There's some great comments here from some knowledgeable players that describe further and more advanced techniques for establishing a possession game. Far more detailed than I could do for this video so check them out 👍
14:40 The reason higher tempo gives you more possession is because possession is calculated with passes completed. With a lower tempo the players sit on the ball more to pick out passes which leads to less passes overall. With a higher tempo your players spend less time on the ball looking to create quick passes. This is also why "run at defense" and "pass into space" gives lower possession. It's not just because you lose the ball more. It's because instead of having 10 passes to break through the midfield you're looking to do it with one killer pass/run. Some tips if you try this again: - Get players with the player trait "Plays Short Simple Passes", "Refrains Form Taking Long Shots", "Looks For Pass Rather Than Attempting To Score", and "Plays No Through Balls". - Avoid player traits like "Tries Killer Balls", "Shoots From Distance", "Tries First Time Shots", "Tries Long Range Passes", and any of the "Runs With Ball" traits as all of these will lower your possession by a decent amount. - Add "Work Ball Into Box" as this will tell players to look for a better (another :P) pass before trying to shoot. - Add "Regroup" in transition so you don't immediately lose the ball after winning it. - Play short corner kicks, so you can get more passes off - Have Central Defenders instead of Ball Playing Defenders, as BPDs have the "Take More Risks" trait. Any role with the "Takes More Risks" trait is going to try to take shortcuts through the defense instead of "tiki-taka"ing their way through. With these tips you can easily break the integer limit for passes in a season. (I know because I've done it many times)
I think that BPD is vital for tiki-taka system, because sometimes the less risky option is to clear the ball, which leads to losing possession, and Ball-Players with good pass prevent this kind of situations because they have "Take More Risks" hard-coded. I conceded so many goals in the old FMs because my centre backs just have been kicking the ball forward and launching counter-attacks, since then I'm using Ball-Players in my every tactic
A different take on possession. Lots of combinations tried from low to high tempo and back again, dribble less dribble more, there was a bit of everything. Thanks for watching
Hi stinger big fan of yours I have a suggestion for you do u think u could make the tactic of spain in 2010 of 4 defenders 6 midfielders and 0 attackers would rlly like to see it
I usually play 4-2-3-1 Gegenpressing then decided to change play style to possession and found that I'm doing much better. What's the best formation to use? Great video
just recently found your channel but I really like your Videos those different challenges in combination with rebuilds and the video style overall great work
3:30 The KKD has a relatively unique qthing to it regarding getting the playoffs. The season is split into four periods. These periods have their own table. When you finish first over a period, you automatically gain a spot in the play-offs. This is the reason why you already gained a play-offs spot, while being fifth throughout the season. Not a glitch, just something unique to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
Would love to watch a series from you where you take a team from the lower leagues (like hoofball) and every season you get like a new challenge with the end goal of winning the champions league. Anyways great video again, keep it up!
I've got a lower league team, Heathens, that are top of the possession league (but we're in the 7th tier still, so not big on technical ability yet) using 4-4-2-0 with wide midfielders and shadow strikers. The numbers you got are inspiring me to aim higher.
I’ve recently created a 4-3-3 dm with high press and a advanced forward only with the instruction of Roam from position for a new YTG save and it has been incredible. I was 17 games unbeaten in the league until today 1-0 lost 😅 and in UCL I’m unbeaten so far too so we’ll see 👀 The team has scored about 50 goals in the league and only conceded 6 goals
Great video! I dont think BPD help with possession. They are instructed to take more risks and be more direct, so in my experience they attempt too many long passes that lose possession. Central Defenders keep it simple and usually just pass it short to the midfield or full backs
Yes I knew about ball share. In honesty I didn't want to go into it as it leads to more questions and it confuses the hell out of newer players who are used to seeing possession being described as in real life
All you need is the team instructions. Player instructions were honestly minimal buddy. I haven't even put them in my patreon as they weren't that 'amazing' resultswise. More about the journey this one
@@StingerNeilDthank you kind reply. I love yours and DLP content. Both you and DLP should be featured in FMScout. Hard to find entertaining FM content like yours, cheers mate 🎉
Interesting that higher tempo gave your higher average possession. I'll have to try it. I usually go one notch towards shorter and slower and usually it works but lately the possession numbers have been going down even if the goals are still coming in.
I think I should tell you that Football Manager views possession differently-it's not about how long a player holds the ball, but rather how many passes are completed during the match. Low tempo can work.

@brightogiemudiapaul227 done something similar but maybe will revisit 👍
@StingerNeilD thanks for listening to my comment keep up the good work best fm UA-camr ❤❤

In the second division of Dutch football you have phases, if you win 1 of the 4 phases you get into the playoffs
Yes this defo confused me! Thank you
just recently found your channel but I really like your Videos those different challenges in combination with rebuilds and the video style overall great work
Awesome, thank you!
Sameeee
BEST FM channel currently, creative concepts and skilled player rather than some potato simulating his ''experiments'' and reading out the stats.
Thank you, we try.
I like those challenges a lot. Your squad building and tactics are top-notch.
Thank you
the editing is too clean 😮💨 i appreciate zooming in on the attributes, the numbers are so damn small 😂
appreciate you

4:56 just Miles letting you know that he's watching xD
I would love a full fm series with this style of editing, maybe a rtg or create a club could be fun? Anyways love seeing your channel grow!
Salguerios series I've done is similar. My editing style improved as I progressed in that series 👍
17:03 Never thought I'd see my country represented here 🇰🇪✊🏾
What a player
This is probably my favourite Stinger video so far. I like possession a lot.
It’s why I also enjoy watching Man City play
Glad you enjoyed!
You're the first person I hear saying that loves watching Man City. They're soooooooo boring to watch and I'm an Ajax fan, so I also love possession.

That setup sounds like it would do pretty well, I like it

Love this! Do you make any edits when playing away, or considerably stronger teams?
You definitely should, I didn't 😂 but I did this pretty quickly. Could definitely tone a few roles back away though
Great video!

Yes CBs would probably have been a better choice 👍
The closest we'll get to my favourite club PEC Zwolle being used for something like this, but I'll take it!
Noted for the future 👍
81% possession is crazy, I can't even remember hitting 70%.
If only that was the average 😂
What did your ball share look like in the games? Ball share is the time each team had the ball vs possession being passes completed.
Yes I knew about ball share. In honesty I didn't want to go into it as it leads to more questions and it confuses the hell out of newer players who are used to seeing possession being described as in real life
How good do you think you can get a team to do with "Low Defensive Line", "Press Less Often", "Stay On Feet", and "Drop Back More" all together?
Not great in honesty. Press is probably the key one. The others could work though
Looking forward to the direct counter video alla Ranieri Leicester 😁
The only man that can go from pulis to pep in 20 minutes 😂❤️
Warra comment haha bravo
need to see how this team push more in Europe.
Great content as always, was hoping you would share the tactics for console users. Nevertheless appreciate it mate 🎉

@isaacng315 I'd rather do my own thing boss 👍
Interesting that higher tempo gave your higher average possession.
I'll have to try it. I usually go one notch towards shorter and slower and usually it works but lately the possession numbers have been going down even if the goals are still coming in.
Could be team and level dependent in honesty

any player instructions on that final tactic? looks good
I think just run wide with ball on the fall backs. That's from memory though I'd need to check
4:55 ter stegen moment
4th and 65% is very good
fun video
Thank you!
Will there be a video on Peps new tactic soon?
Did one the other day on the one he used against Chelsea, he changes so often there will be another soon no doubt
I want to try this for my southampton save
Good to be early I guess
what would an arial domination tactic look like.
Similar to the hoofball video
All these players have Flair but no Ric Flair clips WOOOOO!
Underrated comment
How do you find so many good player on a free transfer? Can you do a scouting tutorial please ?
Honestly it's dead simple. Player search - contract expiring in 6 or 3 months. Either that or search unattached from July 1
@@StingerNeilD cheers
Team low tempo and short passes forever.
That's definitely one way to do it
Try least posession (less than 35-40%)
Hoofball did that for us
