- Last May I was in Lima, Peru, where I met some of the amazing artists of the Shipibo-konibo tribe. I learned how their spiritual practices, painting, and singing transmit their profound knowledge of the Amazon across generations. When they first moved to the city, they settled together in Cantagallo, a densely packed neighborhood in the heart of the capital. Like so many, the Cantagallo community is facing tremendous challenges today. This is for them, and for the many millions who don’t have the luxury of distance.

Aprendí sobre sus prácticas espirituales, su pintura, su arte y su música que transmite conocimiento profundo y ancestral de la Amazonía. Cuando ellos se mudaron inicialmente a Lima, se establecieron en Cantagallo, un área pequeña muy cercana al corazón de la capital. Como muchas otras comunidades en el mundo, Cantagallo está enfrentando tremendos desafíos. Esto es para ellos, y para los muchos millones que no tienen el lujo de la distancia que los protege. This video was originally released on May 20, 2020, as part of Yo-Yo Ma’s #SongsOfComfort project, which was launched at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide comfort in a time of anxiety and fear. The project inspired thousands of people around the world to upload their own songs of comfort in the months that followed.

Only HE can make a grand cello truly sing, beyond classical & folk, but any sound. Incredible. And he shares it FREELY TO ALL. More great artists or their estates should release FREE sampling FOR ALL to enjoy. Music brings humanity together instead of division, & TODAY we have global problems requiring unity. So few birds songs remain since we consume their habitats. Sadly, now we need a master musician to play extinct birds songs we remember during the last decade.
How do you do that? Are you sure you are human 🥰. Thank you so very much for doing this for us. It really matters and changes the vibration of the Universe in a magical way.
Amazing! I didn't know one could capture birds so accurately in a cello. Wonderfully done maestro! I'm brought back to the serene beach sands of Florida as I listened to this.

Spending this Sunday with the Song of the Birds is emotional, I listen to them every morning, from my balcony, Thank you, for imitating your joy of life and Freedom! I love hearing it!
I’m not trolling or being mean but I have to remark because I see and hear often people describing a situation as “emotional” Now we all know that situations don’t have emotions. People do and the speaker is projecting their own emotion outward onto the situation to avoid owning it. I would like to see you, in order to increase your emotional literacy and articulation, attempt to name the emotion that you were feeling. A clue that you are failing is when you say “I felt LIKE.....”. That phrase will never be followed by an emotion word. Google a list of emotions to help you. Most of America is emotionally illiterate and therefor fail completely at articulating their emotions which leads to no one understanding the other.
