Toronto is an awesome city to visit AND It will certainly dispel your notion of ALL of Canada is nothing but a wasteland of snow and that all Canadians live amongst the polar bears. Actually, Toronto has very hot summers that rival Chicago and New York, no problem. Toronto is a beautiful, innovative, very multicultural city - Toronto overtook Chicago the past year I believe and is the 4th largest city in North America. And this is VERY true: Toronto (more accurately, Canada) has not only the most stable banking system on the planet but is also a great city to visit and wander through so many neighbourhoods and Districts, it makes your mind spin. I would have to throw in all of this and that is, in keeping with the spirit of comparison between these 4-5 largest cities, Toronto is by far the cleanest and most safe, with statistics to back it up. A visit to Toronto is so worth it, whether nightlife is your thing or on the flip side, museums and art galleries, Toronto to me, seems to be a city that works so well.

How is it anything like NYC? I've lived in both and I wouldn't compare the two in any way, save the liberal attitudes, gay-friendliness and multiculturalism. New York's architecture is massively different, and it came of age in the 1800s and early 1900s whereas Toronto came of age in the 1960s. This means the two are very different atmosphere-wise. Toronto is what it is. It's Toronto. And it's awesome.

Canada is great! If you want the big city life, live in Toronto, but if you want a pool and a huge yard, live somewhere like Waterloo. I grew up there and anyone who is middle class can live in a three-bedroom home with a beautiful lot. At the same time, I prefer living in the dense city so I live in Toronto now. Clean, safe, beautiful city. I am living in London UK for a few months though and London is nice too :)

Yeah, I hear ya Kevinconners554. When I lived out there in Vangroovy; mortgage for a lovely place (and it was) was through the roof. Transit is good during daylight hours. Traffic when you live outside of Vancouver, is horrendous. To deny this is to adopt the la-la-la attitude. Don't get me wrong, Vancouver and its environs are beautiful: IF you have time to enjoy them. I heard it from the locals about the amenities; they too had ONCE enjoyed, came at a price. Stress exists there.

@abar1204 I am not from here. But, this city gave me a job, an education I could not get at home; an education into diversity; embrace people from all over. It was intimidating at first. I am glad I came here. Every large city in Canada is different than the other. Uniqueness to suit ones' desires; good for some here in Toronto; good for some who migrate to Montreal; good for some who migrate to Vancouver. There are many great cities here in Canada.

I don't understand why people are getting all mad at Toronto. My father told me something when I was young and he told it again to me recently "everyone in Canada hates Toronto, until they come here." Now, I can almost guarantee that he's right and this video proves it. People in Toronto are considerate and welcoming and are willing to give a helping hand to a stranger, it's very rare you will come across someone who will ruin your day.

There is so much to do in Toronto, Vancouver is a place to go for retirement but to live life and experience life to it's fullest Toronto is the place to go. Fyi Toronto provides pretty much everything you've described above except for the sea part. Downside of Vancouver, too much cloudy and rainy weather all year long, you don't experience much snow, something a big part of "Canadian culture" and there is an issue with drugs and gangs which many people don't know much about.

Both are very different and unique and don't deserve a "which is better" comparison. The GTA is about 3 times bigger (population) than Vancouver and offers more of everything. Vancouver is a naturally beautiful place. Lots of Toronto haters in rest of Canada. Toronto means 'meeting place', meaning you can access different parts of Ontario easily, and Ontario is bigger than France and Texas (albeit colder).

I know both cities like the back of my hand and they couldn't be anymore different from each other. Chicago is more gangsta and Toronto is more clean. Chicago is the most segregated city on the continent whereas Toronto is the most multiculturaled. Chicago had 557 murders in 2012, Toronto had just 63. They are nothing alike!
