Awesome comparison vid. I was on the fence on the 20 and 21. Probably going with the G20 as I also have a S&W Shield in 40. It's great to know that I can use 40 caliber ammo in the G20. Gotta love the extra power too. Cheers
My only complaint with Glocks in general is having to fumble with their slide lock (takedown) levers. Only remedy is to shell out $13+ for extended ones.
@@jaytay7989 So did I until I took advantage of Glock's factory night sights install deal. Don't know if it's still offered though. Probably worth your time finding out.
also consider the fact that even though the 10mm will punch harder, itll also go right through very similar to a magnum round. the .45s recoil will be much more controllable, and since the bullet is known to be heavy and slower, itll likely dump almost all if not all of its energy inside the target rather than passing through. you get 2 rounds more with the 10mm i believe, compared to 13 rounds of the .45 glock. the .45s likely to be cheaper to train with, easier to find ammo, and becauase of that and the fact that it likely dump ALL of its energy into the target without over penetration, id consider it the best round for quick, powerful rounds that wont over penetrate. dont tell me that 9 is the same as .45 with modern bullet ballistics, because even though they may perform very similarly terminally, the fact of the matter is PHYSICS will always be in favor of the .45 since a bigger bullet wil always make a bigger hole, and if its heavier, it will crush bones with greater force. a good quality 230 jhp will undoubtedly do greater damage than a 147 grain 9mm jhp of proportional quality.
The only Glock that I have is a Glock 19, but I do have 1911’s in both .45 acp & 10mm. I like 10mm better than .45. For just a little more recoil you are getting a lot more stopping power.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with either one. If you aren't a reloader, then the 21 makes more sense. 45 Auto ammo can always be found in abundance and variety in practically all gun shops. If you are a reloader, there's no reason not to choose the 20. Factory 10mm ammo is out there, but it isn't nearly as common as 45. Either choice is excellent, it just boils down to how you acquire your ammo.
The nice thing about the Glock 20 is that you can also shoot .40S&W no modifications. You can also buy a Glock 21 slide and swap it. I'm also pretty sure that you can just swap barrels, you may or may not have to swap the recoil spring assembly. 10mm is a great round.
@@Fer1988arg Yes, I've done it. Same concept as .38spl out of a .357mag. .40S&W came from 10mm.... Kinda, sorta. I'm pretty sure that there was a round originally called the .40G&A back in the day. It pretty much fell off the market and then when the FBI tried their 10mm stint back in the day, I think Winchester & S&W came together and took 10mm bullets, sized the casings down and loaded them to fit into a 9mm frame. The funny thing was that year for SHOT Show rumor has it that Gaston Glock walked by the S&W booth and saw the "new .40S&W rounds," pocketed a few, flew back to Austria, reverse engineered the rounds, started making ".40S&W" ammo, I assume with shaved down 10mm casing, and made the Glock 22 before S&W had a gun chambered in their own round. But yes .40S&W will shoot out of a 10mm with no modifications, at least out of Glocks. .40S&W is basically like a 10mm Kurz (which is 10mm Short, which is also not a real thing), i.e. it's basially just a short 10mm, it fits in the same magazine and everything, it just has more space at the front of the magazine. I have yet to try this out of a 1911 or any other one of the new 10mm handguns that have come out as of lately. (as of Aug 2022)
@@imJohnnyCox You're absolutely right, the breach face is also too small and the .45ACP casing will not fit up against it. Yeah, I was definitely wrong about that. But you can swap out slides. I just bought a Glock 21 instead.
I wish my G20SF was a Gen 4, mine is a Gen 3. I prefer the Gen4 grips better, there is more texture on the sides. Plus the Gen 4 has the dual recoil spring, I assume that actually helps with recoil and longevity of the lifespan of the gun. Oh well, happy I have one.
All you gotta do is get a heavier recoil spring and talon grips, and then get a slr rifleworks +4 baseplate and have 19 rounds of 10mm and your good to go the gen don’t matter as long the SF model
Harder for follow up shots ? 😂😂 I’ve been daily carrying a Glock 20 10mm for the past 4 years and I can get follow up shots like a 9mm it feel like a baby to me now other guns feel way too small in my hand I’m way too comfortable with the 10mm
Nice comparison as always. Just so you know, I averaged up all of the calibers listed on ballistic101.com's website a couple of years ago, and the average muzzle energy for each caliber was as follows: .380 ACP- 217 ft. lbs., 38 Special- 260 ft. lbs., 9MM LUGER- 379 ft. lbs., .40 S&W- 447, .45 AUTO- 447, .45 GAP- 448, .357 SIG- 526 ft. lbs., 357 MAGNUM- 574 ft. lbs., 10mm- 650, and .44 Mag- 964. As you can see there is only a difference of 103 ft. lbs. on average between .45 ACP and 10mm, so the difference is not nearly as extreme as you stated. Yes, it's significant, but no, it is nowhere near double on average. However, you can certainly find 10mm rounds that are double some weak .45 ACP loads, but the averages tell a different story.
Thank you. Unfortunately, this is a case where averages can be misleading due to the nature of the various calibers. .45 acp, .40 S&W and some other calibers have a "narrow range" where the min and max are fairly close together (so an average works pretty good). One of the big limitations is that the caliber is designed to be slower, using lighter bullets and other tricks to make it faster tends to make it less accurate as the rifling is usually optimized for the 230gr bullet going slower. 10 mm has a fairly wide range, going from weak range ammo not even as potent as .40 S&W to some pretty serious loads. Underwood has a factory load that is 774 ft/lb and is still inside SAAMI. That is almost 75% more muzzle energy than .45 acp (as an example).
This is bad info. 10mm is loaded on such a broad spectrum that making an average is just silly. Hammer Striker already put it perfectly in his reply. Full house vs full house, 10mm is just shy of being twice as powerful as .45 ACP. .40 S&W (essentially 10mm Short) even outclasses .45 ACP in most situations. 45 ACP can be a fine round in it's own right, but it shouldn't even be in the same discussion as 10mm when discussing powerful handgun cartridges.
@@davidgolden1726 What are you even talking about? I have a 20 & a 21. That dosen't change the fact that 10mm is vastly more powerful than .45 ACP. It's not even close.
You need the Barrel, Spring and Magazine for the 10mm. You can go .45 to 10, but can't make a 10 into a .45. Similar to how you can convert a .40 into a 9, but can't convert the 9 into a .40. There is a slightly different extractor for between the 10 and .45, but it'll work(for the most part) and not 100% reliable if you don't switch them out also. There's a few videos out there, look up Glock 21 - .45ACP to 10mm Conversion.
45 acp is one of my favorite cartridges, it's designed for close up,50 yards or less, and two legged animals, that's what it was (45) designed for and that big bullet delivers it's energy on target, beyond that could still work out, but I like it for close encounters and home defensive situation (CQB) started shooting 38 special mod 60 chiefs spl at 5and6 years old and 357 magnum colt trooper at 6 and 1911s at 9 and larger at 10 , 357 and 45 are my favorites followed by 44 magnum and special, and 41 magnum and 327 and 32 magnums , they all have a certain niche and use, but a45 has power on target and a less likely chance of overpenatration at close ranges, have carried various calibers in the military and law enforcement, only rounds i have not tried, but maybe 🤔 one day is a 500 magnum and a 45 GAP , and very little of 460 magnum and 454 casull , although I like the 460 mag, and its ability to use the 454 casull and 45 long colt , a very versatile pistol like my 327 magnum that can also use 32 magnum and 32 long , and 32 short and in a pinch 32 acp, but some guns can double has a survival and a defensive purpose tool,if i was in Alaska, north or South Dakota, Montana, i would definitely have a 460 magnum,10 mm and a 357magnum and a 327 magnum , they would cover the defence and survival situation and some type of a 22 lr or 22 magnum and a 12 gauge shotgun, anything 9 mm and lower for back up, worked with some of my law enforcement colleagues that have used 9 mm in shooting scenarios and the perpetrator was not stopped with 6 or more rounds and was able too still be combative , untill they were stopped and dropped with a 12 gauge, back in the 80s But I like all caliber pistols and rifles they have a place if used for intended purposes and some emergency situations, until you get a better or fight your way for a better choice of fire arm, but it's better to have a good choice fire arm has a good choice like a 357 magnum or a 45 acp a 357 sig or a 40 s&w🤔💯a 45 Acp and a 12 gauge are excellent for home defense and a 9 mm for back up or secondary😅
Why not the XR? My thinking is 10mm your more likely to make longer more precise shots, maybe for hunting. I can understand HDs for the G21 but I think you did your self an injustice going with the HDs on the 20. I have sets of both on my different glocks and I notice a difference when trying to make those longer shots and the front sight on the HD makes it harder. My favorite site for my 9mms and 40s are the “bright and tough” model of trijicons.
The energy level stated with the 10mm is only for a specific brand/loading. Typical 10mm on the shelf isn’t too much hotter than typical 40 cal. They’re selling a myth.
Gotta say sights. Then you have a complete reliable piece. Replace those polymer sights, it’s inexpensive. Find a bright contrast front that suits you day and night.
Maybe if I live in the states I might choose 10 mm over .45 ACP but even then the availability of 10 mm there is still not very good. 10 mm is an expensive caliber to train no matter where you look at it. As I live in the other side of the world .45 ACP Glock 21 SF is the one to pick.
Unless you're shooting Underwood or Buffalo Bore ammo, you aren't getting the 10mm velocities that you mentioned. I have tested every major manufacturer on the market, and the average velocity for 180 gr. FMJ or JHP offerings average 1100 FPS MAX. So, unless you are loading your own and tested them, or shooting Buffalo Bore or Underwood ammo .... you aren't getting the velocities you mentioned. Hornady and Remington Ammo is the Worst ammo for misadvertising velocities.
All of our comparisons involving 10mm chrono is done with Underwood 180gr or 200gr. There are a few others that come close, but Underwood is the gold standard for 10mm (and several other calibers as well).
Actually I have the 21 Gen3 but the 29 Gen4 doesn't fit in my 21 holster. I looked it up and Glock actually lists the 29 as 1 mm Thicker! I didn't check the 20 though I assume that's the same as the 21 like you said. So I was like dang, more money on another holster

Yes, the .45 acp slide and 10mm slides are the same and use the same barrel blank. Be aware that the ejector is different due to the different case size, that is attached to the FCG in the lower.
@@HammerStriker: No Sir! They are not the same. The 21 has material removed from the inside front of the slide. That's why it is lighter. The breach face on a 20,29&40 are thinner (smaller caliber) than a 45acp. The 19 and 23. The 17 and 22 have the same differences in the slides until you go to gen5's where the gen5 23 is a little wider/heavier than gen1-4.

10 beats 45 imo. A longer casing means more pressure, and that means more than bullet thickness in the end given the similarity of thickness for these..again imo
Real True Men use both--One for the Left Hand and One for the Right Hand. The .45acp has a better kill history than the 10mm. Real True Men should be able to handle either as that recoil nonsense is for the weakies who can only use the puny 9mm. Thanks for showing Big Man Guns!!

.45 ACP, because a bigger hole matters more in a pistol round for most self defense scenarios. (Federal HST 230 grain .45 ACP +P) Plus, 950 FPS is plenty to go through a windshield and car door. Also, the .45 ACP Glock 21 will wear down slower due to it being a lower pressure cartridge.

The internal sides of the 17 and the 21 have more material removed than the 20 and 22 that is most of the difference in weight.
I’ve had both the 20 and I currently have a 21 I’m a huge fan of both even tho I grow tired of gloccs but still I love it

I agree, Glocks are boring but they are reliable.
Love my g21 😁😁
Awesome comparison vid. I was on the fence on the 20 and 21. Probably going with the G20 as I also have a S&W Shield in 40. It's great to know that I can use 40 caliber ammo in the G20. Gotta love the extra power too. Cheers
The G40 Gen4 10mm 6.02" barrel is a big softy shooter. Really enjoyable. A heavy duty 9mm feeling, duller, not as sharp recoil.
Great presentation 👍
My only complaint with Glocks in general is having to fumble with their slide lock (takedown) levers. Only remedy is to shell out $13+ for extended ones.
They are incredibly easy to manipulate once you get used to them.
I have no problem with that. My issue is the stock sights.

45 feels more recoil then 10 mm some clam a beast terminator round
I got both guns so I’m happy lol
I'm glad to be in the Glock Family...in my family tree..Glock 19 9mm..Glock 20 10mm and Glock 36 .45cal.
You can't swap barrels the g20 slide doesn't have a big enough hole for the .45 ACP barrel to for through unfortunately
How is it possible that with a glock 20 you can shoot 40sw ammunition. You are sure it is possible.
@@Fer1988arg you can literally take a stock Glock 20 and throw 40 SW ammo through it no problem
10mm is better but harder for follow up shots I personally love 45 but whatever you shoot make sure to shoot alot and carry
Harder for follow up shots ? 😂😂 I’ve been daily carrying a Glock 20 10mm for the past 4 years and I can get follow up shots like a 9mm it feel like a baby to me now other guns feel way too small in my hand I’m way too comfortable with the 10mm
This was a great video. Thank you!
Thank you.
Fun Facts both can convert into a 50 CAL GLOCK CONVERSION UPPER - GEN 3
Great comparison video on these two monsters. The best I’ve seen with inside and outside meticulous details!! Great job!!
Nice comparison as always. Just so you know, I averaged up all of the calibers listed on ballistic101.com's website a couple of years ago, and the average muzzle energy for each caliber was as follows:
.380 ACP- 217 ft. lbs.,
38 Special- 260 ft. lbs.,
9MM LUGER- 379 ft. lbs.,
.40 S&W- 447,
.45 AUTO- 447,
.45 GAP- 448,
.357 SIG- 526 ft. lbs.,
357 MAGNUM- 574 ft. lbs.,
10mm- 650, and
.44 Mag- 964.
@@pewpewTN lol when you get hit w/45 ur not gonna have a good outcome js ! If you want the 10mm just buy a 21 and do the conversion enough said !
@@davidgolden1726 What are you even talking about?

Great video. Very informative. Thank you.
I wonder if a barrel swap is possible, like the situation with the G 19, G 23, and G 32. Are the barrels the same outside diameter?
You need the Barrel, Spring and Magazine for the 10mm. You can go .45 to 10, but can't make a 10 into a .45. Similar to how you can convert a .40 into a 9, but can't convert the 9 into a .40. There is a slightly different extractor for between the 10 and .45, but it'll work(for the most part) and not 100% reliable if you don't switch them out also. There's a few videos out there, look up Glock 21 - .45ACP to 10mm Conversion.
Very nice gun. Which 10mm pistol is Your favorite? I mean Glock, xdm, s&w, etc.
45 acp is one of my favorite cartridges, it's designed for close up,50 yards or less, and two legged animals, that's what it was (45) designed for and that big bullet delivers it's energy on target, beyond that could still work out, but I like it for close encounters and home defensive situation (CQB) started shooting 38 special mod 60 chiefs spl at 5and6 years old and 357 magnum colt trooper at 6 and 1911s at 9 and larger at 10 , 357 and 45 are my favorites followed by 44 magnum and special, and 41 magnum and 327 and 32 magnums , they all have a certain niche and use, but a45 has power on target and a less likely chance of overpenatration at close ranges, have carried various calibers in the military and law enforcement, only rounds i have not tried, but maybe 🤔 one day is a 500 magnum and a 45 GAP , and very little of 460 magnum and 454 casull , although I like the 460 mag, and its ability to use the 454 casull and 45 long colt , a very versatile pistol like my 327 magnum that can also use 32 magnum and 32 long , and 32 short and in a pinch 32 acp, but some guns can double has a survival and a defensive purpose tool,if i was in Alaska, north or South Dakota, Montana, i would definitely have a 460 magnum,10 mm and a 357magnum and a 327 magnum , they would cover the defence and survival situation and some type of a 22 lr or 22 magnum and a 12 gauge shotgun, anything 9 mm and lower for back up, worked with some of my law enforcement colleagues that have used 9 mm in shooting scenarios and the perpetrator was not stopped with 6 or more rounds and was able too still be combative , untill they were stopped and dropped with a 12 gauge, back in the 80s
But I like all caliber pistols and rifles they have a place if used for intended purposes and some emergency situations, until you get a better or fight your way for a better choice of fire arm, but it's better to have a good choice fire arm has a good choice like a 357 magnum or a 45 acp a 357 sig or a 40 s&w🤔💯a 45 Acp and a 12 gauge are excellent for home defense and a 9 mm for back up or secondary😅
Awesome video. I love my G20
Thank you.
G20 all day long just put trijicon HD night sites on it. Its definitely a beast.
Nice video, I have both of these awesome Glocks, I have the 3rd generation sf models, and I can't wait to take them to the range!

Looken for one. Company number if so.... gen 3. G20 10mm
Glock 20 is the most powerful Glock on the market.
Used to be, now the G40 10mm is on the scene and ups the ante with a bit more barrel length.
In comparing the .45 & the 10 mm I feel the .45 is for the 2 legged predators & the 10 mm for the 4 legged predators!!
The energy level stated with the 10mm is only for a specific brand/loading. Typical 10mm on the shelf isn’t too much hotter than typical 40 cal. They’re selling a myth.
True 10mm is 200 gr at 1200 fps training rounds are watered down and some brands under load their rounds but true 10mm is more powerful
The slide for the 20 is slightly heavier.
Just put a 10mm conversion barrel in your G21.
So question is 21 or 20 ???
Actually I have the 21 Gen3 but the 29 Gen4 doesn't fit in my 21 holster. I looked it up and Glock actually lists the 29 as 1 mm Thicker! I didn't check the 20 though I assume that's the same as the 21 like you said. So I was like dang, more money on another holster

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Last , I dought I've shot more than 100 rounds through my 21 since I bought it new. Thank you for any information you can offer. Pete
2 years laste but if it’s a Glock 20SF gen 3 model then it’s suppose to be bent❗️
G21 and just get 10mm conversion barrel with mags
I just got the G21 and was wondering if it would’ve been better to get the G20 and then get 21 barrel. I modded the 21 out so have all of the stock stuff (slide, barrel, trigger etc)
Does the 10mm mag fit the .45 since they are so identical
They will fit into the frame and lock, because they both use the same frame. They are not interchangeable because the case length and diameter are different.
Thats a great question I was just about to ask!
Should try the 29. It’s my daily carry.
I have a 29 and often do carry it, though a 26 is my normal EDC.
