(Deep voice) _Youuuu rangggg?_ **dies in coughing fit**
Anyways wow... just wow... I figured I should actually make a comment, instead of leaving half finished drafts in my files for weeks -(wait a second, that sounds a lot like I do with my horrific attempts at remixing 0_o)- ... So uh this comment might be on the shorter side.
It's super cool seeing Kali's art style change throughout these videos, and the take of Rosalina as a painter is a neat concept! It's nice to see the lumas in her artstyle too, the shading on them this time around is literally to die for. The extra references on the character design front are super neat (especially the wand), and the painting occurring in the bedroom dome of the original Observatory is also a great nod... even if Galaxy 2 replaced our guardian of the stars with Lubba..... And the Observatory with the Faceship. Let's be honest though, Faceship's music is great. Also, Lubba just seems like that cool uncle who you would never _want_ to tour the galaxy with... but at the same time they're a lot better than you would have expected. The painting-in of the storybook is a nice touch too! -(Though I will, inevitably, nit-pick that the story isn't about green stars.... it's more about giving the reader depression...)-
In any case, music. You mentioned another beloved tune from that game making an appearance, and _wow you were not kidding._ I don't know how you slipped in Comet Observatory in so much and so well (0:58, in particular, and I'm surprised how you reigned it back in!), but honestly, great work. I must admit I'm not _as_ familiar with Galaxy 2's soundtrack as I am with 1, but I can definitely hear a few things. First off, around 0:28 (not sure if it was in the original but...) I hear that classic "Super Mario Galaxy" lietmotif. That's the musical phrase that plays when you load up the game and hit the title screen! I always love Good Egg Galaxy, and the fact that Green Star is an arrangement of it is just wonderful. Overall, this is just a very warm and welcoming remix! I especially love how you started the remix trying to emulate the instrumentation and feeling of the original. On a production side, you've improved a ton! The way you're handing your violins now... wow, massive difference. In your background piano too! The mixing and mastering is wonderful, and to be honest, I'm envious ;-;. Continuing on the train of things that I'm loving: That bouncy background synth that sounds like it's straight out of the game. I don't know if you were trying to channel "Gateway Galaxy" vibes harder than the original did, but in any case, you delivered! You 100% nailed the dynamics here too.
    Amazing work, as always.
Side Note: You really need a discord server! I've personally been hanging out more in the Megamix Community (and their respective discord servers) and Typho's server when I have a couple spare minutes here and there, and those communities are incredible. Thanks for sending them my way!

Scotcho, thank you so much for the incredibly detailed and eloquently-worded comment! It's always a sincere pleasure to read and respond to what you write, and my apologies for the delay in replying, but I wanted to hold off until I had a good opportunity to respond at length.
Heh, I love that Addams Family reference, as a big fan of the show - I don't know how many people would get that nowadays, but I'm all for it! And while I know all too well that feeling of elaborate-or-bust when it comes to commenting, there are definitely no expectations or precedents here. Honestly, I'm just thrilled that people are interested in listening to the remixes on this channel, and comments of any length are always very much appreciated! :) But again, I know you hold your own writing to a very high standard, and I totally get it... still, it's really good to see you in the comments again! 😄 (also, I like how "on the shorter side" equates to what most people would consider very elaborate)
And hey, regarding the issue of having unfinished WIP tracks, that's a tricky thing to deal with. On one hand, it never feels right to finish a remix quickly for the sake of having a finished remix, but I think that the more remixes that are left in a WIP state, the harder it is to see any one of them to completion. And it might not be my place to say, but I'd love to see some of those remixes posted on UA-cam - completed or not.
But back to your thoughtful and precise analysis! Kali often enjoys reading these comments, as well, and she and I are both very grateful that you always take the time to remark on her artwork specifically. It's pretty wild to look back at some of the older pieces she worked on and note how her abilities have evolved and improved. And all props go to Kali for the concept of having Rosalina paint scenes in her bedroom-turned-studio. Initially, we were going to have Rosalina painting a single mural with Green Stars falling all around, and while that definitely would have been more thematic and accurate, it proved to be a bit too much of a challenge to execute, especially given our limited time. -I know that the storybook scenes shown have very little to do with the actual Green Star chapter in SMG2 but- Kali and I felt it'd make for a peaceful animation concept that coincided well with the style of music I was going for. We definitely took some creative liberties here! 😅 -that, and there's no actual story involving the Green Stars other than that one cutscene, but I digress-
Thank you very much for the kind words regarding her artwork, though! I really love her revised Luma design, and re-coloring it to make a green Luma was a cinch! If anyone noticed the tiny details in these designs, I knew it'd be you, and thanks for pointing out the subtle touches, like the star wand hair accessory and bedroom motif. Also, hard agree regarding Lubba - he grew on me throughout the game, I must admit, but I still vastly prefer our beloved Guardian of the Cosmos. 💫
Your comments regarding the music just warm my heart tremendously to read, and I'm elated that you pointed out some of the Comet Observatory references in the piece. Initially, I had planned to use the "B section" of the Observatory theme to bridge the first and second iterations of Green Star, while integrating a key change, but it ended up being a much looser interpretation, deviating from the original melody significantly. And those iconic first few measures of Comet Observatory happened to work surprisingly well as a countermelody to both themes (with a bit of tweaking), and I sure as heck wasn't going to pass up on that opportunity! 😁
That segment at 0:28 is actually just a happy coincidence, I think! I didn't intend to include the main fanfare from SMG, but now that you mention it, I can definitely hear the similarities! And yes, I love that Green Star basically remixes Good Egg Galaxy, much like Sweet, Sweet Galaxy, Throwback Galaxy and Beep Block Galaxy pay homage to iconic tunes from earlier games. I just love when composers do that, and I honestly can't get enough of it!
And thanks so much for mentioning the instrumentation and production aspects! I was really surprised that one of my go-to synths sounded very close to the 6/8 beeping in the original Green Star, when played in lower octaves, and with the square wave base swapped out for a sine wave. I'm really happy that you pointed it out, as I had wanted to reproduce that one aspect as faithfully as possible. :) Also, your feedback regarding the string synths has me smiling ear-to-ear - thank you!! That's become one of my staple instruments, and I'm trying to do as much as possible with Slide Notes, velocity, channel volume, and manual vibrato to get it to sound more expressive, so hearing that you feel it's improved means so much to me. ^_^
That's awfully kind of you to say that I should have a Discord server, but I'd be the absolute worst person to have one, given my inability to maintain consistent communication outside of UA-cam comments. I'm more than content being both a lurker and contributor in those servers you mentioned, and I feel that any time that I could dedicate to managing a server is time that I'd rather spend working on music, visuals, or commenting on other people's remix videos. You know how it is!
Thanks again for taking the time to listen so intently and for writing such a wonderful comment. I am really happy that you enjoyed this remix, and again, I appreciate your taking the time to write at length. Take care, my friend, and I hope to see you soon! 💛

Honestly, the OSTs for both Galaxy games are so good, and although I prefer the first game's soundtrack overall, Galaxy 2 has some real standouts, like Throwback Galaxy, Beat Block Galaxy, and of course Green Star. 😁 And yes, can't forget the adorable Lumas! Hey, Fabian, this comment really made my day - thank you so much! Seeing you describe this remix as peaceful really warms my heart, and hearing that someone could fall asleep to this hits on a different level for me. I remember there was a period of several months, around the time that Galaxy 2 came out, where I would listen to this on repeat nearly every night and fall asleep while listening. It really became sort of a comfort song for me, and hearing that this remix shares that same quality means more than I can say.
I'm glad you liked the visuals and overall style, as well! I wanted that peaceful aura to be reflected in the video elements, as well, so I went for some gentler animations this time around. Thanks again for the uplifting comment - I'll be seeing you! :)

The intro was *chef's kiss* what a way to start! The slow warm build into a more crisp, percussive beat with sparkly-sounding synths was just excellent.
The piano and drums that come in to make it more full. The constant push and pull feel with (drones?) just amplified this listening experience. I don't know how you do this, but I'm a huge fan! To create such an emotional listen-- amazing job as always!
My only complaint is that you gave us 2:20 of it and no more *dramatically sobs* Kidding, of course. I enjoyed every second!
I honestly don't have much to say. I'm speechless, I guess. Great job, friend!

    • @Equalyze
      @Equalyze  Рік тому +1

G-Squared, thanks so much for the lovely and detailed comment! This was truly a joy to read, and I can't help but smile when I read it, even now. ^_^
I'm glad to hear that you liked the intro especially, and thanks for saying so! I wanted to stay true to the original, in terms of instrumentation and arrangement, for that familiarly warm and sort of celestial sound. And I love the way you described the synths - sparkly - as that was precisely the kind of texture I was going for - sort of with a stardust quality. I often forget what a difference layering in a glockenspiel and/or chime synth can make, and there's often room in the upper end of a mix to add them in without encroaching on other instruments.
Thanks also for mentioning the drums and pianos! Like many other people, piano is often a go-to instrument for me, and I just find it to be so versatile. Here, it fit the elegant and mellow sound I was going for, while adding a bit of clarity and articulation. And although they're relatively simple, the percussive elements here are some of my favorites that I've done in awhile. I'm a big sucker for 6/8 drum beats, and this is a particular pattern that's always stuck in my mind, for some reason. And I believe the droning sort of sounds that you're hearing are from a mid-low pad that's playing sustained notes alongside the chords. There's a bit of natural crescendo with the instrument, as it's held for longer notes, and kudos to you for picking up on that! :)
Haha! Not gonna lie, I thought you were going to reference a specific segment of the track, especially with the timestamp, but I really appreciate that you've provided such encouraging and enthusiastic feedback. Just as I know you do, too, I'm always interested to hear any constructive remarks regarding areas for improvement, and I often think of your observations on the Dragon Roost Island remix, and how spot-on they were.
Thanks again, my friend, for always taking the time to listen with such intent and comment so thoughtfully. I'll be seeing you! 🌟

The Mario Galaxy series soundtrack has always been very good. Your remix convinced me that it was always possible to make it even more sentimental!
I love the reverb effect you applied to the claps and the chime. This reinforces the feeling of spatial emptiness, also present when Rosalina is with us. (By the way, in France, we call her Harmonie, because harmony :) ).
Once again, you rocked the visual effects! It's always a pleasure to watch your animations at the same time to listen to your remixes, each as beautiful as the other.

      @Equalyze  Рік тому +1

Guimu, thank you very much for the thoughtful and detailed feedback! I always really enjoy reading and responding to your comments, as they're heartfelt and meaningful. 😊
I agree that the SMG games' soundtracks are among the best in the series, and they've aged extremely well. But wow, to know that this remix could take the sentimentality a step further is very high praise indeed - thank you! I really appreciate your feedback on the reverbed percussion here, as this was a greater use of reverb than I've used previously for percussive elements. A big thing that helped with lengthening the sound was using FL Studio's Transient Processor plugin, and lengthening the Release parameter. It's one of my most-used effect plugins, and I couldn't more highly recommend it, as it can make harsh note attacks gentler, too.
It's really interesting to know that Rosalina goes by a different name in France - Harmonie is a really pretty name, and I love the tie-in it has with musical concepts. 🎶 Since Kali had already drawn Rosalina for the Comet Observatory remix, she decided to go with a more modern design here, and it was Kali's idea to have her paint the different scenes from the Storybook. I really rely on her support for these, and the animations wouldn't be possible without her providing the custom artwork, so we both really appreciate your kind words regarding the visuals - so happy you enjoyed them! ^_^
Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to write such personalized comments each time, and it's encouraging to know that these remixes don't wear out their welcome. I'm looking forward to your next remix as well, my friend! 🌟

Above all, I always want the music to be easy and/or pleasant to listen to, and that's a quality that I really strive for, so to hear that this piece has a high listenability means the world - thank you!! And I appreciate that you always take an interest in the description and even reference it in your comments, like your mention of the arrangement and dynamics - I'm happy to hear that they came across well here! 💛
I know what you mean, regarding beats in different time signatures. 6/8 is one of my favorites, and I especially love this pop ballad style. This is a rhythm that I always seem to have stuck in my brain, so it was nice to be able to use it here. And I love that you mentioned the added movement in the beat, as I tried to mix it up a bit with 16th notes and rolls in the hi hat, with a few offset snare rim hits here and there. So glad to hear that the beats worked out here as I had hoped!
Kali and I are both very grateful that you always mention the visuals and her designs in particular - thank you! Being able to request artwork for nearly every video and work so closely with her has been a real blessing, and her artwork really ties things together! It was Kali's idea to have Rosalina paint scenes from the storybook in this video, with a modernized design, and I'm lucky to have her support in coming up with video concepts, as well. Also, your slick text transitions in your Champion Interview remix video directly inspired me to use a motion blur effect to accompany the text change, and it's something I'll definitely be doing from now on, so thank you for executing that idea so well! I still have that other effect (adding motion to still images) in mind, which I hope to look into very soon, as well!

Ahhh this was absolutely lovely! Galaxy 2 was one of my favourite games as a kid so this was a huge wave of nostalgia! It's so calming! I could probably fall asleep to this. lol As always your mix is amazing and I honestly wish to know your secrets! XD There's a magical quality to this arrangement. It's very emotional, almost reminiscent, but still hopeful. I know part of that is the original composition, but that one comes across a little whimsical and excited for the future in my opinion, where this feels like you're looking back and seeing where you've been. This very clearly comes straight from your heart and gushes out into every aspect of this remix!

Vividity, thank you so much!! Reading your comment brings me a great deal of joy, and I am really happy that you enjoyed it! ^_^ I have to agree that Galaxy 2 is a stellar game, though its OST seems to be somewhat eclipsed (in terms of popularity) by the original Galaxy's soundtrack - which, to be fair, is absolutely phenomenal. This is my favorite song from that game, and I'm surprised it's not talked about more.
Tangents aside, I hugely appreciate that you always take an interest in the description and make note of it in your comments. It means a tremendous amount that the arrangement came across as heartfelt, in the way I hoped it would. And seeing it described as lovely and calming is equally meaningful for me - thank you for the thoughtful feedback, and the way you use words so beautifully is very impactful!
Heh, I wish I had secrets to share, and I'm humbled that you feel there's a particular quality to my music! If anything, I'd say it's just a lot of trial-and-error, and getting very invested in each song that I work on. The audio portion for each remix generally takes anywhere from 40-60 hours, and export it after each work session and listen to it wherever I can - in the car on the way to and from work, while walking, doing chores, etc. I don't have a strong music theory or production background, so most of the process is just figuring out stuff as I go. 😅 But I do feel like I am learning new things with each project, so it's really encouraging to hear that the results have been positive!
Ah man, I can't even put into words how much it means to know you feel that way about my interactions with the community - thank you!! There are several long-term goals that I've set from the start, and one of them is to engage positively with people in the VGM remix community; to always lift up and encourage people and take a sincere and invested interest in their art. And it warms my heart tremendously that you and many others go all-in when supporting others, and it's definitely taking a foothold! In a time period where being ironic, detached, and unenthused seems to be pervasive on the internet, it's so refreshing to see people being genuine, invested, and enthusiastic. Thank _you_ for being such a positive and empowering force in the community, and for always taking the time to comment in detail on each remix. I'll see you soon, my friend! 💛
EDIT: Ah, I nearly forgot! Kali sends her thanks for the kind words regarding the artwork and video! Since she had already created a design of Rosalina, we were brainstorming ideas for the video, and she came up with the concept of having Rosalina paint something throughout the video. Originally, our idea was to have a single, large mural that gradually got filled in, but we eventually decided to adapt some of Rosalina's storybook pages to the canvas (even though they don't have anything to do with the Green Stars, in truth... 😅) We're both delighted that you enjoyed the visuals here, and thanks for saying so!

Really love this one. I haven't played this game over Galaxy 1, but have heard music from them before and I think this remix fits the spirit of the game pretty well. It's a very warm feeling track; love the bass in this one. The movement around the video is also a nice touch. Cudos, and well done EQ!

Hey, Void, thanks so much for the detailed and heartwarming comment! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed this one, especially in spite of not having played Galaxy 2 a whole lot. It means a great deal to know that you feel the sound style of this remix fits the game's essence, as that's something I always strive for.
Seeing you describe the remix as warm is encouraging, as that was the primary feeling I wanted in the music. I'm glad that was reflected in the bass sounds, as well, and I went with a low-transient synth bass that I hoped would provide depth and warmth without being too intrusive or overbearing. And thanks for the comments on the video, as well! I recently discovered that the visualizer program I use in FL Studio has a Zoom feature that can be automated, and unfortunately it can't pan around, but I found that moving everything else around instead can create the same effect as moving the camera itself. It's definitely more tedious, but I'm glad that it created a nice bit of dynamic motion, and I'm definitely planning on using the effect more in future videos - thanks for the feedback on that! :)
Again, I really appreciate that you always take the time to comment so thoughtfully on both the audio and visuals for each remix. It's hugely motivating for me! ^_^

I know exactly what you mean in regards to the nostalgic sentiment brought on by the Galaxy games and their soundtracks. Their reputation as a special, once-in-a-lifetime series is certainly warranted, and I have such fond memories playing them. This song in particular made an instant and lasting impression on me, and I remember just listening to it constantly - sometimes on repeat for an hour or more - in the years following the game's release. The original is so beautiful and calming, and I'm thrilled to know that you felt those feeling were kept intact here, and that the added parts enriched it - that's always my goal with the music, and your feedback in that regard is very encouraging!
I really appreciate your mentioning the other artists that helped to inspire and create this video! I'm very fortunate to have both of their support, as well as yours - thank you for that! Kali 's art never ceases to impress me, and being able to plan video concepts and work alongside her so closely has been a real blessing. I'm so glad you enjoyed her modernized design of Rosalina here - it's definitely one of my favorites!

I really appreciate your taking the time to read the description and reference it in your comment, and it means so much to know that the arrangement was impactful for you. And thank you for your kind remarks regarding the instrumentation specifically - I feel that a blend of synthetic and real (-sounding) instruments is the sweet spot for me, so it's encouraging to know that this hybridized sound came across well here. Thanks also for the feedback on the drums! Although they're relatively simple here, I really fretted over the volume of the kick, hi hats, snaps, and snare rims, so hearing that they were in balance is reassuring!
And thank you so much for your particular mention of the ending! Of all the things I take pride in with the music, the arranged endings are one of the top aspects, and I always love when people mention them specifically, as you have here. EQUALYZE, THIS SOUNDS SO GOOD!!!
I've been listening to this on and off for the past week and I'm so thrilled to finally share my thoughts on this masterpiece.
I absolutely love that flute, and its transitions to and from your violin synth is just flawless! As always, your instrumentation is next level! Such a full sound, clear, and all around beautiful! From leads, to supporting parts, to bass, to percussion, It's all just insane! This track is just the perfect example of the kind of quality that I strive to get to someday!
Kali's art, combined with your creative automation and extensive work in zgev, just brings these visuals to life! Every production you produce is just so inspiring! Just watching the video as a viewer, it would be so easy to take the visuals for granted. I'm so glad I have experience working on similar projects, because I actually know how insane these visuals are! The amount of hours it takes just to plan and automate countless parameters to the finest details, your work always blows my mind man!
From scrambling to study and get through midterms (My college is weird and runs with 8 week courses instead), to driving a total of 22 hours this weekend to make VGM Con (12 hours there, 10 hours back), your track was there to help me power through it all! Thank you for this masterpiece man, I cannot get enough of this production! :D

SteelDragon, I wish you could see the giant smile on my face as I read your comment - seriously, thank you so much!! Your heartfelt words are incredibly encouraging and motivating to read, and it's honestly hard to put into words how much they mean to me, but that won't stop me from trying!
Before anything else, I'm delighted to hear that you've been enjoying the music over the last week! It's heartwarming to know that this song has been a regular listen for you since its release.😊I haven't had any extended travels in a few years, but VGM remixes have been what gets me through those longer drives and mentally taxing work sessions. Your remixes are on speed dial for me, and I know that over the years, you'll keep creating videos to look forward to!
Dang, that's a lot on your plate, but I hope that your midterms are going/went as well as possible. And man, that is some serious dedication, to drive out to VGM Con, in spite of all that you had going on. When I hear about the experiences that people like you, Theølogy, Player 2, and Vector U are having at conventions this year, I can't help but be envious! 😅 To say that I am looking forward to meeting you guys is an understatement, and Kali and I definitely plan to attend MAGFest 2024!
I really appreciate your feedback regarding the instrumentation, and I'm so glad you liked the instrument choices and usage here! The flute is a modification of the "WND Meloflute NUC" preset in Morphine (one of my favorite VSTs in the past year, by the way), and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite "real instrument" sounds. The string synths (both violin and cello) are from Sakura, modified from the "Sax 5" preset, surprisingly enough! I am especially happy that you mentioned the transitions between the two leads, as that's an aspect that I really wanted to emphasize here, with the goal of having more fluid instrumentation. I found that I had gotten into the habit of mostly introducing or removing instruments at the start of a new segment, and this has helped me to become more comfortable with having instruments change mid-segment, or even mid-phrase.
I'm delighted that you enjoyed the other elements, as well! The percussive elements were trickier than I anticipated they'd be, as there were fewer of them than usual, so I had to make sure each one really counted! As I mentioned to Alter Loy, this 6/8 rhythm is a beat that I always seem to have stuck in my head, and I was psyched to finally be able to use it here. 😁 Thanks also for your kind remarks regarding the bass - that's something that I stressed over tha balance and tone of, so it's encouraging to know that it fit well here!
Thank you so much for always providing detailed feedback on the visuals, as well! I'm always proud to show Kali people's supportive remarks regarding her artwork, and she's grateful for your kind words. And it's heartening that you know exactly what goes into a ZGEV-made video, and makes the effort feel all the more worthwhile! Because this video didn't have as much animation as usual, I thought it'd be good to utilize the Zoom feature to make the video more dynamic. During the process, I learned that exporting the video, then adding that .mp4 into a new project file makes "moving the camera" around much more manageable. I thought initially that I would have to move _everything_ in unison to create a panning effect with the camera, but by rendering it all into a single, flattened video, just the video itself can be moved with the X and Y movement parameters. It's a bit of a cheese tactic, but until there's some kind of option to pan the camera view, it's a decent workaround!
But man, I truly can't convey properly how humbling it is to hear that this remix is an exemplar for you. As I keep mentioning in my comments on your videos - and will continue to mention - I think that the time you spend making each remix video as polished as possible will serve you well in the end. It's a patient and focused approach, and the quality of your production speaks for itself!
Once again, thank you for the wonderful comment, my friend, and I'm excited as ever for your next upload! :D

It's heartening to hear that you felt the remix came across as tranquil and dreamy, as I had hoped - thank you! You always use such precise terms when describing people's remix videos, and it speaks to how much effort and care you put into analyzing and appreciating other people's music and visuals. The VGM remix community is very, very lucky to have you, not just as a stalwart supporter, but also as an exemplar for polished video and audio production. Truly!
Heh, I'm tickled by the way you adapted my channel name into verb form, and quite flattered, to be honest, with its implication that I've developed a particular sound style or general approach to remixing tracks. Aside from improving continually, honing a particular style has been - and will continue to be - an ongoing goal of mine, so hearing a term like "Equalyzed" carries a lot of weight and meaning for me. Thank you!!
And wow, to be compared to that household-name remixer not once, but _twice_ in the comment section is very high praise indeed! I think Qumu's channel embodies a level of overall quality (and notoriety) that many of us idealize, but honestly, I'm finding that there are plenty of people in our community that are at a similarly high level of audio production (and definitely exceeding in terms of visuals) who are giving it their all, in spite of the rather unforgiving UA-cam economy. I've said it since the end of 2022, and I'll continue to say it until I'm proven otherwise: I think that this is the year where some of us "flying-high-under-the-radar" folks are going to have some real breakthroughs, and I sincerely hope that you're one of them!
Regardless of what this year brings, though, it makes my heart happy to read the wonderful comments that you always take the time to write, and I genuinely admire what a pillar you've been - and continue to be - in our VGM community. Thank you again, my friend! 💛

Hey, Mason, thanks so much for your thoughtful comment! It means a huge amount to hear that you enjoy the music on the channel, seriously. And I'm thrilled that you find this a good fit for studying! ^_^
I'm coming up on 3 years of making remixes with FL Studio, so I'm still relatively new to music production, but I'd be happy to offer whatever tips and/or advice I can!
I'm not sure of your prior experiences with music, but I always find that using sheet music is a good way to build a track's structure, if you're looking to make remixes. Midi files are a very quick way to get into it, too, as you can quickly import them into a DAW like FL Studio, Ableton, Logic Pro X, etc. then change up the instruments, and customize the arrangement with different notes, chords, and rhythms.
For writing original music, I don't have any experience with that, to be honest, but starting with popular chord structures and building songs from there might be a good way to approach it. Sometimes sitting down at a piano and plunking out chords or melody ideas can really get some momentum going.
When I started back in April 2020, I watched a lot of videos by Michael Wynne, who goes by "InTheMix" on UA-cam. His videos are concise, informative, and intended for people of all skill levels. I still watch them and find them extremely helpful, and although he uses FL Studio, most of his techniques can be applied to any DAW. Definitely recommended!
Finally, I've seen many experienced producers mention that a good way to improve quickly is to try to recreate the sound of a song or artist that you really like. By working towards emulating that sound, it begins to become apparent what instruments, processing effects, and other factors go into that person's musical style. It might be a lot of trial-and-error, and may not always be optimal, but it's definitely something I would have liked to know when I first started.
I hope this was helpful in some way, and if there's anything specific you'd like to hear about, I'm more than happy to help however I can. Thanks again! :D

Hanabi, thank you so, so much for this lovely comment! Each time I read it, I can't help but smile, and I'm heartwarmed by your kind and loving words. 😊
Hearing that you feel this could fit into that kind of movie is very high praise - thank you! And even moreso, knowing that it also has an "end credits" feeling is really nice to hear. In a sense, this theme serves as both a beginning and ending theme in SMG2 - it's the start of a journey to collect 120 Green Stars, while marking the end of the first "chapter", in a sense, so I can see where that feeling comes from!
Man, I can't even fully convey with words alone how much it means that you feel I'm able to strike a chord with listeners. That is one of the most treasured qualities that I aim to have with the music, and knowing that my music could do for other people what yours does for me (alongside many other passionate folks in the VGM community), well... it's amazing, really!
As for a "secret sauce", I wish I had one! This piece is one that I actually started back in January, and while I don't think that FL Studio accounts for all my idle time, I'd wager that it's probably one of my most time-intensive music projects to date. In fact, I nearly gave up on this piece about a month ago, when I felt like I was just treading water, but I decided to revisit it after working on Great Fairy Fountain and Break the Targets, and that hiatus worked wonders for being able to push past that creative roadblock. I'm not at all fast when it comes to working on music or videos, but I do labor (read: agonize) over even the minute details, so hopefully it's yielding a positive result. Again, I really appreciate your kind words regarding the music!
Thank you also for the detailed remarks regarding Kali's art! When we were discussing video concepts, she suggested having Rosalina painting some kind of starry mural, which would have been really nice, albeit tricky to pull off. Over time, the idea morphed into painting individual scenes, which Rosalina's storybook conveniently provided. While the scenes themselves don't have much at all to do with Green Stars, in truth, we hoped it would make for a charming and on-theme visualizer, and we're both thrilled by the positive feedback so far, including yours!
Again, thank you very much for the thoughtful and elaborate comment - and so soon after the video uploaded, no less! Your words of encouragement and support are something I always cherish! 💛

This song, E! This is so beautiful, love the harmonics and chord changes taking place here and there. Such a good mood and it make very different feelings popping up inside me which is what good music is all about. I also recognize the melodies and atmosphere from the Star Festival theme in SMG1 which I remixed not too long ago. And I really love it!
The production is very well executed, and it makes me want to hear more songs like this from you. For the first time while listening to your remixes I feel that this kind of sound, atmosphere and style really would be successful through a whole soundtrack. By that I mean: this fits you so damn well you should do the whole SMG2 soundtrack (just like I did with Mega Man 3).
And man, while listening to this for the third or fourth time it gets me so eager to remix this myself. It's not very often I listen to remixed songs that makes me wanna remix that same song too. I take it this must be one of your best songs ever done, if not the actual best (in my opinion). Please think about doing the whole soundtrack, it would be really lovely! I know it's a great deal of time and I guess SMG2 contains like 50-100 songs so maybe not very reasonable for you to go all in. And if you're not that into it, take it as a compliment! :D
Not sure if you're on streaming services yet (like Spotify and Apple Music), but you really should put an effort into a distributor that can get you licenses for your remixes. I'm using Soundrop myself which works very well in 9/10 remixes (they have one condition that the original song must be released officially and digitally in the US).
Really happy you did this one, E! I have never played or heard much from SMG2, but this makes me wanna listen through the whole soundtrack. Thank you so much! Lovely art by Kali as well, and as usual! She's great! Oh, and great job on the visual experience too, you're getting better and better, and I'm getting more and more jealous ;)

And I really appreciate that you took the time to listen multiple times, with intent - especially given how little downtime you have to begin with. It means a tremendous amount that you do that! 💛
I appreciate your mention of the different chord changes and added harmonies throughout, as that was really a major focus for me. The original has such a nice melody, with a bit of mid-range bass and some supporting synth and chime parts throughout, so I felt there was a lot of room to add new parts without taking away from what already makes this song so good. I can see what you mean with some parts resembling the Star Festival from SMG1, as well, as the instrumentation certainly feels reminiscent of that! If there were any references to that piece, they were purely coincidental, but I'm glad that it came across that way! In a few places, there are references to the Comet Observatory theme (which I'd love if _you_ remixed some day, by the way!), but the way the two games' OSTs seem to use recurring motifs makes it feel like you're always hearing familiar (star) bits popping up here and there. 🌟
Man, I am just floored by your interest in hearing the entire OST covered, with this style in mind. Seriously! And your kind remarks regarding the production have me smiling ear-to-ear, too! 😊 I have the highest respect for people who are dedicated and patient enough to remix a game's entire soundtrack, like you did with MM3 and FlameCheese did with Super Smash Bros. 64. And while I would truly love to take on your request/challenge, it would, admittedly, be unreasonable for me at this time. Omitting short fanfares and Yoshi variations from the OST, it looks like there are upwards of 75 unique tracks in the game, and the audio portion of this remix took about 55 hours in total to create. While I'm sure every single song wouldn't take quite that amount of time to remix, I have a feeling I'd be working on Galaxy 2 songs for the remainder of the decade, at my current rate. 😅 That said, I definitely plan to revisit the music of Galaxy 1 & 2 before long, and I sincerely appreciate your interest in hearing the whole OST remixed - thank you!
And wow, hearing that this remix has inspired you to want to create your own cover of this song warms my heart tremendously. I would LOVE if you did that sometime, and I can even sort of imagine how it might sound in your style, just thinking about your recent Kakariko Village remix, for instance, which is already my favorite cover of that song - as well as how incredibly well you captured the celestial magic in your Star Festival remix - I think it would be fantastic! 💫
I do actually a (very) few songs on streaming services, and I initially used Distrokid for those songs, but it got to be expensive pretty quickly, because it's $1 per song, per month for each remix. So to have even a couple dozen of my favorite songs on there would be close to $300 per year. Thankfully, some friends advised me of Soundrop, which I'll definitely be using from now on, with its very-reasonable one-time fees! I have my spring vacation this week, so I'm going to try to use that time to upload several songs that I've been meaning to, after cleaning them up a bit and adapting Kali's designs to make some simple cover art. Thanks very much for the suggestion! :D
Speaking of which, Kali and I are so grateful that you always take the time to comment on her artwork and the visual aspects of the video. It means a lot to hear that you enjoy them, and that you feel there's been constant improvement. It seems that many people in the VGM remix community are really stepping up their visuals to make them more interactive and thematic, and it motivates me to look for new and fun ways to incorporate Kali's designs into each video!
Again, thank you so much for your wonderfully detailed and personalized comments, my friend. They're a joy to read and respond to. Take care, and I'll see you soon!

nice. you should use some sounds from in the game like a Luma sound or something

Hey, SuperMarioKartMaster, thanks so much for listening, and for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the remix. :)
I actually did use some Luma sound effects in my previous Galaxy remix (Comet Observatory), but here, I ended up omitting SFX, merely due to time constraints. I agree that some gentle Luma/Rosalina voice clips or celestial sound effects could add a nice element of nostalgia, though. Thanks for the suggestion! 🌟
