I think the game is coded to sometimes deal in bad faith a little bit. If you're preoccupied with a larger enemy, say a cyclops or a gryphon, the game will occasionally - not every time, mind, just occasionally - spawn in a group of lesser mobs outside of your sight lines to throw a wrench in your works and complicate shit. A pack of wolves or gobbies, something like that. So many times have I been blindsided by a group of mobs that - according to the maps - aren't anywhere near my location, then all of a sudden there they are. Sneaky.
