- RAF Typhoon pilots from 1 Squadron are preparing to deploy to Romania in the next few weeks to provide the country with Quick Reaction Alert. They will take over from their Lossiemouth colleagues, 2 Squadron, who are currently there as part of NATO’s Enhanced Air Policing Mission.

Thank you for deploying your Typhoon fighters to Romania. That is a remarkably impressive aircraft. With eastern pact aircraft and vessels patrolling so close to our ally it's got to help their moral and serve as a deterrent to aggression.

@@sonampaldensherpa I agree. Our government should allow our British allies access to the F-22. Britain is such an important ally that it’s silly not to give them the option. While the Typhoon is quite capable it’s just not a 5th gen fighter.

It's beyond amazing. I first saw it at Farnborough in 2014. You had the mainstays but the Typhoon moved like a UFO. And that noise! I think they're at Goodwood this year so I'm looking forward to seeing them again :)

This is also an excellent, relatively inexpensive training opportunity.
Relative to maybe flushing a million pounds down the toilet each day.

Typhoon is standard tuned, it can be updated, but forces are very happy with it as standard.

The typhoons are always flying over my house in pairs, in the outskirts of Norwich, they’re far too loud to be doing the low altitude manoeuvres that they do phaha, respect the work they do

India has updated their mig21 aircraft to an impressive level from the start of it's capacity. Romania, if they have not already, could do the same.

Striker II helmet a BAE masterpiece as used by F35, full of computer power, the whole aircraft & battle plan in that helmet. Typhoon gets better, the updates are knockout and the engines are standard, sport ones are available. Typhoon used to be underestimated not anymore.

This operation is code-named Biloxi. This is also the name of a city in Mississippi that is home to USAF Base Keesler. I wonder if the operation was deliberately named after an allied Air Force's city, or if it was chosen by a random word generator?
Keesler AFB is home to a training squadron and some transport aircraft. Hardly an act of aggression

We actually did try to upgrade the MiG-29s to a standard of avionics and weapons systems far superior to the actual Russian ones. However, as always, crooked politicians put an end to the whole deal. Look it up, MiG-29 Sniper programme

Nato and Britain have to be in Romania no matter what, if not since Russia is rising in power and world influence, it may feel the right to flex whenever they want, and where they want, when you have that much power, you can't help but test it out every now and then to feel it! It's like putting a shotgun in your hand, your not gonna just hold it and aim at stuff, your gonna pull the trigger, cause you can and you want to know what all that power feels like! And those 4 Typhoons are like 16 Top of the Line Fighter Jets, don't let small numbers mix you up, that's where they enemies weakness lies...
Don't mess with the RAF; the last time a foreign air force decided to engage the RAF in aerial combat was during the Falklands war and I'm sure the Argentines are still recovering from the pasting they received! Total Harriers shot down:0

Don't forget those kills were against all the odds as the Argentine air force had around 250 aircrafts at their disposal while the RAF had a total of only 20 harriers! But superior training and the then totally new type of aircraft in the Harrier made all the difference!

The Royal Scots Dragoons, REME, Military Police & elements of the Army air Corp are now based at Leuchars so its not as if the bases are sat empty.
It's a shame the RAF pulled out but unfortunately no UK govt & certainly no independent Scottish govt will spend anything like the required amount on Defence.
I got to work with Romanian soldiers more than once. First time was in the US and the last in Iraq. Great guys! I get my good pension next year and intend to visit this country (again, I went there on business, but had no time to enjoy things). Any Romanians reading this: PALINKA!

Ian Simpson because it can target multiple air and ground targets at once, even though its a tranch 1 aircraft it is still a very good fighting machine, plus they have 4 in 1 sector, their are quite a few nato fast jets in various sectors along natos eastern border, so they have plenty of support if it kicks off

Russia has less than 200 modern fighters. The US Air Force, the US Navy, the US Marine Corps, and the US Air National Guard all have more combat aircraft than Russia.

The mig 21 lancer has the Israeli radar and ecm from their F16's its small RCS has enabled it to even slip past F15C's. It may be old but its small,agile and upgraded.
