The fallacy of tutorial hell and how I learn something new 📚

  • I hear "tutorial hell" thrown around quite a lot and wanted to share some thoughts on how tutorials still help me learn something new even several years into my career.
    I sometimes incorporate tutorials into learning something new, which can act as a launchpad into further experimentation versus getting locked in a vicious cycle of watching endless tutorials.

    The biggest issue with tutorials is how inconsistent they are.
    Some are written using different commands, others are using older versions of software.
    Triaging all the different tutorials to get to a Frankenstein's Monster of an answer is a huge roadblock for new developers that haven't built up the problem solving skills

      That's a good candidate for another UA-cam video :) I completely agree, especially on UA-cam, I'll find a number of tutorials that may have never been completed. From a beginner's perspective, it has to be an endless labyrinth.
