Great surfer + amazing feathering overhead bells + right board selection = amazing flowing surfing. Unfortunately in the age of mass produced surfboards too often you see surfers struggling on the wrong equipment. How often do you see someone out at bells with heaps of rocker, not enough foam and struggling to lay down a nice turn on a big feathering face. I’ve been looking up and down the surf coast for a shaper or rack board that just has the basics (because bells will do the rest for you). A board with low rocker, decent volume and nice long straight edge rail. You can shorten up the board so it turn a bit easier. Volume to paddle into those big feathering wave faces with strong offshores blowing, low rocker for speed (bells isn’t a super curvy sucky wave so really dont need too much rocker), and straight edge rail to glide and generate speed off. The wave really does the rest. With plenty of speed the board sits up planes a lot more and gets looser to turn from the tail….
