    About 59 years ago(I'm 77 now) this chapter of Isaiah, was handed to me to read by the man who, that evening, led me to the Lord. When I read...'Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him...' I got my first glimpse of God's character and love. ...how wonderful! ...for all of us!

    The Dead Sea Scroll of Isaiah (the Isaiah scroll predates the standard Hebrew Masoretic text of Isaiah by about 1,000 years - dated to be 200-100 B.C.) retains this beloved passage, proving that it truly was written hundreds of years before the Messiah, Jesus, came on the scene, so anyone claiming that it was written after Jesus or that later Christians put Christian interpolations onto the text, are clearly demonstrated to be wrong.

      What stops those who wrote the Gospels, who clearly knew the Jewish scriptures well, writing the Gospels in a way to mirror Isaiah?

    • @shockthetoast
      @shockthetoast 10 місяців тому +22

      @@mjh277 That's a good question. For one, other sources that tell that Christ lived and was crucified. They have a lot less details but it establishes some basics. Another is that Christianity was heavily persecuted, it wasn't a group someone would join for fun or curiosity. Not just from the Romans, but for Jewish converts it was high persecution by their own leaders. The high growth under persecution indicates that followers believed it was true. Because of the nature of many of the claims in the Gospels (and epistles), it would be fairly trivial to discover that at least some of the major events were made up. One of the best alternatives would be a conspiracy at a level that a tiny persecuted cult couldn't reasonably pull off.

    I think the greatest epiphany I got from this is that despite their despising and rejection of Jesus, and putting him up to humiliation, he still manages to say “Father, forgive them. They know not what they do.” Even though they lifted up the son of god on a cross Jesus’s desire is still to show them mercy, grace, and love. Really goes to show how unfailing his love is, and no matter how much we stumble, he payed the price. We don’t have to. Thank you for sharing this word it really has helped me today as I’ve been struggling with some bodily sickness and standing for healing.

      Psalm 22 is a likely mistranslation, "They pierce" is likely incorrect. The Nahal Hever Psalms scroll reads כארו (Dig?) but the Masoretic text reads כארי (like a lion). The change from yod to vav changes the meaning to "they dug my hands and my feet" which honestly makes no sense. The lack of a verb in the likely original reading (like a lion, my hands and my feet) is fairly common in Hebrew poetry.

    Dr. Bart Ehrman, Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina: “Hebrew Bible scholars for over a century have maintained that the book of Isaiah was not composed completely by the famous Isaiah of Jerusalem in the eighth century BCE. Chapters 40-55, for example, were almost certainly written by someone else living a hundred and fifty years later, during the time when the nation of Judah was in captivity in Babylon…We’re not sure who wrote Isaiah 40-55, other than to say that, first, it was not Isaiah of Jerusalem and, second, it was probably an Israelite living during the Babylonian captivity. We don’t know if he himself physically added his own writings to the writings of Isaiah of Jerusalem (e.g., on the same scroll) or if he simply wrote his book using many of the ideas of his predecessor. That is to say, it may be that it was someone else who put the two bits of writing together, so that the author of what is now Isaiah 40-55 wasn’t making any authorial claim at all, but was simply writing anonymously. Moreover, nowhere does the author of Isaiah 40-55 ever claim to be Isaiah.” - Forged: Writing in the Name of God--Why the Bible's Authors Are Not Who We Think They Are

    I cry every time I read this, the KJV is even more powerful. I know it took a lot of composure for you to go through this and not weep. The greatest anguish is that His Father had to turn away,
    as His Son became sin for us, and for that time He was forsaken by His Father, the worst suffering of ALL. We haven't the slightest idea, how much He had to endure, but we will surely
    be there to rejoice fully in His Triumph, when our joyous hope will be fulfilled. Blessings, Honor, Glory, and Peace to You Brother Mike.

    Amen 🙏 You are a blessing Pastor Mike🙏❤️ Jesus is the ARM of the Lord in ISAIAH 53 as spoken of in ISAIAH 59:16-20 - the Redeemer to come out of Israel - our Intercessor/high priest. The fact that God sees his offspring (SON) and prolongs his days in ISAIAH 53:10, is proof that this SERVANT is also the SON given spoken of by ISAIAH in ISAIAH 9:6.
