I've never in my life used a slip of any kind. But to be honest my pocket knife usually rides in a pocket free of keys and coins. I've got a few slips but I never use them. I know I'm in the minority among knife collectors but I'm probably with the majority among users; if that makes any sense.
Same here Tobias! I actually don’t get slips at all. It makes your knife bulkier in your pocket, and if it doesn’t have a clip, it’ll just turn sideways in your pocket unless you’re wearing really tight pants which I do not. I normally carry a rough Ryder Barlow or canoe, or copperhead, in my fifth pocket and it works out great. You’re able to grab it one handed from said pocket. The drawback being, you can’t carry a larger knife like a large toothpick or trapper, but I carry a modern folder for those bigger cutting tasks. I’ve bought the rough Ryder slips with the clip, but there’s no bottom so the knife can go thru it. I think a lot of this edc we see now, is just pocket jewelry. I bet half these guys barely even use their stuff. I do like the aspect of supporting small businesses like the slip guy, but I gotta find something I can actually use. Tell skip I said hi, Tobias!
Great video! I also use leather pocketslips with every traditional knife I carry. I learned to make the slips myself and make a new one whenever I don't have a fitting one for a new knife.
This guy does excellent work. I have a 2023 vampire Jack by Jack Wolf knives coffin shaped handles. He made me a black leather slip coffin shaped with skull and crossbones on the front they are in excellent fit. I need one for my new Rose Craft knife the Loosahatchie Jack.
Great Video Mark! Thanks for the kind words. We definitely appreciate your business! I subscribed to your channel so I can check out your videos in the future. I’m definitely a blade nut so I bet I can get some great ideas. 👊
If I carry a traditional a slip is a must for me. Keeps the pivots clear of lint and keeps the knife in a fixed predictable position in my pocket. I'll have to check this fella out. Good video
I agree leather slips are very nice to have. I like to put my slipjoints in one when I carry one. Mainly because they don't have pocket clips. I never know what else may wind up in my pocket. Plus I don't want coins or keys getting into them. Wish you had put his info in the description. I can watch again and get it. Thanks always willing to check out someone's work. Would rather support a small business rather than a big 1 size fits all shop.
I put my knives in cases that go on my belt. I don't carry anything in my pockets and my keys are on a carabineer on my belt. I just don't like stuff in my pockets of my pants. I would put a knife in a case in my jacket would be different
not rocket science what they do for your knives. what you failed to point out is that storing a knife inside leather can promote rust. anyone with a valuable large non-stainless blade knife knows this.
I use a slip with pretty much every slipjoint I carry to protect them! Thanks for sharing Mark!
I’m really glad you featured pocket slips and a small maker! This was a great video! I’m going to check out his work!

Definitely a great way to protect a knife or other gear in the pocket. Great video 👍
That custom double stuff is way nicer than the original
Thanks for the video partner! Slips are a great way to protect our favorite knives, that way they stay prettier longer :)
I agree!! I hope these will do the job
Mark don’t get rid of that leather sheath for the spyderco stone you can strop your k Ives on that!!!!!
I have tried using it for that but the suede just didn’t work as well as my strop with compound

main reason for a slip for me is to keep my knife from scratching up my phone
I like slips to prevent it falling out of my scrub pant pockets while getting in/out of truck

I got gifted some deer hide. I’ll try to make some slips with it. I’m wondering how the supple hide compares.
Hope to see a video once it’s done!
You can also attach a pocket clip to a pocket slip for slipjoints.
How?
