Fly With RAF's Quick Reaction Alert Crews

- In this special report, Sky News gains exclusive access to the RAF's Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) squad.
Based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, the team is responsible for protecting Britain's skies and is ready to scramble, in Eurofighter Typhoon jets, at a moment's notice.
Defence Correspondent Alistair Bunkall goes inside the UK's top secret nuclear bunker and talks the pilots who would have to shoot down hostile aircraft.

Hell yeah

James May should narrate literally everything
If James May had narrated this I would not have watched it

And turks that live in germany that get paid for doing nothing wouldn‘t even want to learn german🫠
During the years of the Cold War / Post Vietnam War we (the US Military ) trained with the British military, I have so much respect for them - on the ground, in the air, and on the sea. A truly professional force.
"I was just tucking into my scrambled eggs when we got the order to scramble the planes. When I came back someone had poached my eggs."
Thats cold
Who said that?

Jack1138 It’s the old wartime question before ops, “Can I have your eggs?” 😂😂😂😂
Hate it when that happens
Having grown up in an Air Force town, it's really fun to see a peek into how the U.K. does it's air defense. And RAF Typhoons are just rad.
+Christopher Mcanally And what we see in the sky is only a fraction of what would really happen :) very exciting stuff.
yes living at the bottom of a run way is fun.
My dad was in the raf when typhoons where just coming in to service early 2000s him and squadron had to sign a order to not speak of what they saw as it has the best of the best equipment on it at the time and no one else had it. just used to love listening to night runs at 2am at raf leuchars and a lossiemouth. 🙈

That Typhoon, much like the Spitfire, is a thing of beauty.
It is a beauty, but nothing can top the Spitfire.
Apparently the F22 raptor can out manoeuvre it
@flip inheck no, thats quite likely. The f22 is more modern with better tech after all. But as long as the uk has america at its back we'll be fine
@flip inheck yes but i doubt a f22 would find itself in a dogfight with a typhoon anyway, the stealth of the f22 and long range missiles can pick off the typhoon in a long ranged engagement.
@@sphenoidjjj The Typhoon can out manoeuvre the F-22 and it did so during the Red Flag exercises several times.
So good to see people proud to be British. Regards from Australia 🇦🇺

13:01 ok that was cool af

I feel the United Kingdom have the best terrestrial and Special Forces in the word. This opinion is based my experience of 20 years in the RAF and having mingled with other military members from around the world. I live in America now and I also feel British people are generally more informed and better educated. We may not be able to effect 'full spectrum dominance' or have an annual $650 billion budget to equip us, and we may also be a nation in decline, but we do have some very well trained, very effecient and highly motivated people in the British military and we should all be very proud of the British Armed Forces, especially UKSF, who, if they are not the best (because I simply don't know) are the blue print for all SF that came after them. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇺🇸🇺🇸
My thoughts exactly
I saw tham during war in Kosivo, and after war, oecekeeping mission. From 19 countries.Brits unit was on the top,5 empty places.and second than.
There are so many heroes in the world, but they remain silent on the horror being inflicted upon us now.
I am a 4th generation American and I have met tons of arrogant foreigners believing they are more intelligent than Americans as they use all of our inventions and live under our defense umbrella. How could these uneducated people surpass the entire world in under 200 years? Educated people would like to know 😂
I'm from the US, and I have ALWAYS loved this plane. It's JUST ELEGANT and very BEAUTIFUL!!!
Well... That just proves how amazing the RAF are. 75 years on and they're still doing their job 24/7, 365 days a year. That must be amazing to be a member of,
Imagine sending one back in time to ww2. Battle of Britain would be much different.
..........would be much different ..... but only for couple of hours
The problem with sending modern equipment back in time is that modern equipment couldn't possibly be maintained back then. They would be able to fly for 20 minutes before their fuel or ammunition runs out and then they would become either useless or it would take a substantial amount of time to get them airworthy again.
Phil Brockmeyer And, as of yet we haven't invented a time machine. I think that's probably the most critical point.
The fighters then would be to slow
Think of how The Battle of Agincourt would look.
Absolutely loved my time on QRA. Some of the best days of my RAF career. Stay safe men and woman from an ex vet.

Fair play to the pilot's comments near the end of the video. I agree. In a crisis situation, proper intel and following chain of command, works better than succumbing to emotion, in the air.

by entering UK airspace uninvited and with no flight plan. Fantastic work by the RAF's QRA system.
I must admit, as much love as I have for our F-22 Raptor, there's 2 jets I love more. Not based on performance but just all around awesomeness, and that's the RAF's Eurofighter Typoon, and the FAF's Dassault Mirage 2000. For as good as the Raptor is, I feel like personally that the Typoon and Mirage are equally as good and aren't given the credit they deserve.

They don't want them to tell use their surname's. Should of though about that when filming the aircraft. Each Squadron Leader has their name on the side of their aircraft...
+minitrundle Well spotted except ... the QRA pilots aren't Squadron Leaders and since there are more pilots than planes there is no correlation between the names on the planes and the people that are flying them.
+Normal Wisdom Its still rather odd, I've never seen RAF aircrew withhold their names on any documentary or news piece. The fact that they are sitting QRA dosn't matter, the RAF has been standing QRA uninterrupted for the last 60 years - its akin to having a police officer being on the beat, its what they do.
+Normal Wisdom obviously it's dull. Sitting around waiting for an alarm is going to be dull. This guy is playing it off like they don't have an important job though by comparing them to a desk sergeant who is on call
FallenPhoenix86 Jamie Ball I don't think FallenPhoenix86 is saying that the job of fast jet pilot isn't challenging (at least I hope he isn't) just that QRA is usually one of the least challenging parts because it normally involves sitting around (or trying to sleep) waiting for something that probably won't happen. There is a lot of being a fast jet pilot that is considerably more difficult than that.
Normal Wisdom I get the logic to a degree, and have seen it elsewhere; for example active duty Israeli pilots won't generally appear on film without their faces being blurred. I've just never seen a case of RAF personnel doing this.
Classic media…. Making a big hype deal of how they don’t want to reveal the pilots’ surnames but leave them printed on the side of the typhoons 🤣🤣🤣
At 2:48 if I’m not mistaken that’s Flight Lieutenant Jon Bond, currently serving as Red 6 in the Red Arrows

I got goosebumps when the QRA alert sounded xd
My dad was ln SAC during the cuban missle crisis. 12 B52s took off from Fairchild and where refuelled in air for hours . To say he was stressed would be an understatement. My mom and me where evacuated to the mountains in idaho with a box of 3 day rations and a gallon jug each of water. Dad told me a few years ago how close we came to WW3. It was only because comms between ussr and DC were so slow it gave both sides time to think. Not like that today. Stay safe.
