      @Meat46 They're entertaining parents, not auditioning for judges. There are more videos of him playing his stuff clean, there's one of him doing a clean Jig tenor solo just 10 minutes later. Y'all need to keep in mind that they're 7th and 8th graders. To be able to put on a good show like this for a full audience is absolutely insane!! It takes time to build chops. I'd rather let the kids have fun rather than not let them play anything that isn't perfect just for a football game.

      Yes, they're a bit out of tune 😅 I don't really have a chance to tune them since I have to leave to teach lessons right after or I'm coming back from a different school
      I tend to tune them outside during a warm up right before we go up but, I was coming back from across town from another school's event (the one where they're outside with the cheerleaders in the back)

      @@BanossCalibre Yes, these drums are literally about 20 years old. I played on these exact drums when I was in 7th grade and they were already aged by that time; I just turned 27 last month. Old drums and 3 - 5 year old heads that are beat every day don't tend to hold tuning well and my schedule doesn't really allot time to tune them every week. But yes, I agree, I can definitely make them sound better if I can force the time in my schedule.

  • @CaligulaGaming-iy9cz

    The snare sounded a little out of maintenance. I recommend teaching a kid that is in eighth grade (for middle school) Or a senior (for highschool) how to tune the drums, and have them teach a grade or two younger how to do that too before they leave. My highschool (AHS Union) has a senior who I'd say is our 'drum tech'. He fixes our harnesses and tunes our drums. Its a solid idea!

    • @JoeysStudi0
      @JoeysStudi0  17 днів тому +1

      I agree for HS (part of my curriculum is that High Schoolers tune their own drums if they want to be in the drumline) however, that's almost impossible with middle school since they're prepping contest after contest after performance after showcase
      Since we try to give MS students as many performances as possible, there's no time to teach the behind the scenes (or maintenance) until they get to HS where staying until 7p is the norm (we only get to keep MS until 5p at the latest)

    • @PipedPaulYT
      @PipedPaulYT 3 місяці тому

      @@JoeysStudi0 well, i was talking to monkael, but there’s two tuning settings, pep tuning and parade tuning. your tuning is a perfect pep tone. so you have nothing to worry about, but when you march in parades make sure it’s higher tuned on both the bottom head and top head.

    • @monkael1438
      @monkael1438 3 місяці тому +4

      @@PipedPaulYT what? Its not “perfect pep tuning”, at least in my opinion, sounds muddy as hell and not at all articulate. Id just set aside 30 minutes max once per every few months and just make sure all the snares are cranked and the quads are matching.

    Cool snare solo never seen that before but few things. 1. In my opinion the snare looks a little high but that could just be point of view. 2 they sound out of tune again could be the video frequency not the snare. 3 he attempts the stick flip nicely but doesn’t give a good down beat so I recommend it like a regular stick hit but with a added flip I feels like he thinks he flops then hits but in my opinion I feel it’s easier to do it in a foul swing then to do 2 individual directives like flipping the stick then hitting the snare which is why I do it in a foul swoop. Also last thing I like how there’s a snare solo but (just in my opinion)i feel as if a tenor solo was added with the snare as a duo would sound amazing but during the solo I heard a lot of random accents and as a marching snare percussionist I find it to sound better with a rythem you practice with a metronome to fix it up as I think to many accents make it sound messy even tho it could played perfectly also I like the thought of it as I tried his rythem in my own way with not so many accents and rims shots I think it would sound a lot better if he added some flams or rims shots when it’s playing but at it all could sound better in person than it does thru a video keep practicing I think you got a lot of potential

      I've been trying to force time in my schedule to tune the drums but teaching at 7 schools is rough 💀
      I try to give as many students as possible the opportunity to solo and I heavily enforce that they improv or compose their own solos ahead of time
      I haven't been able to really teach proper backsticking either because I need to teach music to everyone, not just visuals to those that can handle them 😅
      It's crazy tough to balance but I think they're all doing great for being in 7th and 8th grade 🥁🎹🕺
