Honestly, one of the greatest reasons that won me over as a skeptical scientist was the historicity and reliability of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By all signs of historical criteria like multiple attestation and eyewitness testimony, the criterion of embarrassment, lack of legendary elements, textual overlap with independent ancient Jewish historians, presence of early oral creeds, etc. all testify that Jesus Christ was an actual person, a Jew, who lived in Galilee, had followers and was crucified (which is the scholarly consensus), as well as the discovery of an empty tomb by women followed by post-crucifixion appearances. It’s enough to make even honest skeptical scholars hesitate on an inward breath. Edit: I'll just leave the following quote here: "According to Jacob Kremer, a New Testament critic who has specialized in the study of the resurrection: 'By far most exegetes hold firmly to the reliability of the biblical statements about the empty tomb.' In fact in a bibliographical survey of over 2,200 publications on the resurrection in English, French and German since 1975, Habermas found that 75 percent of scholars accepted the historicity of the discovery of Jesus' empty tomb."
Wow, well said. Another point that really seals it for me is the simple necessity of a tangible, historical basis for faith. Any philosophy or religion can claim whatever it wants, and in some cases, these belief systems are very sound, logical, and appealing. But even if everything that Mohammed said, for example, was completely true, so what? How would we know? If God wanted to speak to us, he would do so definitively - in a way that can’t be mistaken
“independent ancient Jewish historians”. Not much there is there? Nothing contemporary with the events you propose. Not Josephus. Not Roman authors. Don’t you think that, if the graveyards emptied and zombies wandered the streets, it would have made the front page of the Annals?
@@oldpossum57 If you want to disagree with the majority of religious *and secular* NT historians, then I will allow you to be. Edit: This is in regards to the shot at "independent ancient Jewish historians". Obviously, I do not espouse that the scholarly consensus is that the resurrection occurred, due to the topic's patent controversy. I thought this was obvious but I suppose it was not, hence this edit.
Except there is no multiple attestation or eyewitness testimony - the gospels were written by Greek speaking non-eyewitnesses decades after the supposed events, there are plenty of legendary elements between the gospels, oral creeds only state what some believed, crucifixion victims were almost always left to rot as part of the punishment, and there is no contemporary extra-biblical corroboration for these supposed events. The case is so weak historically speaking, there's no reason to even blink, much less take a deep breath.
I’ll say this again. The single most demonstrable miracle we have today is the fact that Jesus said His gospel would be preached to all the nations. Here we are.
@@_J_S_ yea it’s funny when you think about this sometimes. I’ve seen the argument that the belief was that Jesus would return soon, and the apocalypse mentioned is referring to the persecution of the Christian church following his resurrection, but reconcile that theory with this point.
@@nunya3399 Absolutely, yes, another great point. That's definitely a strong argument against the many skeptics who claim Jesus was just a failed apocalyptic prophet.
@@nunya3399that's what happens when the NT was allegorized while the OT was taken literally. It's a completely illogical idea. We can thank Augustine for that mess as he was a well-known antisemite. He held the nonsensical view that the Jews crucified Christ, when we all did. Augustine failed to realize that without Christ's death or resurrection, Christianity would have been pointless. Paul says as much.
@@patk3601 I agree absolutely. If you were to ask me, I crucified Christ, in that He died for my sins, as much as anyone else’. Our sins were the reason he was crucified. If you “didn’t do it”, that is to claim that he did not die for the reason of your sins, instead he died because some people were evil, but not you, you don’t need saving. Excellent breakdown. N.T. Wright is a treasure. He was one of the most crucial figures that God used to fortify my faith during a dark period in my life, seven years ago. I’m forever thankful for his work in defense of the New Testament and the historicity of Jesus’ bodily resurrection. Thanks for the video, Brandon. God bless.
First time in a long time in UA-cam videos in this genre that I've watched where the subsequent narrative was every bit as good as primary speaker's (NT Wright). Excellent summation.

No Jew at the time had heard of Jesus as he did not 'exist' until around 80 CE when he was invented by greek scholars in rome for antisemitic propaganda for caesar. Jesus is white and blonde and the Pope is in Rome. Duh!

Before you answer the questions of the curious, if I were I’d read some of the sceptical comments here. If you are an honest person, as I am sure you are, I think the sceptics bring up a lot of issues you ought to consider.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. I would say that any thoroughly dead person resurrecting (be he mortal, be he divine, or a hybrid) is an extraordinary claim. If you meant more than wordplay, the burden of proof lies with the one who asserts the existence of an invisible, supernatural being. So? Give it your best shot.@@Gabriel.1985.
I'm not the wisest man but if I do know something, it's this. If a fraudulent faith would try to convince you of anything they wouldn't be throwing the most seemingly absurd facts at you. The fact that Christianity talks about resurrection alone is proof enough for me.
I always say, from a secular worldview, the Bible should not even exist applying a rationalist perspective. Almost nothing about the Bible is pretty, and it is often very discomforting. And yet here we have it today. Purely from a point of view of the OT, the prophecies written should not exist if they are fraudulent writings. You don't write prophetic books after bad events have come over your people and write to say that you warned them in advance but they just didn't listen. That makes your people, what are supposed to be God's chosen people, out to be a bunch of idiots. Prophecy is prophecy, you don't create false prophecy and tarnish the image of your people claiming it to be prophecy when it wasn't. Nor would it be canonically accepted.
Plans of a collective people in disguise of miraculous prophecies are there to be fulfilled by those people indeed. Others are getting used unknowingly to help them bring those plans about. Even if it means destroying their own cultures. Praise Jesus.
The truth will prevail til the end of time. There is no other figure in history; religious, human, divine or not, that has impacted manking on planet earth like our Lord Jesus Christ has, no one, and no one ever will.

I was miraculously healed of liver disease @ 33 and I have attacked by thoughts of huh? Really? Multiple miracles matter little when your life has been torn asunder. All of a sudden you have faith in God just not His nearness, love & compassion. Shalom
Thanks for this concise articulation. I came to faith after studying the Bible as a foundation of western civilisation. Two years ago I chose faith in something I couldn't quite believe... and Jesus has come good on the deal. May His Holy Name be praised. Belief in the story came later - and for most of the reasons outlined above, and it was a relief. But my belief is still that the books are fallible... and the way to approach them is not selective blindness, but a discernment of the key messages. If anybody can point me to a concise argument against this I'd be keen to see it.
I have to recommend the new book "Person of Interest" by J. Warner Wallace. Absolutely amazing and compelling book evaluating the fuse, explosion and fallout of Christ throughout history.
Thank you! Will be ordering it. I feel compelled to read that; ignorance is always an open door for the devil to blind the minds of them which understand not
Found the book very repetitive. Should have had half at least edited out! Was bored SO much, that I even didn't finish it. It was 'sold' to me as the best apologetic book. Far from it. It just looks at how history was impacted and could have been more thorough at that. The silly story in which it was told, was also insulting to intelligence. Give it 2 out of 5 stars tops.

Not only an excellent and accurate historical understanding, but the ramifications of a bodily resurrection as accounted for in the various testimonies, make for a convincing, irrefutable case for "the risen Christ". Fact. Not fiction. Thanks for your dedicated work in continuing sharing the good news message.

The argument that the followers of Jesus wouldn't have made up women as the first eye-witnesses is actually more powerful than most people realize. I've seen modern day Jews and Muslims criticize Christianity because women were the first to witness the Resurrection. In the West we don't realize how untrust-worthy women were in that time and place. If even today Jews and Muslims make this argument, how much more ridiculous would it have been for the Gospel authors to have invented it?

Right when you repeated His name a few times at around 9:10, I got an out of nowhere text message with 'Jesus' in it. :) I love these kind of moments, does anyone else have those beautiful kind of 'coincidences' that make your neckhair stand up?
Yes. When I was listening, I heard a voice in my head, this is complete bs. Does anyone else hear this voice. I like to think of it as the voice of reason.
Okay I will! You might send the same good advice to @moekiemissa5731 who wrote above, “Right when you repeated His name a few times at around 9:10, I got an out of nowhere text message with 'Jesus' in it.”
I love how they established that people living in the 1st Century AD didn't walk around as simpletons. It's the arrogance of modern society to patronise the experiences of these people, assuming that events were understood through a series of fairytales.
They were unbelievably gullible in the 1st century CE.. So are most evangelical Americans today. Living in southern Canada is like living above a holy roller tent meeting, complete with snake handling and poison drinking. Luckily evangelicals are only 8-10% of the Canadian population, too spread out to have political power, and as in America, declining because of increased education standards.
They were not simpletons. But they were credulous, superstitious, ignorant and %80-90% completely illiterate. For comparison, look at the flagrant nonsense the QAnoners claim to believe. They all have grade 10 or better. Yet they stood along the road waiting to wave at JFK Jr, come back from the dead to be Trump’s VP. If you don’t think that peasants 2000 were not as susceptible to tales of wonder as the QAnon cult today, you can give your head a shake.
If we look at the literature of contemporary educated people we find that they are superstitious and credulous and, by the standards of a 12 year old educated in a public school, ignorant. They have yet to learn the mathematical concept of zero. The educated people contemporary with the early christians are quite capable of believing all sorts of nonsense. Strabo, as reported in Plutarch, saw battles in the streets on the morning of Caesar’s assassination: the battles were between men made of fire. Nor “men on fire”, but “men made of fire”. Strabo isn’t repeating this: he says he saw it. Strabo was educated, highly literate, moved among the wealthy and powerful. Unlike the anonymous gospel writers, we know a great deal about Strabo: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strabo Just drawing from the literature of the rich, powerful and highly literate in Rome, I can show that they believed nonsense. The impoverished, ignorant, credulous, superstitious peasants who were the early Christian’s were almost all entirely illiterate. Their culture was exclusively oral. They would believe nonsense quite easily. Witness this example: in their folklore, a man put to death by Roman soldiers gets up and is seen walking three days later. This is gibberish! Lest we feel too dismissive of the credulity of our ancestors, witness the QAnoners who gathered near Dealey Plaza in Dallas from 2 November through early December 2021, wanting to be on hand to greet JFK Jr (then 12 years dead) and his father JFK (then 58 years dead) as they arrived to join Trump in taking back the White House. Some of the people gathered there did catch glimpses of Robin Williams and Princess Diana (both of them also quite dead). I think the QAnon people are foolish dupes. For the same reason I think anyone who thinks the storybook of the NT is a reliable description of historical events is a foolish dupe.
Faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in His Word, trusting in Him, and also receiving and resting on Him alone for salvation as He is offered to us in the gospel.

It's interesting when you think about this. God the father was the main force in old testament enacting the will of God. Jesus was the second. And Jesus couldn't spread the Holy Spirit if he remained on the earth.
I love his argument about the original church being completely aware of what hallucinations were. So often I hear skeptics say, "oh they were just tripping on drugs, both the apostles and the prophets". What that argument doesn't take into account is that both the ancient Israelites and the Apostles were well aware of mind altering substances and knew this was NOT that

Like many, I came to Christ while hitting a low point in my life over 30 years ago. I had the born-again experience that was overwhelming, so I knew without a doubt that God was real. Like most new Christians, I still had lots of doubts, but all of that went away with a few discoveries that were unveiled to me. The first one I learned sealed the deal. It was the code hidden in Genesis 5. Genesis 5 is a chapter that is usually skipped by most Bible readers. It is a genealogy from Adam to Noah. For those that are not familiar with it, you have to know what the meanings of the Hebrew names are. Each name has a meaning, and the list of names has a hidden message. That hidden message is the Gospel. The reason this is a slam dunk is because the Hebrew scriptures had been translated to Greek a full 300 years before the time of Jesus. You cannot call this a coincidence. You also would have a hard time making the case that Moses colluded to place the Christian Gospel in the first book of the Old Testament. This is what you call the fingerprints of God on the Biblical text. There are many other micro and macro codes within the Biblical text that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is a message from our creator outside the domains of time and space.

The Jews whose Bible that is, says there is no hidden code. I think we read into things what we want them to mean. and if you're not reading in Hebrew none of it matters anyway. the code must be present in the language the text was originally written in. Not English.
@@Daily_Dose_Of_Wisdom Due diligence - I'm jewish and an Israeli Hebrew is my mother's tongue🙏 Reading the separate 'reports' regarding the ressurection, left me all the more convinced that his so called ressurection was made up. Let me share the reasons: Where are those 500 who *Paul claimed* saw him then ?? Claiming something is easy, what are their names, where is their testimony?? In Mark's gospel - Where is that young man who sat on the right that saw him go up his father and who told the women that JC will meet his disciples in Galilee? When it is known to be fact the last 9 verses were added later ! See how Mark really ended his story: *Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.* Mark did not write anything regarding the resurrection other than what that man said. Or is it like in Matthew that says that there was an earthshake and the angel rolled the stone, sat on it said that JC will meet them in Galilee, only Jesus appears to the women on their way back and later *he appears to his disciples in Galilee.* Or is it like in Luke when the women came to the grave and it was already open, but empty. And the women saw two people (angels) who had told them he had risen. And JC revealed himself to just two, on the road to Emmaus, who didn't even know it was him until they did, who returned to Jerusalem and told the 11, and then JC appeared to the disciples. *So they didn't go to Galilee.* In John's gospel: Where it was only Mary who came to the tomb, she saw no one ! and had no encounter with JC, called two disciples, and only after they saw the tomb was really empty she got inside and saw two angels, turned around, she saw someone who she didn't even recognize was JC, *JC appeared to them in Jerusalem and then later in Galilee as well.* You really want me to draw a logical conclusion from these fairytale inconsistent stories that he resurrected ?? My favourite books by NT Wright are The Resurrection of the Son of God, Jesus and the Victory of God, and The New Testament and the People of God. He is such an amazing writer and theologian.
Great content. While there is tremendous value in showing the overwhelming evidences of Jesus' life, death, burial and ressurection, just as with every other absolute truth in life there are myriads of people who will not believe regardless of irrefutable evidences. And the bible tells us why. "He (Jesus) went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” John 6:65. That said, what this channel is doing is good and right. We don't know who the elect are, so we preach Christ to all. Uninformed people think that faith is some superstitious belief void of rationality, when we know that to be an ignorant view. It's odd how that "after" regeneration the rational evidence grows to become absolutely astounding to the believer as the Holy Spirit works in their life. Thumbs up, from a new subscriber.
I have my obvious contentions with the historicity of the resurrection, but thats not the point I care to talk about here. I have two main questions that have often bothered me that I'd be curious to hear some takes on. (don't worry this isn't an attempt at a debunk and I'm happy for people to believe in the resurrection). 1. When people say "Jesus is the most written about character in all of history", what is the emotional pull towards truth here? It seems like we would all agree that whatever the state of existence is, as a species who tell stories, *someone* was bound to be the most written about character. Another way of saying this, no matter how fast a group of runners is, someone will always come in first place. 2. The point on what's commonly called the criterion of embarrassment. This was confusing to me even as a christian. On one hand we're saying "no one would ever claim that it was women who found Jesus first, they wouldn't have believed them!" and then in the same breath we're saying "this is why its SO believable!". But like the last point, if subverting the criterion of embarrassment could have led LOADS of people to believe it for the reasons given, then that doesn't give weight to its truth. It gives weight to the idea that making a story feel more human and less "mythical" makes people more likely to believe it. Obviously these aren't the only two points that would leave someone to believe in the resurrection, but they are two points have always felt a little off to me.
Women back then weren’t opinionated. They were to be seen and not heard. Do your chores. Support the men, have babies, etc. All of a sudden they’re so excited they can’t shut up. Established norms out the window. People must’ve wondered what’s with these women?! No doubt many were disgusted by such unruly behavior. But it captured attention because it was so off the wall. Some people were undoubtedly affected by it. It only takes about 1/5 of a population to initiate an entire social paradigm shift. Good or evil.
Hello, I just wanted to respond to your point 2. I think the first eyewitness of the resurrection of Jesus being female, and disciples writing in the gospels that the testimony of witnessing the risen Christ was a testimony of women is compelling because when we look into the context of the time, it just gives further evidence (among many other things) that the disciples were not lying and just trying to create some sort of conspiracy about Jesus being resurrected. If that were the case they would NEVER claim that women were the first ones to see Jesus and that their testimony is valid. It just further debunks the idea that this was just a contrived effort of the disciples to continue their false belief about Jesus being the Messiah after He was crucified. If it was all contrived as some atheists try to say, the disciples would have NEVER taken the incredible risk of having 2 WOMEN be the first to witness Jesus… that would have been suicidal to their “scheme”. So it just demonstrates just one more reason that these accounts are reliable documents that were not contrived but were rather the TRUE account of what happened, even if the disciples thought at that time the truth that woman as the first eyewitness do not help their cause, it was the TRUTH so they proclaimed it. Understanding this context helps give more trust to the gospels that they are the true accounts and were not just a “contrived story”. If it all was just a contrived story from 2 thousand years ago, the disciples would have certainly said MEN were the first to witness Jesus because people would have actually believed them and taken them seriously. That’s what people who contrive a story do, try to make it as convincing as possible, they don’t purposely make their story less creditable. So now 2 thousand years later in light of this, we can say wow these disciples must really be sharing the true account of what was witnessed because they never would have said this if it wasn’t TRUE!
That was truly fascinating, that when Paul lists the witnesses, he leaves out the women by name (although they may be included in the “500”), and they were first! I never noticed that before. The entire case presented by the academic was brilliant.. and completely persuasive for anyone interested in Truth.

In the Roman Catholic Church... We have intimate conversations with God called " Mental Prayer ", we not only listen to God but we gaze upon His Face. Or better yet, we let God gaze upon us; we receive and bask in His gaze: We spend quite time basking in Jesus' gaze, aware of the healing, purifying & transforming power of the Holy Face of Jesus :
Regarding this topic, I have always loved that when Paul was giving his defence and belief in the resurrection before Herod Agrippa II (the grandson of Herod Antipas who was involved in Jesus crucifixion), he said "For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner." (Acts 26:26) Quite literally, Paul was saying to a Roman official in a legally binding capital punishment defense that he expected that the judging party had knowledge regarding the veracity of the resurrection. It just shows that resurrection was incredibly public as "this thing was not done in the corner."

[u]But he was killed, and all who [v]followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who [w]followed him were scattered. 38 So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or [x]action is of men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.” 40 They [y]took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them not to [z]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the [aa]Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And every day, in the temple and [ab]from house to house, they [ac]kept right on teaching and [ad]preaching Jesus as the [ae]Christ.
it's like when people say the disparities between the Gospels shows that they're obviously fake. any detective will tell you that receiving the exact same story from multiple witnesses is far more suspect than receiving disparate information.
First Century readers also knew literature, metaphor and allegory. For anyone writing in Greek, they had to read Greek, Greek literature and were familiar with literary tropes, which the Gospels are full ... guiding stars, water turned to wine, dead, risen and exalted figures. Greek literature is replete with these. There is a difference between "history" and "literature," but there were also examples of over-lap. Dead and risen figures happen in literature. Not history. The majority of Jews knew to avoid the Gospels altogether. Even the "logos" that appears in the opening of the Gospel of John is not a mere "particle" of speech, but a Greek "philosophical concept" ... And the only way for a Greek philosophical concept to be walking around Nazareth in robe and sandals is through pure fiction. The Gospels were an antidote to two Jewish revolts, and offered Jews a religious means for complete assimilation within the Greco-Roman world. That was its most practical application. Meaning that there was nothing left of Jewish identity, once any Jew became a Christian. The new Christian faith was also connected to trade guilds, which met in homes, and provided a stage-gate to employment. If a Jew identified with the death of Jesus, it allowed his Jewish "identity" to be believed "absorbed" within that death, while identifying with the resurrection allowed a metaphorical identification with "assimilation." You die a Jew and are "reborn" a member of the larger Greco-Roman world. Other ethnic groups adopted Christianity for the same reason. The First Century historical context is "assimilation." Christianity is an imperialist religion created for an imperialist paradigm, with imperialist aims ... unity, assimilation and less ethnic strife. It is imperialist, top-down, patriarchal and out of step with bottom-up democracy. The idea that a religion's goal is to get the entire world to believe in one God is as far removed from democracy's goal as any religion could possibly be. Christianity offers an ancient myth so far out of step with the 21st Century, it is not only losing traction ... it is fading with every passing decade.
Interesting and informative session, also having some answers to Christian and non Christians skeptics and critics. Another addition to this is the fact they believed in him unto very excruciating death; some crucified, some stoned, maimed etc which is strongly out of human characteristics to diberaberately put themselves in harms way. The death of our Lord Jesus Christ would have discouraged them or make them more mindful but they became stronge, even challenging the the belief and practice of Judaism and also travelling all over the world undermining the risks, likes of Apostle Paul etc Other sects before them or after has fizzled out. The name of Jesus Christ is doing great wonders, miracles and supernatural happenings all over the world since then and still counting per seconds. So many scientific discoveries today are corellating daily discoveries with what was written or spoken by Jesus Christ thousands of years ago in the bible. The listings are endless. To this end, God is not a man he should lie and His ways are not our ways, all we need to do is fulfilling His Will and Purpose for us, , worship him for no man can phantom Him because He is Almighty Father, uncreated and unsearchable. Stay blessed 🙏✌

What always gets me is the fact that his disciples were tortured and brutally murdered for spreading the gospel and that’s not something that you would do for a lie. They had nothing to gain from a worldly standpoint, but lost everything to share Jesus with others.
I agree with you but even Muslims sacrifice themselves in the name of their idol. There are instances in history of people being willing to die for a lie.
@@willscott596 But the difference is that these people think that a lie is the truth. Nobody is willing to die for something they KNOW to be a lie. The apostles died for something they KNEW was the truth.
@@willscott596 that is a powerful testimony for any belief. I don’t know the people you’re referencing, but I guess off the top of my head the ways to verify whether their sacrifice was for the one true God would be to look into whether those people were reported as doing miracles, whether their ministries were successful, whether they were walking a holy and upright life (which comes from the power of God alone and not from the efforts of man, or it glorifies man and not the creator), and if their confessions of faith were prophetic in nature then whether those prophecies were fulfilled. Without looking into it too much, I think it would be possible to say each these things of the disciples.
Show me where they were tortured and killed, outside of James. You have to consult Fox book of Martyrs to do it and we have no idea if those stories are true. they are legends.
@@curious011 I’m sure that those who wrote Fox Book of Martyrs did their research, and that if you were to show one source that disputed the apostles deaths, a person could show two sources where it is corroborated. Especially because if any apostles had given up their testimony, even under torture, the many enemies of early Christianity would have jumped on it and widely circulated it to discredit them. But there isn’t any account of the twelve recanting their belief in Jesus or in His resurrection. But really that’s not what’s important. The real question is, even if you had undeniable proof of their sacrifice, would that be enough for you to believe? What would be enough for you to believe? If you look into who Jesus says He is, He is more than just a great teacher, and He’s more than just a prophet. He calls himself the son of God. Anyone looking into the accounts of the Bible is able to find that there is more than enough evidence to say that these things did happen. In fact that’s how many men smarter than all of us here have come to faith. But if you’re really looking for the ultimate source, why don’t you go to the ultimate source Himself? Just pray the words, “I’m addressing the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, are you real? Is Jesus truly the son of God?” You can do it more informally too, He will meet you where you’re at. And then He will either answer you powerfully in your life or you can pick up a Bible and allow Him answer your prayers word for word. He has answered my prayers through the scriptures word for word many times and about all sorts of things. Good luck!

Thank you for discussion where WT Wright gives what is in my humble thoughts, an 'Apologia' for the resurrection, as this is the unique feature that separates every other world religion from Christianity. This presentation quantifies & qualifies our belief in Yeshuah ha Messiah, when He stated, "If I be lifted up, I will draw all men un to me". a retrospect of one event in Jerusalem, 2000 years ago, The Resurrection, continues to invade the hearts & minds of thousands upon thousands in China India, Iran & many other parts of the ME, because He alone carried the Travellers report. He came back from the Dead and showed Himself to more than 500 people who were then willing to die, be persecuted, lit as human torches, from Paul the Apostle to Ridley & Lattimer in 15 Oct 1555, to millions to date will never deny the Resurrection, because we believe (Emunah - Hebrew for Faith) in the risen Messiah, Period
I love the lyric that starts the Elevation Worship song Rattle. Saturday was silent, surely it was through….the Apostles told their stories complete with how the men were cowering in the Upper Room and only John was present, along with the women, at the Resurrection.
Beyond the Believers who witnessed Christ after His Resurrection, on Pentecost, The Holy Spirit came down to them and fortified their Belief. Only The Holt Spirit can truly convict you of you sins and point you to our Savior, Jesus Christ. THAT is how Christianity has spread then and now!

In August 1984. I cried out to Jesus Christ, using the word Jesus as I asked Him to take me back and be my friend. I just said " if you will take me back, and be my friend, I will serve you for the rest of my life.". I was changed from struggling to figure out the next day and hour and dollar and everything else like that, in this day to day life. I became obsessed by the Bible, talking about Jesus to everyone I knew, wanted to be in church frequently, and now I am almost 65, and am waiting every day for the Rapture, waiting on God every day. I know that Jesus Christ is alive and well. I have served Him for 39 years, and I know what happened when I was 25. I invite you to take God seriously. Now, today. I was immediately changed into someone focused on Him, which has never changed.
My religious mother-in-law prayed to God to stop her husband's pain from dying with colon cancer. He spent another two weeks in agony before dropping to under five stones in weight and finally losing his fight for life. She then lived twenty years in the belief that she would meet her husband in heaven but fell victim to dementia, forgetting everything and everyone she had ever known and loved before finally forgetting how to eat and drink. God at work.........?
@@fabianmckenna8197Yes. God is at work in your life, because you saw the love of God in their lives. But now, because they suffered & died, you are questioning God. Are you aware that God's forgiveness & love is still available to you, or living in anger & self-pity? He is the same before & after these things happened- and He is Good, all of the time. He doesn't deserve our blame & judgement. As a energetic Christian, I blamed God after a friend & her young daughter were killed in a car wreck. I was really angry. "How could You let this happen? You could have made her see the 18 wheeler & avoid it". But, when I realized that we are all subject to pain & death in this life and I saw that I was always selfishly asking of Him & not really serving Him, my perspective changed. This changeless & Holy God created everyone & everything. We get to live in His world. I had the a very small Christian heart- the size of the Grinch. But, like in the story, it grew & grew & grew that day. Scripture states that God causes all things work TOGETHER for good for those who love Him & are called according to His purpose. God will use even our tragedies for good if we let Him. Will you? To discover more, read, or read again, about Jesus in the gospels.

@6:30 time mark approx. Mr. Wright's frame of reference seems to run strongly to non-Jewish traditions, as also revealed in his public comments antagonistic to Rapture doctrine. Here, wright refers to the women witnessing Resurrection evidence, first at empty tomb, then with Jesus in person, as being "in the half light of an early morning" The start of the Jewish day is after sundown. As a historian, claiming expertise on this subject, this is not a minor "slip".
What baffles me is the idea that most people think they are in some way smarter or more skeptical in our age than those of past times. You would need great conviction to do the things the disciples did, and and doing it for something that would sound so absurd to believe, why would you do that if it was a lie? They didn’t gain wealth, they were persecuted by the state for it, they didn’t fight physically to defend their interests or beliefs, they were killed brutally, some boiled in hot oil, all for a lie, that doesn’t glorify them, but another person who died years ago?
My question is, who are these people who died for their convictions? Name them. People crashed an airplane full of gas into a building. I bet the temperatures were very high so high that it compromised the structural integrity of the building, and it collapsed. For what you might ask? A belief. No wealth gained, no fame and all for the belief in a guy that died many more years ago.
Hit it right on the head. Listen to these folks in the video talking. In their own head they are are wisest and smartest people on the planet. They are a microcosm for a much larger problem. These people and their ilk are the new idols.
@Jarnvir No. It is very simple NT Wright's argument, with all his accolades, boils down to a very weak argument that lacks evidence. "They really really believed it, it must be true."
@@MarkRichardson-wu6oq Nice try but wrong! But the WTC attack was an act of war/revenge on a perceived enemy, not death for (or to advance) a belief! That's a very different thing and very common and widespread! Every army and insurgency since the dawn of time has had an element of that. Problem with analogies is they need to be correct.
@mandatusnovum7127 First, you are the one wrong. They were willing to blow themselves up for their beliefs and they did. There are many more examples of this behavior. WTC was one of many. At the end of the day, the fact is that willing to die for their beliefs only prove that they were willing to die for their beliefs and nothing else.
Edit: I'll just leave the following quote here:
"According to Jacob Kremer, a New Testament critic who has specialized in the study of the resurrection: 'By far most exegetes hold firmly to the reliability of the biblical statements about the empty tomb.' In fact in a bibliographical survey of over 2,200 publications on the resurrection in English, French and German since 1975, Habermas found that 75 percent of scholars accepted the historicity of the discovery of Jesus' empty tomb."
@@madmax2976 Wow, you're definitely better than the majority of scholars
I’ll say this again. The single most demonstrable miracle we have today is the fact that Jesus said His gospel would be preached to all the nations. Here we are.

@@patk3601 I agree absolutely. If you were to ask me, I crucified Christ, in that He died for my sins, as much as anyone else’. Our sins were the reason he was crucified. 1 Timothy 3:16

There is no evidence Jesus existed let alone rising from the dead.

I love how they established that people living in the 1st Century AD didn't walk around as simpletons. It's the arrogance of modern society to patronise the experiences of these people, assuming that events were understood through a series of fairytales.
They were unbelievably gullible in the 1st century CE.. So are most evangelical Americans today. Living in southern Canada is like living above a holy roller tent meeting, complete with snake handling and poison drinking. Luckily evangelicals are only 8-10% of the Canadian population, too spread out to have political power, and as in America, declining because of increased education standards.
True
Unlike the anonymous gospel writers, we know a great deal about Strabo:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strabo
Just drawing from the literature of the rich, powerful and highly literate in Rome, I can show that they believed nonsense.
For the same reason
I think anyone who thinks the storybook of the NT is a reliable description of historical events is a foolish dupe.
"Faith is an act of confidence, and therefore an act of the heart." - Lacordaire

I love his argument about the original church being completely aware of what hallucinations were. So often I hear skeptics say, "oh they were just tripping on drugs, both the apostles and the prophets". Yes, I know quite a few Chaplains and Pastors who don't even care for N.T. Wright. There are a few things he writes and has said that I even disagree with.
Wait, really? So how would I find the meaning of the names?: Just google it or? Is there any specific context for the names to be researched?
@@DepravityWriting..yep. Google 'genealogy Genesis 5' That easy.
@@DepravityWritingAdam: (adomah) “man”
Seth: “appointed” (Genesis 4:25)
Enosh: (from root anash, “to be incurable”) “mortal,” “frail,” “miserable”
Kenan: “sorrow,” “dirge,” “elegy”
Mahalal’el: “the Blessed God” - (mahalal) “blessed”; (El) the name of God
Jared: (from the verb yaradh) “shall come down”
Enoch: “commencement” or “teaching”
Methuselah: “his death shall bring” - muth, a root that means “death”; shalach means “bring” or “send forth”
Lamech: “despairing” (from which we get “lament” or “lamentation”)
Noah: (derived from nacham) “comfort” or “rest” (Genesis 5:29).
Then, if we want to add Noah's mentioned sons:
Shem: "name" or "fame"
Ham: "to be hot", "to protect" or "to surround".
Japheth: "he extends", "beautiful"
The Jews whose Bible that is, says there is no hidden code. I think we read into things what we want them to mean. and if you're not reading in Hebrew none of it matters anyway. the code must be present in the language the text was originally written in. Not English.

Due diligence - I'm jewish and an Israeli Hebrew is my mother's tongue🙏
Reading the separate 'reports' regarding the ressurection, left me all the more convinced that his so called ressurection was made up.
Let me share the reasons:
Where are those 500 who *Paul claimed* saw him then ?? Claiming something is easy, what are their names, where is their testimony??
In Mark's gospel - Where is that young man who sat on the right that saw him go up his father and who told the women that JC will meet his disciples in Galilee?
When it is known to be fact the last 9 verses were added later !
See how Mark really ended his story:
*Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.*
Mark did not write anything regarding the resurrection other than what that man said.
Or is it like in Matthew that says that there was an earthshake and the angel rolled the stone, sat on it said that JC will meet them in Galilee, only Jesus appears to the women on their way back and later *he appears to his disciples in Galilee.*
Or is it like in Luke when the women came to the grave and it was already open, but empty. And the women saw two people (angels) who had told them he had risen. And JC revealed himself to just two, on the road to Emmaus, who didn't even know it was him until they did, who returned to Jerusalem and told the 11, and then JC appeared to the disciples. *So they didn't go to Galilee.*
In John's gospel:
Where it was only Mary who came to the tomb, she saw no one ! and had no encounter with JC, called two disciples, and only after they saw the tomb was really empty she got inside and saw two angels, turned around, she saw someone who she didn't even recognize was JC, *JC appeared to them in Jerusalem and then later in Galilee as well.*
You really want me to draw a logical conclusion from these fairytale inconsistent stories that he resurrected ??
Pleaseee.

This was fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing this message. Praise God!!

One of the most compelling ideas I’ve heard and its so simple: Christianity wouldn’t exist if Jesus didn’t rise from the dead
Good point, even those who walked with Jesus had a hard time believing he was ‘The Son of God’
So not only does Christ die as a man for our sins, but he returns in three days to prove his point….
Acts 5: 32 And we are witnesses [s]of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Gamaliel’s Counsel
33 But when they heard this, they were cut [t]to the quick and intended to kill them. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. 36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. [u]But he was killed, and all who [v]followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who [w]followed him were scattered. 38 So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or [x]action is of men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.”
40 They [y]took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them not to [z]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the [aa]Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And every day, in the temple and [ab]from house to house, they [ac]kept right on teaching and [ad]preaching Jesus as the [ae]Christ.
yet there is not one shred of evidence that He rose. Not one anywhere outside of the Bible.

Another addition to this is the fact they believed in him unto very excruciating death;
some crucified, some stoned, maimed etc which is strongly out of human characteristics to diberaberately put themselves in harms way.
The death of our Lord Jesus Christ would have discouraged them or make them more mindful but they became stronge, even challenging the the belief and practice of Judaism and also travelling all over the world undermining the risks, likes of Apostle Paul etc
Other sects before them or after has fizzled out.
The name of Jesus Christ is doing great wonders, miracles and supernatural happenings all over the world since then and still counting per seconds.
So many scientific discoveries today are corellating daily discoveries with what was written or spoken by Jesus Christ thousands of years ago in the bible.

Good luck!
I really enjoy your channel and find that your research is top tier from most the other similar channels...I am a Messianic believer and although I am not Hebrew or Jewish attend synagogue on Shabbat and have been attending for almost 1 1/2 years. Our Rabbi's do not call Him Jesus but rather Yeshua (meaning pf this name is Salvation). Perhaps you can address this in one of your follow-on episodes. Yeshua Bless you and your loved ones.
Doesn’t really matter that much. The New Testament authors didn’t have problems writing down the Greek name Ιεσους.
Christianity is NO SECULAR history! REAL CHRISTIANITY IS NOW!
Paul as I, have experienced the Risen of Christ! And his resurrection!
And I Am HE!
Oh wonderful great counsellor, thank you for stitching the wounds in my heart so that I could be circumcised with hope. Thank you for allowing me, a sinner, to know you. Thank you for making me braver each day to rejoice in you. I was blind but now I see. You are the only God. Our salvation is in you and you alone. Praise Jesus. All glory to God and God alone. Amen 🙏✝
Praise Lord Jesus Christ❤thank you for this.
"Then sing my soul , my Saviour God, to You, how Great You are!"
Alan Jackson does a fabulous rendition of this song! I play it all the time❤
Amen! Thank you for your ministry! :)
When I hear of resurrection, I feel worrisome! Fear and dread mostly!
Love it Brandon, bringing the truth as always. Appreciate your work brother.
What truth ?

This is a fantastic channel, I really enjoy it
God bless you brother 🙏
I love the lyric that starts the Elevation Worship song Rattle. Saturday was silent, surely it was through….the Apostles told their stories complete with how the men were cowering in the Upper Room and only John was present, along with the women, at the Resurrection.
One of your best contents plus one of your best closing from yourself. So many thanks from Germany!
Amen and praise God. That was very encouraging. Appreciate your content 😊
Daily dose of wisdom - you've done good. God bless you and your message
Amen! Thank you brother🙏
The disciples not only believed Jesus to be risen, they KNEW Jesus to be risen! There eyes beheld him and they touched and handled him!
Thank you for your content! God bless you 🙏🏼🥰

Those that abuse capital letters not only emphasise nothing but the hysteria of the abuser, but tell all the world that the abuse of the abuser is not limited to abusing capital letters. You do not persuade anyone of anything by shouting at them like a raving lunatic.
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.
This channel is food for the soul
2000 years later we’re truly believers of the most act of love perform by JESUS!
Amen brother. Christ is lord. Thank you for your work, god bless you
Wow! Thank you for your amazing work. God is truly working through you. God bless you, brother! ❤️✝️
Using the name Jesus, yes! Romans 10:13
@@pebble100c Naah...... No God in my life and I've nothing that needs forgiveness unless of course you're thinking of the "original sin"
Always amused when my Catholic sister-in-law heads off to confessions for her weekly diatribe with the priest and returns forgiven for all her sins. Doesn't stop her doing it all over again.
A bit like murderers who receive forgiveness before a death sentence is carried out allowing them to spend eternity in heaven next to their victims....... Strange one that.
My heart is for the seeker, my heart is for the skeptic. I like that and your channel.
LOVE this one.❤
Thank You for such high quality content, I really love this channel 🙏
@mandatusnovum7127
First, you are the one wrong. They were willing to blow themselves up for their beliefs and they did. There are many more examples of this behavior. WTC was one of many.
At the end of the day, the fact is that willing to die for their beliefs only prove that they were willing to die for their beliefs and nothing else.
Thank you and God Bless and Protect you and everyone Forever in Jesus Christ, for He is Alive🙏❤️
