I'm never buying a firearm based on a Hickok45 video. Super informative and helpful, but this man makes shooting a 10mm look as easy as a full size .380 lol. You're too good my friend.

I’m 5’9 and have somewhat small hands. The Glock 20 was my first firearm and first gun I ever shot. Since I started with it, I’ve never had a problem thinking it’s ‘powerful’ or handling recoil. It’s an easy firearm to shoot imo. I’d rather shoot 10mm over 9mm any day. If you started with a 380 or something I can see how you would think the Glock 20 is hard to handle.

My new Glock 20 gen. 5 is the tightest Glock I have ever seen. Not a bit of slide rattle when brand new. Cleaned and oiled it up before shooting it. It also had a very rough pick up rail on the bottom of the slide due to the thickness of the black finish. I Polished it up after I shot about 300 rounds. During the break in, I used 15 round magazines with # 2, #3, and #4 followers as well as new 10 round mags that came with the pistol. The new 15 round mags with #3 and #4 followers had weak springs from the factory, more like 9mm springs. Three malfunctions with those mags. The mags with #2 follower had very stiff springs and no malfunctions. Also the 10 round mags worked well and had no malfunctions. I need to shoot again with the polished pick up rail because I think it was slowing down the slide a bit as well.

I had the same feeding issues with my new G20 Gen 5. I took it to a gunsmith and he polished the barrel and feed ramp and all is well now: zero reliability issues. Before, you could take a round and place it in the barrel (out of the gun of course) and it took just the slightest bit of pressure to get the round to fully chamber. Now it drops in by gravity alone.

I bought this gun at the egunner auction. Funny that you mention that the 10 round mags might come in handy -- I bought this gun in Washington state (10 round mag restriction), so it worked out! I'll be using this as a hunting sidearm this season in Montana.
The only malfunctions I've had after ~200 rounds are from the slide release being slightly extended on the Gen 5's compared with earlier generations, so my hand causes it to lock back when the mag isn't empty. I guess that'd be called a user error though, so I'm trying to adjust my grip. I did lube the gun pretty heavily after receiving it though, seems like new Glocks are quite dry from the factory which could have caused your malfunctions (although you mentioned that you oiled it, so who knows).
Anyway, great info as always! Life is good.

I absolutely love my Gen 3 Glock 20SF. Not a huge Glock fan, but I fell in love with the 20. Only issue I have with 10mm is factory ammo. I reload, so it doesn’t affect me as much, but for those that don’t, it just doesn’t make sense to go with the 10mm over the .40S&W. Just not much difference in factory offerings unless you go with the Underwood or Buffalo Bore.

I've found there seem to be levels in muzzle energy from full pressure loads all the way down to much weaker loads for the recoil-averse that want to say "I have a 10mm!" but want it to just kick like a stout 9mm. Examples: Lower end Win white box in the 400s, Rem green box in the 500s. Midrange SIG Sauer in the 600s. Upper end Underwood in the 700s. I haven't tried everything, though. I stay with the heftier stuff, be it FMJ or "carry" bullets (HP or fluted).

Wow Hickok I have been watching your videos and you can shoot just about anything and with amazing consistency. I recently bought a new Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS to replace my S & W Shield +. The first time out while it cycled ammo really well the trigger break was horrible. I mean really hard or stiff! By the time it would finally fire I had lost focus on the shot. So much worse groupings than my Shield. So I bought a new Timney trigger and that made all the difference. That and I also bought it a Holosun SCS Green dot sight. Now it is a nice improvement over my Shield even though I still like my Shield. So far I have fired about 250 rounds of Blazer CCI and some Winchester ammo without any failures. While it's my first Glock after doing some upgrades it is now a really nice pistol to shoot!

My experience with the G20 has always been love/hate. It's such an awesome package but just isn't as reliable as you expect from a Glock. I had several malfunctions just like this, where it doesn't feed the next round. And I'm not even limp wristing.

    • @JROC734
      @JROC734 Рік тому +3

I find that with my GEN3 G20SF this can happen with an aftermarket recoil spring/rod. When I was running a Wolff 22 lb setup it would happen every once in a while. I haven't noticed it with my current Wolff 20 lb spring, and with the factory guide rod/spring assembly I can't ever remember a malfunction.
Really, with this said, even with a 22 lb recoil spring it wasn't a very common occurrence. Maybe once every few hundred rounds I'd get either a FTF or FTE. I think I even caught a stovepipe once. Also it didn't matter, it could be very hot ammo, or very watered down ammo. It could do it to either. The stiffer spring sure did make it shoot like a Cadillac though.
I feel sure I've probably got going on 4K rounds through this gun, and have probably experienced 5-6 of these types of instances.

It seems like a failure to feed, probably due to the mags, as you can see that with the first failure, the extractor failed to grab the casing so that tells me the round wasn't properly seated when the slide went forward. at that point usually the extractor should hold the rim just fine. I would say it's either the mags or the gun needs to be fired more to loosen up a bit.

Multiple malfunctions. The one I bought had multiple malfunctions every other mag it seemed. The Gen 5 20 is almost entirely different than the Gen 3/4.
The slide is significantly lighter, there is a lot of steel removed from inside the slide and outside where the front is rounded off and the slide serrations and the slide cut out making for a much faster slide speed and I assume would batter the frame more.
This would also explain why my brass was ejecting literally 30+ feet away, my Gen 3 is only 10 feet with the same load.
The recoil spring is longer and entirely different from the Gen 4 making aftermarket support impossible for the forceable future.
No barrels are available however KKM is working on one and the G20 Gen 5 shares the same lockup as the G29 so any aftermarket G29 extended barrel should work.
I sold mine a couple weeks after having just bought it and bought a Gen 3 Glock 20. No malfunctions after 400 rounds now.

I took the Glock armourer course, I don't know whyglock doesn't brag about all the internal improvements, my guess is the malfunction thing is some little tweak in a mag or extractor or something. No doubt in my mind it will be addressed. Sadly seems like you want to avoid the first few months of production. Saw it with gen 4s then later with the 42 (took them 3 tries to get the mags correct). I trust my Glocks to work just perfectly as long as I do my part. But any gun has to prove itself especially the first few months of production.
