this guy has single handedly help me transform my life with this one video.i really appreciate u my man. I had spent about 400 on trash that were not equips for the job. also he helped me get the setting right for a dark print and the right film. To this day some 3 yrs later I return for references
I can confirm that running the print through twice will give you very dense blacks. As long as you take your time the registration on the second print will be spot on. You will have to let it sit for about 5 minutes after the second pass to let the ink dry completely. Hope this helps.
Purchase, per your recommendation, back in May 2019. Don't regret it. Great printer. Have used for several applications (mainly screen printing). Thank you.
even if you wanted to produce HUGE prints. Like poster sized prints. You can simply block your design out into multiple 13x19 images in photoshop. Print them out on this printer and use clear scotch tape to bring them together for exposure. It's more work but it's actually kind of fun. It's great for producing bigger prints.
I used to use an Epson ET-2550 ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , an early model of the ink tank style. It worked well, but had one nuisance that drove me up the wall; if you didn't put it in high quality print mode you'd get a streak across the page. I'm happy to say I have yet to see this with this printer. The print quality has been fantastic so far, the set up was super easy. All in all I'm very happy with this printer.
Since a handful of people have been wanting some links to some of the things I mentioned: Canon Pixma IX6820: amzn.to/2q0CMiA Fixxons 13"x19" Waterproof Films: amzn.to/2p7X44S Refillable Ink Cartridges for the Printer: amzn.to/2p7XHvv Third Party Ink Cartridges: amzn.to/2w7BDq0
Sorry guys. Looks like those particular ones got taken off Amazon. I did find these although they are more expensive (I have not tested these) amzn.to/2tY047Z
Thanks for this!!! I blew the print head out on my epson during peak season and couldn't find a replacement Epson in town. Found this Canon and totally love the quality. Life saver.... Thanks
7 years later and this video is still relevant. I needed an inkjet printer for transparencies to make contact photographic prints using cyanotype processing, and today I picked up a lightly used one that came with a complete set of canon ink cartridges and some 13x19 paper. I paid a whopping $40!! Not a scratch on it, and it even had the protective plastic over the pixma logo. Prints perfectly, and had no problem connecting to wifi even though I have read that a lot of people have problems with that. The setup for that is definitely a bit clunky in that the first time I went through the wizard, it didn't mention that you need the usb plugged in as well if you are setting it up for wifi, and at a certain point the instructions tell you to disconnect the usb to complete the wifi setup. Anyway, excited to have a printer again, and the screen burning thing is entirely new to me so what the hell, I might try that too.
This printer really works. I had a hard time getting it to print (kept feeding film right through the printer). I found out that using it wirelessly was the problem. Next I had to reinstall the drivers a couple times because of this and the fact I wasn't getting the controls (paper settings etc) featured in the video. Don't give up, this is a great match. I did run into detail issues when exposing, but I was using diffusion dither and it just wasn't the best for tiny detail - also couldn't wash out a .5 pt stroke. AMAZING for the money.
Yeah the wireless on it is pretty wonky. Just set it to plain paper high quality. We are on our 3rd one so they break but I couldn't find anything better. Any one recommend a 13x19 laser printer ?
Hey I went out and bought this printer and i must say its been one of the best buys for my garage printing. I need to step up my exposure unit game now.
this setup worked really well for me. i grabbed the iP8720 and use the Arthur inks. If you create the PDFS in illustrator/photoshop and do a lot of film printing, i print in CMYK mode instead of grayscale. You can use the CMYK value 40, 30, 30, 100 and will give you a really deep black. Printing a lot of films in grayscale will drain the gray cartridges really fast, and kind of hard to get just Gray cartridges ink bulk for cheap.
@@davidasog7244 Late response, but im very happy with the IP8720. no problems with film output on 13x19" films with multiple layers. Simple halftones were fine too. Havent dabbled into any cmyk or process printing with it tho.
Thanks so much! I was about to return my Fixxon order but I so happened to already have this same canon printer for my photo printing. Soooooo happy I found your video!
Thank you soooo much for your willingness to teach people about screen printing! You're an Excellent Teacher! I appreciate how you provide reason for why the details on how to screen print! May God continue to bless you 🙏🏽❤️
thanks for the review, just ordered this after a ten year old HP printer stopped working. we were sick of it anyway, black ink was $42!!! time for a new printer and this one is perfect for our small operation. thanks man!
managed to get better prints on tracing paper by changing my print settings in gimp to photo and greyscale. cheers, now I don't need to put the paper through the printer twice.
Man.... I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video. I just got mine in today. I have the epson artisan 1430 gonna convert it over to sublimation an use the canon for my screen printing for film positives, again really good advice and THANKS!!!!
Thanks for the heads up. I was actually pricing the epsons and I'm glad I ran into your video. Great advice. You saved the day (and my money). I also modeled my washout booth based on your video. Thanks again.
The first few positives I did were very opaque. Now it is not so dark. Same settings, but new 3rd party cartridge. Had to double up a 4 color rush order today. Does file type maybe have a difference for deposit on black? It is a clutch printer for emergency films... but I am nervous for this to be the go to. It drinks ink. It is a challenge to get a good opaque film. Unless I black out all the cartridges... which can void warranty. I voided my last warranty on my pixma-pro blacking out all cartridges. Not sure if I like this printer or not for positives yet.
Hmmm are you printing them out of Photoshop or illustrator through a RIP or anything. Are you setting the media type to photo matte high quality if you're going through Photoshop? I'm sorry it's sucking!

I’m just getting into this and found this Vedio. I was trying to decide what printer to go with. For a beginner seeing all these responses I’m sold. I still have questions though like what dtf ink can I put in this canon? All I see is epson compatible ink.
That Arthur Imaging ink is awesome.... I use that same 250 size for my Canon MX922, which is partially why I will get the IX6820 instead of the Epson. Of course, besides the price.
I used the settings in the video and I didn't get ANYTHING like the image at 4:12 . What gives? I'm kind of pissed because the last few weeks I'm been trying everything to figure what went wrong with my screens and it was the film negative the whole time.
Thanks for the video. I bought a used Epson and of course the ink is empty. I may just buy a new Canon and start off fresh. Thanks for the detailed info. Your film looks great!
Thank you for the info on the opportunity. I'm a small time printer and I think I've found my affordable printer. Now, do you have recommendations for an affordable exposure unit. I think I can make a wash out both and make an diy exposure unit, but I don't want to scrounge for a drawer, shop at home Depot for a halogen lamp but a drill etc. Thanks
Thanks for the demo. I can't afford an Epson, I got lucky and a pharmacy store threw out their Epson which was faulty due to ink contaminating the optical sensor which I managed to clean out and works great. Would you happen to know what are the most darkest black inks brands / vendors to use which blocks UV light, any recommendations for Epsons and Canon? I am aware that both printers uses different print head technologies. Thanks.
So what do you do with the other cartridges like cmyk do you just use the regular printer inks and your black fill it with special ink for scree printing
I'm sure your video and others like it caused the cost of this printer to almost triple (it has been 5 years). I've tried the steps you posted for the black, but it's still not as opaque as the black on your print here. I've tried changing the CMYK and diff. paper settings, but it still looks hazy on the back side. Any other tips you may have? Thank you!
Hi Casey! Thanks so much for this video! I'm new to screen printing, but would like to try it can you tell me what type of film I need and can you screen print in color?
I'm in Malaysia and the ix6820 isn't available. The standards here are the Epson L1300 and L1800 ($400+USD). I found a Canon ix6770 and ix6870. It seems there are a couple of small differences maybe, but would the ix6870 be okay for film positives. I'm new at this and just can't afford to dump the cash and not have it work.🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for the review. Subscribed and liked. This is a weird question, but I'll have this printer in a shared space (a makerspace) and I want it to ONLY be for screen printing, so I don't want the colors available, because some will be just printing pictures and wasting ink. Is there a way to make sure this is black only? If color cartridges are removed will it still work?
Great video. My question is can the CMY cartridges be filled up with black instead of CMY to get even a darker black. At work we have a very large Epson printer where all the color cartridges were replaced with black ink do you think this is possible with this printer?
+Marco Perez there are refillable cartridges available for this printer and I imagine you can fill them with whatever color you want and the printer will have no idea what color you've used
How many 11x17 pages can be loaded into the feeder tray? I need to print 11x17 mechanical dwgs which are about 20 pages. Would i have to feed one 11x17 page at a time?
Hi, is there any chance to get simmilar resaults on differend but SMALLER printer? Anny Recommendations to get brilliant black non transparent positives? Just to save a money cause I dont need such a big size. I need just basicly to print at maximum A4 sheet
Thanks so much for all your advice and cool videos!!!! What's the difference between 5760x1440 and 9600x2400 print resolution? Which one would be considered better?
Hello, I took your advice and purchased this printer. It did an excellent job on my transparencies. I used the matte paper option also. Screen turned out great. I have only done a exposure test and have not yet made a print run yet. Price probably went up after you advertised them but still $136.00 is ok. I am a bit concerned about using third party inks. I want to. How did yours work out on this printer?
just starting to learn screen printing. Thought I'd make a black transparancie of a color photo of my dog. Have NO idea how to do this. any step by step youtube videos that can help me?
Since the price is around 300 bucks on Amazon right now do you have a another inkjet printer you would recommend or should I buy this one? Thanks again
derrick porter I use this printer for that, BUT apparently I don’t have my colors set to the printer and some colors down come out correct and idk how to fix that. For example neon colors down exist. Blue looks blurple etc
Sold my professional shop off 6 years ago. Dcided to get back in with a tabletop unit. Pulled out mt old Epson r1800 which is clogged and just spent $18 trying to flush it. NOt sure if it's completely flushed because now It's telling me I need ink of course. NOt to mention I would have to $150 of new in in it anyway if it works. Just saw your video. Dude you just sold this not a newbie a printer!! Won't work with my old Accurip but that's fine for now. Just want to get me feet wet!!!! Thanks!!! Used your link so hope you get a few bucks!
I really appreciate it +ExposedRoot! I hope you have a lot of good success with it! Some people have been asking about what rip to use with it and I need to do some more research to find what works well and I might have to do a follow-up if I do.
Holy moly. So I put it in my cart on Amazon at $119. Wanted to get a few other things but wanted to finish up a shirt design. I came back less than an hour later and reloaded and says no longer available from that seller which was sold & shipped by Amazon.. Next lowest 3rd party price is $176!!! Did they sell the last 4 in and hour?? Anyway I panicked and saw that B & H still had it for $119 matching Amazon. Also saw my local BB had it on sale for $149. I hopped in my truck shot over to BB and snagged 1 of the last 2 they had and of course got them to price match B&H at $119. That was a close one!!! Also...BB loves this printer. This is the printer they feature in the camera dept. It's not with the rest of the printers. They had a full photo wall showing off this printer. They love it and he was going on about it. I explained to the sales guy I just need it to print black!!!! Don't think he got it. Thanks again. I'm now a subscriber.
Okay wow. Yeah I keep checking back and forth on Amazon and it looks like sometimes they have one in stock and other times its not listed. I like to think that we wiped them out. We broke it, boys! Thats good to hear that other stores are matching the price. Haha that sales guy was probably like "why wouldnt you just buy a laser printer if you want to print black?"

9600x2400 will be considered better.
The multiplication represents the print density to make it easy to understand
Recvd my printer and ink can't wait to get started.
Nice video, your awesome! Did you use a special black ink instead of the CMYK ink?
Hello, I took your advice and purchased this printer. It did an excellent job on my transparencies. I used the matte paper option also. Screen turned out great. I have only done a exposure test and have not yet made a print run yet. Price probably went up after you advertised them but still $136.00 is ok. I am a bit concerned about using third party inks. I want to. How did yours work out on this printer?
Great jac! I'm using third party inks now and can't really tell a difference between the original ink it shipped with
I paid my for $225.00 two years ago.

What about heat transfer paper?

A C but it’s print transfer paper right?
What inks do you use? Can you use inks from other printers, or do you need some software with rip?
I bought this printer but when I print black using illustrator cc I have lines running through my images. Any comments on this?
How do we print multiple colors separation films on this printer , or how do we separate the colors of the art to print the films in this canon?
