    "The" most articulate, knowledgeable car owner Leno has ever had on his show. The level of detail given is awesome.

      Alright take his snake out of your mouth, geez. This man is an absolute genius! The Congo will be producing their own hyper car any day now and I also made sure that my daughter marries one to prove I'm not the R word. Just take it down a notch Steve.

    Jay, you need to bring this guy back whenever you can. The chemistry between you is wonderful, and made this one of my all time favorites on this channel. Of course, the fact that this car is one of the most beautiful you've ever had on here doesn't hurt.

    See, this is what I really like about the Jay Leno garage. He's always showing the obscure (to us) and unique vehicles that I might not ever get the chance to see. Even though I might run into one at a car show, I don't get the history, or the time to really learn about them. This show is great...

      Or just Donald. He actually knows what he's talking about.
      Leno: "Those are obviously the stock wheels". Donald: "Uh, these are not the stock wheels".
      Leno regarding the hood scoop: "OK, so that's pulling air in rather than pulling hot air out of the engine" Huh? LMAO.
      Don't get me wrong, I enjoy and appreciate all the time, effort and money that goes into these free videos that Jay produces but he talks out of his ass half the time, just to hear himself speak. Jay needs to listen to his guests, rather than pretend to be an authority on everything.

    My dad has one of these, a 1968 series 1 Fulvia Zagato in dark blue, bought about 4 years ago in italy where it was last on the road in 1986 (the year I was born) and until then resided in a barn with other rare classics including, strangely, a 50's ford thunderbird.
    The car was then taken home to England where it was completely restored by my dad and a top Lancia specialist at vast expense with the kind of results that justified the work and cost.
    While in the UK it was one of only 7 registered on the road in the country, the car now lives with my dad in southern france to where he retired, leaving the pair of them free for high speed blasts through the french country lanes to the old boulangerie for a baguette!
    Lucky bugger...

    Finally a comment section (in car's video) where i don't see Muscle/JDM/Euro fanboys shouting at each other angrily how that car would totally dust that one and bla bla bla.
    Sorry kids cars aren't all about numbers and winning drag races or getting the best time at the Ring. Sure there is that part too, but that's just scratching the surface.
    True car enthusiasts will get what i mean. Beatiful car as always on this channel!

    I have also fallen in love with this car, and this is the best and only video of such a car. I really do want one, like right now. It wouldn't be a logical decision but this little Lancia Fulvia is becomes attractive to me the more I look at it and listen to that glorious V4. All these videos of old cars on Leno's Garage and Petrolicious channel are bringing me closer to boycotting all modern cars and just buying old, pure, mechanical cars in good restored condition.

    I passed over this video when it was released because I wasnt familiar with the brand, and the thumbnail picture didnt float my boat, but now that Ive watched it and see the car from different angles, my god that thing is sexy! The more I look at it the better it gets. But what i like as much as the cars are the stories that acompany them. Without the stories theyre just transportation devices IMO.

      I was pretty much the same way. At first, it wasn't a car that I *had* to see the video of, but I decided to finally watch it. Glad I did. The more I watched, the more I liked the car. Beautiful style, quite elegant for a small car. Yes, not all cars need to accelerate to 60 in 3 seconds. I'd love some time behind the wheel of this along a nice two-lane twisty...

    I had a Series 2 Fulvia 1.3 nearly 40 years ago. I paid 50 pounds to a neighbour for it, and started fixing it up, but it was my second car and I didn't then have the time and money to do it justice. One of the nicest little coupes to come out of Italy, I always thought it looked better than the Alfas. One of the things I should never have parted with, now I look back.

    I have a 1972 fulvia zagato undergoing restoration. This car had all disc brakes, 5 speed trans and 100 bhp from a 1.3 litre v4 chain driven ohc engine in the sixties. Hardly anything else from that era comes close. You need to see the quality of the mechanical components to realise this car is the automotive equivalent of a Swiss watch.

      Thanks a lot. It's going to be a tough job but it's worth it. Magnificent cars, superb performance but unfortunately rust is their Achilles' tendon. Due to constant strikes during production time, the bodies were left outdoors and weren't protected. Checkout Wheeler Dealers here in UA-cam. They have an episode on the Alfasud. Well I hope that once I finish my project, Jay invites me to his show. I love how he manages to inject humor to the show in a very classy way. No tasteless jokes and foul language whatsoever. Cuore sportivo!

    Thank you Jay, growing up in Italy this was one of my favorite cars. Too bad they are so rare nowadays. Although, if you want to do FWD Lancia's the little HF rally car, red with flat black hood is really my absolute dream car. If only Lancia made it RWD that would have been the perfect car for me, but I'll take the FWD anyway.
    Thank you to the gentleman that let you drive it: Donald, I hope one day I'll be able to meet you just so I can sit in this car and relive my younger years. Thank you.

    Great looking example of the Fulvia Sport Zagato. I had a Fulvia Coupe 1.3S, 1974 model. Bought it in 76 for about 1,700 GBP and so far it is still my favorite car. Fun to drive, reasonably reliable and easy to fix. Unfortunately, I sold it in 79, when I moved to the USA :(

    So good to hear two real enthusiasts talking about a really lovely little car, which was so advanced for it's time. Must confess, I'm a little biased, as I had a 1974 Fulvia coupe, which was a joy to drive - great brakes, great handling and a lovely, "raspy" exhaust note. Even after all these years...I still miss it !! Great video, thank you.

    What a beautifully sculpted and engineered car! This brought back memories of my father who owned a Lancia in the early 60's. I cannot remember the model he had but it was a really cool and unique car. After watching this I'm kicking myself for not quizzing him more about his Lancia when he was alive. Thanks Jay for posting this. Your channel is awesome and Donald Osborne is a treasure!

    I love that thing, and i miss Donald on what's my car worth.
    You can just hear the quality inside and out...
    Solid.
    Having said that. I remember reading a car comparison from 72' i think that had several imported sport coupes including a Lancia Beta, Mazda Cosmos, and others and the Lancia literally disintegrated during the test.
    Shift linkage ( multiple times), electrical issues, starting issues, and finally bent several pushrods even though it wasn't over revved. They still loved it... but..........
    They picked the Cosmos becuase it didn't break and it was affordable.

    I did my apprenticeship in a Lancia, Fiat and Alfa Romeo specialist.
    They generally had something special about them, you can understand why people fell in love with Alfa Romeos for example, but the rust still gives me nightmares to this day - saw several that literally collapsed due to rust.

    • @mrman17
      @mrman17 10 років тому +1

      Hondas are reliable and "nice", but apart from a couple of them... zzZZZzzzzZZZzzz
      At least the Italian car makers seem to have their act together (or a bit more together) these days with rust, but the cars that were around back in the late 80s...

      @TheTimbucktwo 10 років тому

      I had a 70'and a 76' Bronco and they were both rust bucket's just like most fords from that era.The sheet metal came from Canada and was crap.

    • @titanus49
      @titanus49 10 років тому +1

      yes because the Italian car makers (Fiat, Alfa Romeo ) in the late sixties and seventies,got into bed with the Russian steel makers,selling them low grade steel for the car industry. This was due to the rampant,ove militant unionised car industry in Italy,heavily communist influenced,and to keep the peace in the factory floor, they appeased the unions ( sindacati ),by making concessions via the supply of Russian steel to Fiat ,Alfa Romeo,and later Lancia. They knew the cars would virtually dissolve into a pile of rust,but hey who cares, they look good when new.

    • @mrman17
      @mrman17 10 років тому +1

      ***** You seem to have taken personal insult from my comments (it is difficult to judge as your English is a little disjointed). I am merely stating a fact that Italian cars from the late 60s and 70s/80s did suffer with rust problems (possibly due to poor quality steel as titanus49 stated above). Granted, more or less all cars from that era had poor rust proofing and eventually suffer with rust issues, but due to the Series 1 Lancia Beta's problems with rust (mainly around the front subframe, the series 2 was improved), Lancia gained bad name, even though they were buying back 5 year old cars and/or offering replacement deals. They eventually ended up pulling out of the UK completely because of it.
      You said "your Mustang and Falcon v8s" - I'm not American, I'm in the UK. I know a small and light sports car can be "better" than a "big bruiser".
      I worked on Lancias, Fiats and Alfas for the best part of 3 years from around 1988, including the Lancia Beta (perhaps the worst hit of the Lancias for rust), Gamma, Delta, Fulvia and so on. Fiat X19, Alfasuds amongst others. I've seen what can happen first hand - it's scary when you jack up the front of a car only to see it literally collapse, and the bonnet end half way up the windscreen.
      Like I alluded to earlier, Italian cars (on the whole, there are a few exceptions) come into their own when being driven and it's often said you're not a true "petrol head" unless you've owned an Alfa, but like most other cars, they do come with their own set of problems.

      ***** Let's face it, now the Lancia brand exists only in Italy, Fiat destroyed this glorious brand and we hope it does not happen the same with Alfa Romeo. Fiat group in the 90s produced two million cars in Italy, it now produces 400 thousand, only one of 11 produced by the group. I'm Italian and see the Alfa Romeo Arese Plant in a state of disrepair makes me sick!
