Dji has superb true to life color tones. I absolutely hate GoPro color. It’s always hard to combine GoPro footage with my drone and Sony AIV

Thank you, good review, but there is one big inconsistency with the quality of the shooted image in this review. Your Gopro shots are with a resolution of 5.3K, compared to Action 4. The 5.3K image quality is different to 4K by Gopro. So it would be worth comparing the image with Gopro 4K vs Action 4. The Sharpness is much higher and the image look nearer to the action footage. I suggest to watch my comparisons for the differences. I personally prefer 5.3K image which Action 4 doesn't have - and this is the biggest advantage of the Gopro.
And as you mentioned, Gopro has a lot of setting options, which action doesn't have.
I prefer the Action 4 for video quality, reliability and ease of use
The Action 4 has HDR on all the time. I think a small EV boost will brighten it up to a satisfactory level. I've seen a few videos that shows HDR mode helps the night mode on the GoPro 12. The Action is still better, but it's a lot closer.
also if you shoot in 10bit, you can still recover those shadow dark area about 10-15% recovery
The Action 4 does NOT shoot in HDR or apply HDR techniques of any kind. What DJI says is this: "Videos recorded by Osmo Action 4 have a high dynamic range making an HDR mode unnecessary." ... basically what this means is "our sensor captures enough range in one shot we don't need to apply HDR techniques of capturing multiple ISO's and blending them together"... while it is likely true the sensor on the Action 4 does capture more dynamic range in a conventional video than a conventional video from the Hero 12... it is no substitute for HDR and it is disingenuous for DJI to claim it wouldn't offer their camera an improvement in image quality or for anyone to say "Action 4 has HDR on all the time" when it offers NO HDR at all.
@@canyonblue737-8 Yes, they baked the HDR into the video setting. It's not a separate mode anymore. It's very obvious when put head to head w/ the Action 3 in standard video mode. HDR tends to expose a bit darker.

I would just like to say that I did a test today of the Action 4 (EU) battery life and overheating at 25°C in my room, stationary, at 4k30, and it ran for 119 minutes until the battery ran out.
i receive my hero 12 1 week ago and i notice that u had a lot of option to choose what color or filter u want to use if you want to edit unlike to action 4
Excuse me. In which country did you first register your DJI OA4? I mean it depends if you're in Europe, because then you have lower temperature for overaheating moment. In the US it's higher

For years people have complained about the sound quality and the demand on it to be first thing good in a movie. Now, they are elated on the possibility of BT earbuds connection with GP12, whereas the sound quality drops significantly in such a case. So, how come???
Resolution and detail. I struggle with comparisons as when viewing @ 300% you are comparing different angles of view with OA4 being wider, so objects are further away.

The overheating is really controversial and it's really bad. The Action 4 that I bought here in Japan lasted over an hour at 4K 60fps in a room temp of 25℃ as I was recording a video of me repairing electronics. definitely you guys in the EU has a problem with DJI action 4 overheating and I think you all need to voice it out to DJI
Exceptional video, as always! You are so right regarding these two cameras, and it boils down to one small feature over another as to what one covets the most in making their videos. IMO, one really can't go wrong buying either the Action 4 or the GP12.

1. what is the video recording time I would get (like 1 hour or 2 hour or what exactly)?
2. I dont have Mac so if I transfer my 4k60fps hdr dolby vision video which is shot from iphone 13 to windows PC for editing to upload that to Social media, may I please know would the quality be degraded and what should I do that not to happen??

After two weeks of watching all kinds of UA-cam “over hearing test” I opted for a minty used hero 9 and for the life of me I can’t get it to over heat. Battery dies or card gets full but never shuts down due to over heating. That’s indoors with no airflow only ac on at 75 using max bit rate, 5k and 4k at 30 fps. Hasn’t overheated outside during mountain biking either.
So, I've had a GoPro since the 6th, and this week I bought the hero 12 at BestBuy, I put it to film in 5K, and in 20 minutes it heated up and turned off, really the GoPro has been a disappointment in recent years, the touch on the screen as Sometimes it doesn't respond, and now it overheats after 20 minutes on a 5k, I've already ordered my DJI osmo action 4 and I'm going to return this hero 12.
good choice, hero 12 is still exacly hero 11 (and hero 11 is hero 10 with only small change in sensor). action 4 is something new

in audio dji should get 2 points for you can use any usbc microphone. 13:30 it is not true, after overheat check temp every camera ! gopro i way hotter. fastcharging in dji is a big deal 15:30 everywhere is the same, you will get gopro discount ONLY when subscribtion renew !! so not 25$, but 25$+50$. so with this all mistakes dji cleary win...
hero 12 ! 2023, no fast charging and no touch front screen ?! pathetic milking of customers for what should be a simple update. of course, they removed GPS for free, which was one of the advantages of GoPro, so congratulations, the level of embarrassment is above Apple with their every new iPhones

you are missing out on so much stuff if you don't play around with the gopro labs firmware QR code possibilities, for example the EXPX=120 QR command allows you to limit the shutter speed to not go any slower than 1/120, different than just fixing the shutter speed at 1/120 at all time in the default settings, another one i like is the EXPS=1 QR command, it displays real time iso and shutter speed values on the LCD.
...and having Sound Pressure (dB) displayed on screen during video mode. Having a level display line on the screen in all modes. Setting 200Mbps bitrate capture to sdcard. Turning on video mode at a certain defined speed (GP11). Endless list. Love it!
The action 4 already displays shutter speed and iso in pro mode. I think it’s shown when selecting or in the app but I forget where but I’ve seen it before.

this is still an interference in the gopro system, which may cause more errors. They should have introduced this to GoPro a long time ago, where DJI can set many of these functions in the camera without additional installations, stupid QR codes, etc.

Great comparison, however slow motion gopro 12 should have gotten 2 points. It's better than action 4. That shouldn't be a tie. Pricing should be a tie since they cost exactly the same

Although I was just about getting the dji action 4 because is packed of cool features finally got the gp12.
I don’t like dji fov. Specially on de warp mode. I think is too wide and produce some distracting warping, specially noticeable when panning. Great channel and reviews. Keep it up!
I have two GP11 for travelling and capturing live music shows. I have not encoutered any overheating issues yet, but to be on the safe side I bought usb powered cooling fans to make air move around cameras in band stage enviroment. On loud stage fan noise is not an issue and I hardly ever use GP sound in those projects. Overall using these small sensor cameras with lesser quality optics have limitations, but small size, light weight and ease of use make them ideal for this use also.
What comes to getting them with me around the globe, there is no better, or at least easier, cameras. In good lighting conditions and right settings picture quality is good enough. What I have learned is that watching videos here in UA-cam about getting the right settings really makes a difference in video quality you get out of these.
As the result of the video shows, any of those cameras will do the job as action camera or travelling companion. I didn't have to break my bank to get mine, thanks to newer models.
If I was now buying my first action camera I would consider both brands.
This video didn’t show the full potential of the Action 4, I had to switch from GoPro to Action 4 because GP are just selling the same cameras with minor advances
