  • 700 years before Christ His life, death and resurrection were written about in detail.
This passage of Isaiah, called by some "the heart of the Bible", is a profound demonstration of the truthfulness of Jesus the Messiah and a verification of the Bible as God's word.

@@VaughanMcCue Hard to answer your question, it depends on the person and his background/beliefs. It really differs, sometimes i witness to atheists and sometimes to muslims or ignorant christians which don't believe that the Bible is the word of God.

No joke brother: blind people will automatically put up their defenses, choosing only to reject, and regurgitate what their elders say, instead of actually listening and thinking for themselves. I pray for so many that just attack what you say instead of using logic, and actually reasoning out the truth. May God soften their hearts and open their eyes that they find the truth and are saved before destruction.

The carbon dating of the Isaiah scroll from the Dead Sea scrolls puts it in a range from about 350 BC to about 100 BC. Therefore, despite the controversy surrounding the multiple authorship of the Book of Isaiah, the prophecy concerning the Messiah was still written long before Jesus Christ was born, so its a true prophecy. One nice explanation for the multiple authorship is that it was Isaiah's disciples who were writing for him, writing what he would say and prophesy, hence the differences that are evident between different chapters in the book.

Aprel indeed God has blessed you if it is to Mike where He led you. As a someone who studied the bible at length _and then_ went into the world of YT to find good expositors, I can fully agree that Mike is a blessing of a good teacher... but _only_ because his explanations are grounded in the full counsel of the scriptures. There are plenty of witty, engaging teachers out there who make sense, cite scripture, break things down clearly and simply, but will lead you directly to hell... beware, itching ears are endemic with new Christians. Study your scriptures alone with God. Test the things any preacher teaches according to the full deposit of the faith and your own study. If then and only then you find the teacher is consistent with what The Lord has shown you in your study of His word, then applaud that teacher... in this case, I agree, your applause of Mike Winger is warranted. Praise be to God for everything in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Hidden Hebrew Codes in Isaiah 53:
Messianic Rabbi Yacov Rambsel wrote 2 books:
‘Yeshua: the name of Jesus revealed in the Old Testament’
    and
    ‘His Name is Jesus’
In these books he showed how God hid messages (using acrostics and ELS) all throughout the Old Testament - like a divine watermark within the text.
Within the following verses of the Hebrew text of Isaiah 53 he found:
    53:10
Starting with the sixth to last yod (the second Hebrew letter yod in the Hebrew word ‘ya’arik’), counting every 20th letter from left to right, spells:
YESHUA SHMEE = YESHUA IS MY NAME.
    53:8
Starting with the second letter in the sixth word, counting every 15th letter from left to right, spells:
    LET HIM BE CRUCIFIED
    53:11
Starting with the fifth letter in the ninth word, counting every 20th letter from left to right, spells:
MA ’AL YESHUA SHMEE OHZ = EXCEEDINGLY HIGH YESHUA IS MY STRONG NAME
    53:11
Starting with the first mem (the first letter in the first word), counting every 42nd letter from left to right, spells:
    MASHIACH = MESSIAH
    53:6
Starting with the third letter in the eleventh word, counting every 47th letter from right to left, spells:
NAZARENE (Matthew 2:23 Jesus shall be called a ‘Nazarene’)
    53:5
Starting with the seventh letter in the fifth word, counting every 20th letter from right to left, spells:
NER JEHOVAH = LAMP OF JEHOVAH (John 8:12 - Jesus said I am the Light of the world)
    53:10
Starting with the third letter in the second word, counting every 52nd letter from right to left, spells:
    CROSS
Also - Starting with the first letter in the same word, counting every 104th letter from right to left, spells:
    PASSOVER

I presume that you are an evangelical christian and you believe in the doctrine of the trinity and vicarious atonement but not doing good works then you also believe as long as a man who rapes and murders your daughter and then repents and later on sin the same sin or a man rapes and murders your sister and then repents and later on sin the same sin or a man rape and murders your mother and then repents and later on sin the same sin or rapes and murders your wife and then repents and later on sin the same sin and evangelical christian still believes in the doctrine of the trinity and also believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for his sins that he will be forgiven and will go to heaven and despite continuing to rape and murder innocent people but will still go to heaven as he still believe in the doctrine of the trinity and also as long as he still believes that Jesus died on the cross because you believe that this man is your evangelical christian brethren who you will embrace him but you also believe that good works are just like dirty rags according to your apostle Paul as your apostle Paul also said that faith alone believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins they you are forgiven and will go to heaven is your only salvation.
According to christian evangelical theology, good works are the consequence of salvation and not its justification. They are the sign of a sincere and grateful faith. They include actions for the Great Commission, that is, Christian evangelism, service in the Church and charity. So Good works is a consequence but not a necessity for christian evangelical salvation. That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. ~Romans 10:9-10 You cannot be saved by your good works, because no matter how hard you try, your “good” is not good enough for the perfectly holy and completely righteous God who alone grants salvation. Nor can you be saved by your moral perfection-no matter how moral or how perfect you are. As the Old Testament prophet Isaiah points out, your righteousness is about as good as a “snot rag”. (Isaiah 64:6 ). I have actually cleaned that up a bit, because the Hebrew phrase for filthy rags, ukabeged ehdim, literally means, “like as rags of menstruation.”
Sorry if that disgusts you, but it’s Scripture-so blame Isaiah. The point is, both our acts of righteousness, and the quality of righteousness that we hope they produce, are disgusting to God. So if you are disgusted by Isaiah’s language, think of how God, who inspired Isaiah to choose those coarse words, is repulsed by our efforts to get him to save us. So what hope, then, is there for our salvation? Well, frankly, no hope resides within us. None whatsoever. Ephesians 2:1 says “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.” That’s how hopeless we are apart from God’s work to save us. You see, all a dead person can do is lay there and be dead, let alone try to be righteous before God.

I was going through a rough time in 1984. On my way home from work on March 20, 1984 I had this beam of light on the hood of my car. I looked up and saw the Arm of God coming out of the clouds from this beam of light. Fast forward about 10 months later my life was better and I was praying...Lord you have done so much for me. I never want to forget your gift of seeing your Arm and take you for granted. At that moment a voice said to me Isaiah 53:1. I had no idea that was there. ❤

Chapter 53 in Isaiah talks about the Jewish people, is what is easily understood by reading chapter 52, he talks about the servant of God, and throughout the book of Isaiah who is called the servant of God is the Jewish people, just read.
It is correct to read the book as a whole, it is not correct to read an isolated chapter, not least because in the original there are no divisions by chapter, in the original, chapters 52 and 53 are read together.
the division of the bible into chapters was made in the 13th century by Stephen Langton (Cardinal of the Catholic Church and Archbishop of Canterbury), the original texts have no division by chapter, so Isaiah 52 and 53 have always been read together, only after the 13th century did the church put this division into chapters, they don't want to read the whole text, they want you to read what they say.

Mike, As someone who grew up in the church and had a rigorous commitment to staying consistent, I came to realize that it doesn't matter what modern rabbis say or what ancient ones do concerning biblical passages, but in fact only that context is key and that there is absolutely no reason to apply a futuristic Christian prophecy to Isaiah since the suffering servant as the remnant of Israel in captivity already makes sense within the broader context of Isaiah.

    • @MikeWinger
      @MikeWinger  7 років тому +6

+Joshua Daniel I agree that context is key. How do you reconcile the contextual indications that the suffering servant can't be Israel? Specifically that the text constantly juxtaposes who "He" is with how Israel has behaved. "He is wounded for our transgressions". Look at this verse in particular and see if it can be reconciled with the view that the suffering servant is Israel.
“He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.”

If "he" was stricken for the transgression of Isaiah's people then "he" can't be Isaiah's people.

    • @joshuadanielrocks
      @joshuadanielrocks 7 років тому +1

Mike, I'm not sure if I'll have enough typing space to show all of the supporting verses, but I hope that you will indulge the broad overview of my argument for a moment.
The suffering servant is not all of Israel but those that were "cut off' from the people. Just that remnant of the Babylonian captivity (the portion of Israel that was exiled). This makes more sense in the broader theme of Isaiah as well as would make sense to the initial readers. Also, missed by most Christians, let me draw your attention to the tense of the verses. They are in the past. For Isaiah it has already taken place. Prophetic future language is absent in this set of verses. There are no "he will be" types of language here.
Here is one of many major proof texts that I think will help shed light on the context.
Isaiah 48:20 - "Leave Babylon, flee from the Babylonians! Announce this with shouts of joy and proclaim it. Send it out to the ends of the earth; say, "The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob (Israel)."
Notice Babylon and The servant Israel - So it is my contention that both applying this to Jesus by the Christian community, and, or a Jew using this as a portent to some future messiah strains Isaiah 53 out of it poetic context.
It is my hope that you will try to read this set of verses again in light of this interpretation. I look forward to discussing Biblical and theological issues with you more. Thank you for the opportunity.

Please be patient with me as, in total honesty, my schedule is just full and I'd like to devote an hour or so of time to gathering quotes in context and giving a reasonable case for how I don't think we can view this suffering servant as the deported portion of Israel. Thank you!

    • @joshuadanielrocks
      @joshuadanielrocks 7 років тому

Mike, I believe that you will be confronted by something you'll have to wrestle with a bit after you do some exhaustive research on this issue. You'll undoubtedly find commentaries by Christian scholars, and Jewish ones for that matter, that will agree that the original and first meaning of Isaiah 53 is indeed as I have already argued. It was after the fact that it gained a secondary interpretation as a Messianic figure for Israel. I'm sure I don't have to spell out for you why and how that could potentially be problematic for Christians, but I will offer some aspects of the dilemma after I get your response. Just know that part of my goal in this is to deeply educate believers about issues that their Christian community has not apprised them of. Most of the critiques and apologetic responses out there are just talking points. I assure you that a comprehensive look at the real issues will ultimately challenge the way you look at your faith. More on all that later.
As an aside, As a fellow musician, I really enjoyed listening to your original praise music.

    • @MikeWinger
      @MikeWinger  7 років тому +8

Thanks for your patience, I have far too many good conversations and not enough time to pursue them all. This is a bit of a difficult issue to try and handle in a YT comment section but I’m going to try and address the most important parts here. I’ll number them for easy reference.
1- The term “cut off” can mean a couple different things but the term “cut off from the land of the living” can only mean actual physical death. This is one reason why it can’t refer to the remnant of Israel in Babylon. They were not killed (or none would have been around to return afterward). I’ll quote the verse in question here…
Isaiah 53:8 “He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.”
This shows a significant problem with your interpretation of the remnant as those who were “’cut off’ from the people”. Notice that you didn’t quote it correctly. The suffering servant in Isaiah 52-53 is NOT said to be “cut off from the people” but “cut off from the land of the living. This alone disqualifies your interpretation. See Isaiah 38:11 for confirmation that the “land of the living” is certainly not some reference to the land of Israel or do a word search in the Bible for “land of the living” to see that it means exactly what it sounds like.
2- The suffering servant of Isaiah 52-53 is an individual, not a group of people. This is clear in the context of the passage. Now, you may say “but isn’t Israel spoken of as an individual at times” and the answer is yes. But that doesn’t meant THIS passage can be taken to mean Israel for the following reasons.
      a. Israel is identified in the passage already and is contrasted with the servant
      b. Israel is spoken of in this very passage as a group of people, over and over again, and is not referenced as an individual in any obvious way. The use of consistent group and plural terms for Israel vs the singular terms for the servant indicate a person is in view.
      c. The term for the individual “My servant” is not a term used of Israel exclusively. It is used, in Isaiah, of Isaiah, Eliakim, Israel and an unknown character. When it is used of Israel the text very consistently adds qualifiers to make it clear that it is Israel. Perform a word search on “My servant” to see this consistently.
      d. Since you brought up interpretations by others I will respond that the earliest and most authoritative Jewish interpretations agree that this passage is speaking of an individual and not a group. It is only in the last 1,000 years, as a response to Christianity, that general Jewish opinion has shifted on this.
3- Isaiah’s suffering servant is one who is wrongly suffering on behalf of the sins of others. This is not the case with those who are in captivity. They are carried away for their own sins as an act of judgment, not because they are innocently being carried away for other guilty Israelites. If you try and think this through it becomes even more impossible. If the remnant in Babylon are suffering for those who were not carried away then there is a problem. The ones who were not carried away were killed, not saved! This is hardly “chastisement for our peace” when the one chastened is carried away for their own sin and the one who is supposed to get peace is instead slain in judgment.
4- Isaiah doesn’t separate the people of Israel into the two categories you need to make your case. You need their to be a guilty group of Israelites who are helped by the an innocent group (“My Righteous Servant”) who suffers for what the first group did. Isaiah doesn’t give these two groups to us as a starting point. Instead he groups all of Israel (those slain and those in captivity) into one broad category of “all we like sheep have gone astray”
5- The method of this Servant’s impact is sacrificial death that results in a “sprinkling” of many nations (52:15). Israel has never qualified for such. In fact, Isaiah speaks quite negatively and universally of the guilt of the people.
6- If the servant is to be merely a portion of Israel then the “we” must also be only a portion of Israel but there are no such qualifiers in the text. The passage is obviously a national “we” and a singular “he” contrasted. I just don’t see how you can justify a different interpretation without mangling the meaning of the text. Joshua, you seem really convinced that if I were to just think these things though I would see the folly of my faith. But so far you have not offered a good reason to doubt my understanding of the passage. I don’t have time to continue down broad paths of conversation in my comments section so I will leave the ball in your court with two thoughts.Isn’t it true that “if” Isaiah is talking about a messianic figure then Jesus seems to have fulfilled it?If you want to rebut me can you offer a truly focused and significant point which genuinely undermines this prophecy? I ask for one point because several are too hard to follow in comments and because I want it to be a point which you are personally committed to rather than a “gotcha” which you won’t care about if it’s proven wrong. Sincerely,
      Mike

bud ekins, your insult of the Jewish community is only exceeded by the foolishness of your comment. The verse never even says a man of sorrows. It says a man of pains. & yes, a man is referred to as a nation Jacob is a man. Israel is a man. Yet both are the nation.

I don't think Jesus would be decidedly "ugly" in physical appearance, but rather, nothing about Him is especially appealing. Probably, just average looking. Because, even ugly can draw attention. Now, that could be my own conditioning, but, it seems to fit what the scripture is saying. You wouldn't be able to pick Him out of a crowd, there is nothing about His appearance that would draw attention to Him for appearances sake.
I do agree that they shouldn't use a male model to play Him. Just find an average looking Jewish man that you wouldn't remember 10 minutes after the movie ended.
I think what it's trying to convey is that He didn't have a following because He was good looking and/or regal. That's probably all it is telling us.

Jaykob Seiler my question to you is this- Claiming that Jesus was trying to convinced everyone that he was sent by god and that he was the messiah- then prophesied that he will die and 3 days later he will rise again- THEN WHY didn’t he go back to every one who doubted him and proved to everyone that he rose from the dead and redeemed all the believers and destroyed all the none believers? What was the point of him dying then rising if he wasn’t going to stick around?

What was the point of Jesus dying?
Jesus died to make an atonement for our sins. He bore our sins upon him so that now instead of requiring the blood of goats, bulls, and other animals to temporarily cleanse us from our sins, we are now cleansed by his blood that he offered for us. No longer do we require a sin sacrifice because Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
Isaiah 53:8(KJV) “...for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Isaiah 53: 10” ....thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin”
Isaiah 53:11”...by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.”
      Romans 5:7-11-15 KJV
[7] “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. [8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. [10] For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. [11] And not only so , but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
[12] Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: [13] (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. [14] Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. [15] But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.”
Romans 5:19 “For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”
This Bible passage is referring to how sin and death entered into the world after Adam ate of the fruit of the tree of Knowledge of good and evil that God had commanded them not to eat of, as found in Genesis 2 and 3. When they ate of the fruit their eyes were opened and they realized that they were naked. To cover their nakedness they sowed fig leaves together and hid from God. In Genesis 3:21 we find that God made “coats” or tunics of skin and clothed them. Genesis 3:21 leads us to assume that an animal had to die to make the tunics of skin to cover Adam and Eve. This animal’s death was the first death to enter into the world. It died in order to cover the sin that Adam and Eve had committed. ( I.e blood had to be shed to cover their sin).
What is interesting is that the passage in Romans states that death reigned from Adam to Moses. It is significant that it stops at Moses because it was during Moses’ time that God commanded every household in Israel to kill a lamb without blemish and to put the blood of that lamb on their door posts so that the death angel would pass over them when it struck the land of Egypt (Exodus 12) Moreover, God spoke to Moses in Leviticus about the necessary ways to perform trespass and sin offerings. Leviticus 6:6-7 KJV
[6] And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the Lord , a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: [7] And the priest shall make an atonement for him before the Lord : and it shall be forgiven him for any thing of all that he hath done in trespassing therein
      Leviticus 5:15,17-18 KJV
[15] If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the Lord ; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the Lord a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering: [17] And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the Lord ; though he wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity. [18] And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not, and it shall be forgiven him. [19]It is a trespass offering: he hath certainly trespassed against the LORD
      Leviticus 7:1-2,7 KJV
[1] Likewise this is the law of the trespass offering: it is most holy. [2] In the place where they kill the burnt offering shall they kill the trespass offering: and the blood thereof shall he sprinkle round about upon the altar. [7] As the sin offering is , so is the trespass offering: there is one law for them: the priest that maketh atonement therewith shall have it .
17: 11 saying “[11] For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
Here we see that blood needs to be shed in order to have an atonement for the soul. The ultimate price for sin is death. These verses give us insight that in order to avoid death brought on by Adam’s disobedience ( maybe not the physical, but spiritual death) there needs to be a sacrifice. In the old days the sacrifice of an animal was required, now we do not need the blood of animals because Jesus gave his soul as an atonement for sin.
In Hebrews 9:22 KJV the Bible informs us that “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Hebrews clearly depicts how prior to Jesus we had to rely on the blood of animals to be offered by the high priest once a year to cleanse us from our sins. Jesus offered his blood for us so that he could become the ultimate atonement for sin.
      Hebrews 9:1-28 KJV
[1] Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. [2] For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. [3] And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; [4] Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; [5] And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. [6] Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God . [7] But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: [8] The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: [9] Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; [10] Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. [11] But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; [12] Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us . [13] For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: [14] How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? [15] And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. [16] For where a testament is , there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. [17] For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. [18] Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. [19] For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, [20] Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. [21] Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. [22] And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. [23] It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. [24] For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: [25] Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; [26] For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. [27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: [28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

Jesus gave a parable unto his disciples which basically addressed the question of why he would not appear to all the unbelievers for a sign after his resurrection. It was the story of Lazarus and the rich man that can be found in Luke 16:19-31
The parable goes like this “Luke 16:19-31 KJV
[19] There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: [20] And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, [21] And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. [22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; [23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. [24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. [25] But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. [26] And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. [27] Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: [28] For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. [29] Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. [30] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. [31] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”
Other sayings of Jesus further shed light to the parable of Lazarus.
One such saying can be found in Luke 24:44. Here Jesus was speaking to his disciples after his resurrection.
“[44] And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”
Another passage that sheds light to the Lazarus story is the message that Jesus gave to some of the people that were trying to persecute him one day while he taught the people.
This passage can be found in John 5:39-47.
“39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 41I receive not honour from men. 42But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. 43I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? 45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. 46For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?”
Through these stories and statements Jesus is telling the people ( and his disciples) that the old prophets, Moses and the Psalms are filled with prophecies written about him. He is saying that if they do not believe their own prophets, what good would it be to send them a man that is risen from the dead.
As such, Jesus did reveal himself to his disciples and to several of his followers after his resurrection. Then he commanded his disciples to preach the gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth beginning at Jerusalem.

      Isaiah 53:8-10 KJV
[8] … and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. [9] And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. [10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, …”
It is interesting that the prophet Isaiah writes that this servant will be taken from the land of the living and it is when the soul of this servant is made an offering for sin that the servant shall see his seed. As I stated in an earlier response, as described in the Old Testament in Genesis and Leviticus, the way to make an offering for sin was to kill an animal because the life of the flesh is in the blood. Leviticus 17:11. Therefore this servant had to die before his soul could be made an offering for sin. Based on Isaiah 53, this servant first died and then saw his seed.
In John 12:24 KJV Jesus said”
[24] Verily, verily, I say utnto you, Except a corn( can also be translated as grain) of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit (other translations translate fruit as seed.” In this statement Jesus was alluding to his death and how he had to die in order to bear fruit or seed. Thus, John 12:24 allows us to see that the seed that the prophet is talking about is a spiritual seed (followers/disciples) that this servant had. This correctly describes Jesus and his death, because it was after his death that the numbers of his followers increased dramatically and his teachings reached most of the world. NPR estimates that there are more than 2 billion Christians today. From this it would seem that Jesus did bring forth a lot of “fruit” after his death.
Psalm 22:30 KJV “[30] A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.”
Psalm 22 is regarded by many to be a Psalm referring to the Messiah. If so, then Jesus did fulfill this prophecy because currently there are millions of people worldwide that serve him.

Ok Mike, you are either lying or you haven't read the rest of the servant song. It says over and over again that the servant is Israel. No Jewish person ever said it wasn't a messianic prophecy but not about the person of the Messiah but about the time of the Messiah.
And please learn Hebrew. It doesn't say for our transgressions and for our iniquities. It says by our transgressions and by our iniquities.
And Jesus didn't suffer more than any man. Most people died on the cross in a lot more than six hours.
You are beginning with Jesus as your starting point and putting him into the middle of the story completely out of context.

This passage absolutely cannot be talking about the Jews, because they are depicted as part of the tribe of sinners who killed the servant (which we all are these sinners). "He was pierced by our transgressions, he was crushed by our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace fell on him, and by his stripes we are healed." If Isaiah was a Jew and the servant represented Israel, why did he say "our transgressions, our iniquities, our peace, we are healed"? Why didn't he say "their transgressions"?
Furthermore Isaiah specifically names Israel in the offender group in verse 8, "For the transgressions of my people, to whom the stroke was due." Also in verse 4 when it talks about the servant being considered smitten of God, either the Jews had to be the "we ourselves" who esteemed him stricken, or they (The gentiles) would have esteemed him (Israel) smitten by another deity, for the God mentioned here is the God of the Jews, not a god of the gentiles. (Diclaimer: the word Isaiah used for God is Elohim, which normally refers to the God of the Jews, (who's Name I do not include in this post to honor Jews in not blasepheming His Name), but Elohim is also a plural word for God, and so it could be translated "Smitten by the gods". However, if that was what Isaiah was going for, he could have articulated it with Elim (The standard plural for El) instead of Elohim.)

This claim that modern rabbi's see the passage as about Israel because it's about Jesus is just not true. We do not know what ancient Jews thought about the passage, so claiming in either case is an appeal to ignorance. What scholars do is let the text stand on it's own. Who do the following versus say is the suffering servant 44:1, 44:21, 49:3? Isaiah 53 is written in the past tense. Why would a prediction for the future Messiah be written in past tense? Do you know what else follows the model of decent and ascent of a character? Almost all literature.

Isaiah 44, who has G-D named as his servant and do you think this changed in 52-53, I don't think so, here are the words of G-D. 21 Remember these, O Jacob; and Israel, for you are My servant; I formed you that you be a servant to Me, Israel, do not forget Me.

Neither does it say there will only be a single coming, so that argument gets you nowhere.

@@powningatheists7987 Actually that argument solidifies the fact that Jesus isnt the messiah.
The idea of the messiah having a second coming Is not only not found in the Jewish bible but is inconsistent with what is taught.
Once you accept the notion that a messiah can have a second coming, in order to remain consistent, anyone who has ever died can be the messiah. My grandfather who passed could be the messiah, you could tell me but your grandfather didnt fulfill any messianic criteria in his lifetime, and I can simply respond that my grandfather is going to fulfill everything in his second coming.
Following your same logic that "neither does it say there will be a single coming"
One could also say neither does it say the messiah wont have 50 comings before everything is fulfilled, neither does it say the messiah cant inform people he is the messiah, fulfill non of the messianic criteria in his lifetime, die, and then fulfill everything in his second coming. Neither doesn it say that the messiah cant live his life never telling anyone that he is the messiah, die, and then inform everyone that he is the messiah in his second coming and complete all the messianic criteria.
The same issue is present in your line of reasoning and all the other examples. The issue is that accepting the notion that the messiah can have a second coming means you cannot rule out/ falsify anyone as the messiah.
The idea of a second coming is an excuse and admission that Jesus didnt fulfill the the things the messiah was suppose to. The notion of a second coming is a Christian attempt to salvage Jesus failure to fulfill the messianic criteria necessary to be a messiah. This is one of many reasons why Jews, rightfully so, reject Jesus as the messiah
