I am sorry for the bad audio quality. I filmed this with my phone. I did another video that has much better audio and talks about same stuff and the link is in the description.
To summarize, 50cc scooters will be cheaper to buy, cheaper to run, do not need a motorcycle licence and great for intown use, 150cc scoots are faster, give you more freedom and are just as practical but are more expensive, may be heavier and do require a licence in US at least.

50 cc and 150 are almost the same price here in europa, the 150cc scoorter use less gasoline, and inshurens is cheaper for motorscooter in the netherlands,

@@florisnr11 In Europe 150cc are almost absent: in most countries it is possible to drive up to 125cc on a regular car driving license (with some small exceptions), so I can observe that there are model of scooters with 50cc (actually 49cc), 125cc and 300+cc.
And there is a big price gap between 50cc and 125cc (usually something like 30%) and quite low (below 10%) between 125cc and 300cc.

    Upsides of a 50cc:
    1.Better fuel efficiency
    2.Cost effective maintenance
    3.Better handling.
4.Good to start off for a novice.
    Upsides of a 150cc:
    1.Better high speed stability.
    2.Increased storage space.
    3.Longer engine life.
The bottom line is both are two different machines made for two different purposes, however on of the parameters in which the 50cc has an upper hand is the low end acceleration,it tends to hit the revving limiter quickly compared to the 150cc,but once it reaches the mid end the 150cc plays a wider role,so I suspect that 50cc is better for overtaking and street commuting,
thanks for making the informative video.

Actually wrong. 50cc is crap. Breaks way easier, constantly paying for maintenance, and worst part is if you break down, you can only depend on yourself. And if you don't know Jack about scooters and that thing breaks down on you away from home because parts are crappy, you're outta luck. Got one of my own and have spent a couple thousand just for upgrades and better parts because they original stocks are garbage on these things. I should've went 150cc because they not only last longer but aren't as crappy of quality as the 50cc bikes. I upgraded my 50cc to where it's more dependable than most but it's also a lot of racing upgrades too. I get it to 50mph flat ground no issues and haven't even cranked up the gear ratio. Which upping the gear ratio is next on my list after I upgrade my CDI and stator and the rest of the ignition system. I've already upgraded to a racing trans.

50cc scooters in general are WAAYY underpowered and will definitely get you run over even on roads with the 45 mph speed limit. I can't understand why 50cc scooters are even still being manufactured. The top speeds of most of the 50cc scooters are about 30 mph or so and most people drive 50 in a 40. People may have driven slower in the 1980s and the 1990s because the speed limits were slower back then but people drive a lot faster now than they did then. The only place safe enough to drive a 50 cc scooter is on back roads and residential areas away from the main roads.

One of the biggest things to remember is a 50 cc or less scooter does not require a motorcycle license drive. Anything above 50 cc does. Not sure if this is the same in all states, but most of them.

The only thing about the 50cc for me is the hills while on the road that could be a problem in traffic. Depends though if it tops out around 40 anyway that’s not bad loss on the scooters end and for most of my commute including short distance to work it would actually be perfect for that. I might try and go with a 4-stroke if I could though and also I have to look into at what point I need a motorcycle license and what I can just get on and ride with a regular drivers license like lots say I went with a 125cc would that require a motorcycle license or ami I good because that margin seems like the good area for a little of both ends.

Hey I have never wrote any type of scooter before and looking for my first vehicle to be a scooter I’m in roads that are usually above 45 and I also need to get on the highway what cc would be perfect for me (keep in mind this would be my first scooter)

    • @nemanjatosovic
      @nemanjatosovic  4 роки тому +3

Well, there is a few things to consider. Do you know how to ride? Do you need a licence where you live? How often will you be on a freeway?
If you can ride and want something that isn't too big, 150cc scooters will do 55-75mph. Keep in mind that I would not recommend a 150cc scooter to be driven on major highways although some can do 65mph and more.
      A few good choices:
      Yamaha SMAX 155cc - 72mph
      Honda PCX 150cc - 70mph
      Kymco Super 8 (like mine) 149cc - 62mph
      Genuine Hooligan 169cc - 65mph
      Genuine Buddy 169cc - 65mph
      Lance Cabo 169cc - 65mph
Price range - $2,500-3,500 new, some can be found used for 1,500-2,000 which is a good price.
All of these are great choices. These are proven brands that will last a very long time. There are other Chinese scooters but I would not recommend them.
My favorites are: Super 8, Hooligan and SMAX.
Lance is made by SYM who have made scooters for 60 yaers, Genuine is made by PGO a brand that made engines or Piaggio. They are considered top of the class. Kymco is another bike manufacturer that has made bikes for a long time, in fact they made engines for BMW and are very popular in Europe and I don't need to say anything about Yamaha and Honda.
All of these are pretty small, Genuine Buddy is the smallest and probably easiest to ride while SMAX is the biggest but not too big.
However, if you want something to take on the highway frequently, 200cc+ would be ideal. They can range in sizes from some being pretty small and easy to handle, to some being kind of large.
      Good choices:
      Kymco XTOWN 276cc - 80+mph
      Yamaha XMAX 292cc - 90mph+
      Vespa GTS 300 278cc - 75mph+
      SYM Citycom 278cc - 82mph
There are others as well, these are ones I know. All brands will have older models too that are no longer produced or sold. I know that Kymco made a model called XCITING which was very popular and a great bike.
      Hope this helps.

    • @nemanjatosovic
      @nemanjatosovic  3 роки тому +2

Personally, I like how the liberty looks much better, it’s sleeker than the Yamaha, it has that Italian styling. On the other hand, I’m am certain the Smax will get you better mpg, will be more reliable and it’s faster too probably by 10-15 mph on the top end. It’s physically bigger too so it feels more substantial.
That said, I think the smax is over 500 dollars more, it’s up to you. I’m sure you’ll like both, see what your budget is and what your needs are. If money is no issue usually, more money means better bike but that doesn’t mean the liberty is t great, it is an awesome stylish bike for in town use but the smax might give you a bit more freedom. I think their little 155 can go over 70mph vs 55-60 on the Piaggio

If so, first figure out what your budget is. As with anything, the more you spend the more you get. You’ll be surprised, but, generally, a quality 50cc will run your between 2-3 thousand.
Generally, anything under 1500 is Chinese, they’re ok but don’t last.
For around $2,000-2,200 you can find some really awesome 50cc scooters that will last.
One of the favorites amongst girls is , Genuine Buddy 50.
Genuine is a company that imports scooters from Taiwan and China but the Buddy is made in Taiwan and is a quality scooter. It’ll do about 40 mph and is reliable as heck, very popular too.
They are around 2000 new but you can find them used for a few hindered dollars less. This will however depend on your geographic area.
Genuine also sells the Roughhouse 50, another scooter made in Taiwan by a famous company called PGO. Pretty much as as the Buddy but more rugged in styling. They are also right around 2000. That’s the black one in my video. Used, depending on age, but between 1000-1700.
Another company that imports scooters is Lance. They have three great models, Cali Classic 50, Havana Classic 50 and Cabo 50. They are pretty much the same and are made by SYM a well known scooter maker. They only differ in styling. They are also close to that $2000 mark but might be a little cheaper.
Kymco is a company that is also from Taiwan and they are one of the Big 5 companies in the scooter world. Right up there with Yamaha and Honda in markets outside the US but are not as know here, still they have some awesome scoots for sale. ps the red scooter in the video is a Kymco super 8 150.
Currrently they sell the Kymco Agility 50 for $1850. This is a famous scooter and is sold around the world. Many places in Europe use it as a pizza delivery vehicle. It’s probably the best bang for your dollar. Kymco sells the super 8 50 as well. They are a bit bigger and are around 2000 as well.
Now, for a little more money, you can get a premium brand like a Honda or a Piaggio.
Honda sells a Metropolitan 50. It’s a famous scooter they have made for years, it’s $2500 and a little small for my liking but very popular and super reliable being a Honda.
They also sell the Ruckus this is a Barr bone scooter very popular amongst the guys that like to modify their bikes. It’s pretty rugged and kinda pricey at 2800 but it also holds its value very well.
Piaggio which is a patent company to Vespa sells the Liberty 50 for 2400. This is a great scooter that is ultra famous in Europe.
So to wrap this up, Genuine and Lance import scooters from Taiwan but they are very highly quality made by well know brands and best they offer are, Buddy 50, Roughhouse 50 by Genuine and Cali and Havana Classic and Cabo by Lance.
Kymco is a global brand not super known here but very reliable. They have the Agility and Super 8. They also have the Kymco Like but I believe they spotted selling new models so you’ll be looking at an older model.
Honda sells the ruckus and the Metropolitan and Piaggio sells the Liberty 50.
All of these are between 1800-2800 with most being around 2200.
You can also get something premium like a Vespa but they are 4,000 at least.
As far as your commute, 50 cc scooters are best in roads where the speed limit is 35 or less. So if you plan on using it in town on such streets you can ride it as much as you’d like. I’ve taken mine on a 150 Mile trip. It took forever but the scooter had no issues.
      That said, riding them
On roads where speed is over 35 is tricky as you’ll be slower than anyone which can be dangerous.
      Hope this helps!

    • @nemanjatosovic
      @nemanjatosovic  3 роки тому +1

Technically, for anything under 50cc you need a regular car license for anything over 50cc you need a motorcycle license.
In IL you have 2 types of motorcycle licenses one for bikes between 50 and 150 cc and one for bikes over 150 cc.
From what I can tell, the test is the same, so it’s pointless getting the one for bikes between 50-150 ccs.
Only issue is you need a bike to pass a test but that can be overcome as many community colleges have free training and will give you a license if you attend the three training sessions which are usually held on Friday, Sat and Sunday.
They even have guys who have bikes come out and teach you.
So, in short, for a 50cc just a car license, for anything above a motorcycle license.

Thanks for the awesome review! I was looking into 50cc scooters as a first bike. Upon doing lots of research it seems as though the slowness of them could be more dangerous due to inability to accelerate with regular traffic flow. I decided to get a yamaha BWS 125 to start. Anywhere I will ride the speed limit will not exceed 60km/h but I will likely need to slightly exceed that to keep with normal traffic flow. Does this seem like a good option in scooters?

If you are in US, any major city will have a Genuine dealer. I don’t believe they are sold under the Genuine name anywhere else. The equivalent in other countries would be a PGO.

Hello. At 4:40 of your video as you wait to make your right hand turn, there is a truck approaching the intersection. You completed your right hand as the truck entered the intersection. The story I’m telling myself is that I would wait until the truck passes before I make my turn. When I’m in the position of the truck driver and someone makes their right hand turn just as I’m entering or going through the intersection, I wonder why they would do that instead of waiting one second for me to pass by them. That would keep us both safe.

You said the top speed was 40 to 42 literally you can see your top in that thing out at 50 on the genuine. Is your speedometer broken or is that my imagination

The speedometers on pretty much all motorcycles are about 10% optimistic, every bike indicates a much faster speed than what the actual speed is.
In the RH’s case, it’s Speedo is about 3-5 miles off for speeds up to 35 mph after which it becomes even more inaccurate.
      50 indicated is about 40-43.

Never buy anything under 150cc unless your state allows you to ride a 50cc without registration fees
