For all of Floyd's success, boxing had already stopped receiving the type of coverage enjoyed in Tyson's era. Also, as you said Floyd wasn't necessarily compelling or charismatic, he was the villain, and most people went to see his fight in hopes of seeing him lose. Lastly, Floyd's greatest legacy is the sorry stat of boxing we have now, where every boxer attempts to protect the undefeated title at all costs. Under Mayweather promotions Tank has thrived by this blueprint. Mayweather will always be acknowledged as an atg, but I highly doubt he'll be respected as one.
