and regulations for the state right there. They should have to take it off the shelves 2 weeks before season starts just like we have to if we was to use some of that awesome packaged food. So anyway that just grinds my gears lol. Support from southern Indiana.
Rule number 1 ..your not fooling a deer nose ..play the wind.and get up high...dents are a joke...if you want to bait use corn..many with some Cmere.deer...iv. Had good luck with that
You are spot on. Baiting is not only questionable from an ethical point of view, it is a welcome mat for the spread of diseases, especially CWD. And don't be too smug if CWD is not in your area. Sooner or later, it will be. A friend who was in the deer pee scent selling business confided to the group we hunted with that one of the major deer urine sellers actually peddled doe goat urine.
You will never ever defeat a deers nose ever period ,hunt the wind. Correctly and it will make you a better hunter as well ,the same with scentblocker clothing ,,with that being said I have the money to spend on better clothing I own sitka and kuiu and it is designed with materials and fit zipper placement ect it is worth the money ,will you kill more deer with it ? No but quality is different than the newest coolest thing to make a buck .
I agree with most any and everything you say, but and except BUCK 🦌 BOMB. For the last 10 years or so I have had great successes with BB during the early ,prime rut dates anywhere from October 30th- November 13th, the BUCKS ,Young and young mature come to it, it will only spook Does in my field studies if at all. This last season swear on my Daddy , a young Spike walked right up to my stand I was in about 3:30pm, plenty of sun light he smelled and licked the steps on the stand. I spray it on my boots, lower stand legs and perimeter circle around any stand I'm hunting. BUCK Bomb has worked wonders for me...ijs
Don't worry, you're not missing out on much. I finally bought the banjo minnow in my early 20s and to date I've caught 0 fish with them.
😂
Me too, I have got zero fish
Badass! I didn't know you were from Missouri too. Its my first year ever hunting. Your videos are alot of help. I hope after rifle season I will be able to find my way into getting some food in my freezer.
Always wear rubber boots allways check wind direction! No scents

My thing is tracking deer if snow what a ton of fun

first of all love videos i tried that nose jammer as you said spooked my deer for several days and the banjo minnow really catch big fish
The original banjo minnow was good and caught lots of fish. 6 pound ohio large. The new ones are junk.

I use scent lok, its great clothing i think the activated carbon, if it works is a bonus

60% of the time, it works every time!
Very good info and your exactly right!
I'm a strong advocate of Ozonics.... Not because I'm a deer hunter, but because I love scarfing hard boiled eggs and then chasing them with black coffee! 😜
Could get the underwear with the carbon inserts...
Agree! And I’m certainly not anti food plot but summer weeds are around 20% protein! You gained a subscriber!
Is you can see the fish, you can catch it with the banjo minnow, I have cought more than a few Pike with them.
I've got a couple matching sets of sitka pants and shirt I wear during early season and I've had them for like 4 years but I refuse to buy one of there $400 jackets. For my late season gear I usuy buy/use Drake non typical. I have found tho that Walmart does sell descent camo pants!

Ohh, and I lost a lot of them to Pike and pickerel.
I still use cedar and walk through cow piles. It's only a stupid idea when it doesn't work lol.
If they’re used to the smell of cows that’s a great idea. I’ll walk through horse manure on purpose because they’re used to it.

Tinks 69 works for me on my property.last year I used ever calm and vs1 the real stuff and I killed a buck by 10 am the second morning a nice 9 pt but 8 am...trophy rocks do work I have them out on my property all year long..been using them for over 12 years
Magic dust sounds like a name of a drug. 🤣🤣🤣
What about buck bomb doe estrus? Ive used it on my drags and such. Just cheaper and smells fine to me lol
If it’s the liquid then I think that’s fine. I was mostly talking about the ones the send out smoke. That just doesn’t make much sense to me.
Ozonics work well in a blind.
Does it give you headaches? Last time I used one in a blind my head started hurting after about an hour. Could be unrelated too.
I tried the banjo minnows never had any luck. I used to fall for all gimmicks I saw on outdoor channel. I hardly use ANYTHING Now I wash my clothes in armerhammer backing soda lol that’s about all I use try to hunt the wind as much as possible
They're easy to fall for, and you typically don't know it's gimmicky until you try it.
But the action looked sooooo good on tv
@@InformedOutdoors yea, it did
Thankfully they can't sell woodsmenship, or the deer herds would be in big trouble.
I actually know the guy that invented buck bomb..never had any luck with them except the one they don't make..the young buck buck bomb I have had good luck with but you can't find them any where..it's all for estrus or big buck sent...that I have never had any luck with
Ever given a reason why they don’t make that one?
@@InformedOutdoors no..he is in big with the tv people now..forgot where he came from..we never see him down in southern MD anymore

9 bucks for a 100lb of corn where I am
That always bothered me too. Like entrapment.
Rule number 1 ..your not fooling a deer nose ..play the wind.and get up high...dents are a joke...if you want to bait use corn..many with some Cmere.deer...iv. Had good luck with that
Play the wind?? Lol I smoke in my stand and kill bucks no problem..
I wish I could say I was surprised they used goat instead of deer.
If baiting is “questionable” (which it’s not) then so are food plots. They are both food sources.
😀👍🏽💖
You will never ever defeat a deers nose ever period ,hunt the wind. Correctly and it will make you a better hunter as well ,the same with scentblocker clothing ,,with that being said I have the money to spend on better clothing I own sitka and kuiu and it is designed with materials and fit zipper placement ect it is worth the money ,will you kill more deer with it ? No but quality is different than the newest coolest thing to make a buck .
I agree with most any and everything you say, but and except BUCK 🦌 BOMB.
For the last 10 years or so I have had great successes with BB during the early ,prime rut dates anywhere from
October 30th- November 13th, the BUCKS ,Young and young mature come to it, it will only spook Does in my field studies if at all.
I found Tinks69 works very well.
