Have you ever been saved buying a bad boat with a compression test? Tell us the story!

Nice video. I think what a compression test can catch, even if the boat seems to be running well, is one cylinder that's just starting to get lower compression. I haven't done tests on boats, but have on cars, and cars can run pretty well while still having one cylinder starting to show signs of lower (but not terrible) compression.

The anser is YES...But you should also have a sea trial....I JUST had a compression test done on a Carver 396 with Volvo penta 8.1s and the port engine no 4 cylinder came back at 140. This is low for that engine...Now, that alone was just a concern...BUT the other concern was the fact that there were different spark plugs in the engine....That to me indicates that cylinders may have been misfiring or fouling the plugs.....

Buying a used boat here. If I take the boat on the lake to test and it runs strong... would I still need a compression test with only 50 hours on engine?
    Trying to save $250-$300.
