I have literally been plotting to make a dress like this, combining your tie strap top and tea dress tutorials, so the fact you made it that much easier for me by actually making this tutorial is pure magic. ❤
@@TheEssentialsClub the tie strap top (the one from your blog, that you used the beautiful 🍋 fabric) is actually the first piece of clothing I made for myself and, really, how i caught the sewing bug, so thank you for your amazing work and, well, keep it up 🥰
I made this dress, love it! I have a small suggestion for those with a larger bust.. instead of using the half bust measurement for the front and back panel, measure the front bust and across the back separately, it will save you from having to make back darts or having excess fabric in the back! For example across the front of my bust is 29in but across my back is only 21in so my back panel needs to be a bit smaller than the front panel. Love essentials club tutorials!!! Thanks for the amazing content :)
heeyy i cut my fabric like that thanks for the tip! i was wondering did you multiply the front and back measurments separately for the tiers? (as in 29in × 1.5 and 21in × 1.5) or did you add the total and then times that by 3 [29in + 21in × (1.5+1.5)]
@@lailachandler9587 Fashion students seem to use 1/2 inch. Commercial patterns seem to use 5/8 inch. If I am not sure if a pattern is going to fit, I use 1 inch. I hope this is helpful. 🙂 Good luck. 👍💝
I followed this tutorial but made a top instead of a dress. Had to make some adjustments though because I wanted a normal length top but didnt account for the fact that my hips are wider than my chest 😅 so had to cut the top short and then I added a frilly layer to make a peplum top and its super cute!
I just finished making my own variation of this dress as my first sewing project. This tutorial was so helpful, thank you! Looking forward to new tutorials ! xx
im wearing this dress right now so... It was my first dress sewing project and i really enjoyed it! I did make a few changes. i added 2 darts front and back because im quite busty. darts are really easy to make. i also went snug tight on the bust area and theres no problem wearing it since i wear it from the top...these are two easy changes to make if you have a bit of trouble with the fit. Thank you so much for this easy tutorial
I still have to buy a sewing machine bcoz ive jst been really interested in sewing..i want to do someth useful so tht im not glued to my phone all day ..anyway...ur voice is so calming and ur instructions so clear..i love it...thank u so much for this video

Hi novice here but wondering how much fabric should I buy for making this dress at the store? Thank you, really looking forward to making this as my first sewing project ever. Your instructions and tutorial seem so well done :)
I made the previous gathered dress and it turned out so beautifully and I’m planning on making this too , but I want to know how you finish the gathered part from the inside?? I made hot mess last time
So glad to hear you enjoyed the previous tutorial!! I just go around and trim back the edges so they're about a half to a quarter inch from the sewing line across all seams then zig-zag stitch across the edges (or overlock if you have a machine) to help keep it neat and prevent it from fraying :)
I tried to handsew this dress took me a day and it still wouldn't tourn out right, I am 5'2 (usually size 12) and I made the 14 inch lenghts for the 3 layers and around 28.5 inches width but it turned out too tight around my butt and waist, until the part where it was a crop top it was fine it had the same vibes like in the video, but somwhere there i think i messed up😅 maybe pulled the first Layer together too much? Any tips to save the dress? Because i have a lovely pattern and I would hate it to go waste like that 😅 should i resaw the top and the first Layer?
The third panel of the bottom part of the dress looks shorter than the others - how did you calculate/measure that? Or was that because you ran out of fabric?
Me, too!!!! I am cracking my mind the whole day as a beginner ...and wow..glad to find your video...one that explains clearly ..exactly what I want.. can't wait to do this dress..Thanks 🙌
@@niccolecapurroarroyo Hi..I am not sure exactly what fabric she was using ...but I think cotton or close to cotton kind should be good.. Last night i was trying to find a DIY tiered dress video on youtube and was wishing that you had created a video as I find your tutorials so so helpful and straightfoward! And then I wake up to see you have released exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!!
Hi, I absolutely love this tutorial and I will definitely make this dress as soon as I finish my exams. But I have a question. How many yards of fabric did you need?
I LOVE your videos but you look so much like my old roommate who stole everything I owned and sold it all for drugs 😭 I power through the PTSD for your content!!
I don't even intend on making this dress but the thumbnail and the aesthetic is so immaculate and the transitions and your narration is so good I watched all of it 🙏
Is there a way to make this but with sleeves? Cuz if anyone reading this is like me and has a big chest, it’s gonna be hard to hide bra straps with the straps and strapless bras don’t really provide support
Hi! What sewing machine would you recommend to buy that’s user friendly but can also be at an advanced level having multiple types of stitches and options?
Made this this morning out of linen and I never want to take it off!! Perfect for Perth summer. Instructions were so super easy to follow, I made it into a midi.
I just stumbled across your video. Thank you so much. Really appreciated how detailed and step by step you made it - the perfect pace and amount of info... i esp appreciated where you paused to break down the steps with the added visuals. Great work - thank YOU! Looking forward to making the dress.
Omg I was looking for tutorials for a tiered dress for beginners but they were all too advanced for me 🫣. This pops up randomly a day later 🥲. You explain steps so well. Was wondering if you knew the name of a neckline? The neckline is straight across like this and has a tiny vertical slit in the middle. If you were to snip 2 inches vertically down this dress in the middle, it would look like that. I was searching for dresses in that style for evening wear.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I bought some linen from spotlight the other day not knowing what to make out of it and you have just dropped this tutorial at the perfect time 👏🏼🙌🏻
Is there a way to add pockets to this dress somehow? The fabric I am using needs to be doubled up anyway because I think it might be a little bit see through as a single layer of material. If anyone has any ideas on how to add pockets that would be amazing. Thanks!
I love this! I have tried to make it but I can't get past the top because of the armpit gaping. How could I fix this? I tried @krismorrell method of measuring the bust and the back but it still had huge gaping.
New sewer here, I have to hand sew atm but I was wondering if this is doable just with hand sewing? I know it would take me a lot longer. Also, the chest measurement, is that the same as measuring a bust for a bra size?
I tried to make this and failed. I had way too much fabric under the armhole and way too much room up front. Some suggested to add bust darts, but I have no clue how to add these. I am not sure if this pattern is good for us busty gals.
Hi! I was just wondering how much material did you use? I’d love to make this dress but I’m not sure how much fabric should I order, so if You’d let me know that would be awesome
