A great video. I enjoy seeing all those potatoes. The babies definitely have personalities. A super lovely family. Thanks so much for sharing. Tell pop pop we are glad he is home. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Check the cow patties to see if the whole corn is passing through the cows, we used to feed 700 head of cattle and every day dad would check the patties, we would cracked the corn smaller till the Cattle would fully digest the corn
Clear plastic sheeting zip tied to the outside of the chicken pens is an easy way to keep the wind off them thus keeping them warm. p.s. I got room in my freezer for a couple turkeys! I’ll also take a bag or two of potatoes off your hands!!😅
Thank you Andrew for another great informative video, I love ❤️ your channel and how you all care for the animals you have. Those babies are growing fast as is Miss Callie. Great to see Lauren your both doing a great job with the kids will see you next time take care all ❤🇬🇧
Hi whole corn also helps cows stay warm in winter. My brothers says it isnt so good during the hot months though. We have beef and dairy cattle here. Told my brother you buy calves from the dairy farms. Well might be a new business for your beef production. Ask dairy farmers how much they charge for any cows that are no longer producing enough milk. We have huge demands for older dairy cows and we keep our own freezer stocked with their meat. It has beautiful marbling and lots of flavour. Best though to let them rest when retired so they can relax more. Improves beef quality
Andrew, Thank you for incorporating Pennsylvania farming into UA-cam video reality. Who could think and imagine that "ANYONE" would want to learn about your farming world? Seems many find your life interesting and more importantly, they see clean value in your farm's practices and produce .
You must remember egg production does reduce in autumn and winter, most chickens lay 278 days. Light can minipulate laying period.😊 It’s great to give the chickens some greens too, which you do occasionally😊 Kids are getting bigger, even their big sister.
We supply a few of our local farms and horse stables with saw dust from work. I’m glad that we support the animals they raise! I hope you guys can find a consistent source for your animals.
I was always told that the cattle cannot get the full amount of nutrients out of the corn unless it is at least cracked becaues of the outside layer of the kernal
Most Household Ovens would not hold a 34 - 38 lb. Turkey. It would also require an oversized roasting pan and probably a Food Service Convection Oven like Granny has.
I took over running the farm at 10, I didn't understand what I called my Animals were my moms To manage the Animals, I humanized them, I gave them Love and got Loved back I knew all my critters, when they saw me they would greet me and fallow me to feed them I came home from School and there was no Cows to greet me, Chickens, Pig's - the whole farm was empty Turned out Mom Sold Her Animals to free me of the everyday responsibility's (I enjoyed my time with the Animals, they made good friends to a farm kid)
I've never said this but I always love seeing the respect, care and attention you have for the cows - actually ALL the critters - on the farm. It just matters. Thank you
The ladies probably couldn't see their nest boxes to find a proper place to lay, so just sat there on the floor and laid their eggs. They couldn't see where to go in the dark. Thanks for the experiment!
Andrew I know you have to butcher the animals because that is why we have wonderful farmers like your family. I could never do that I fall in love with animals. I did enjoy the kittie you showed. Do you feed them anything , or just mice.
If you're going to feed them corn, will it be high moisture corn next year, so they can digest it more thoroughly? Or is it high moisture already this year?
Thank you for sharing thankful for your farm. Thank you Lord for the farmers blessed all their's farms with quality harvest in Jesus precious Name Amen. "Hallelujah" Amen. 😊
I was under the impression that cattle couldn't digest whole corn. Forgive me if I'm incorrect, I am not a farmer, but I've heard you guys say more than once when doing corn silage that "we have to make the sure kernel is cracked otherwise the corn will go right through them." ???
I've raised many turkeys, hens dressed out at 20 to 30 lbs and Tom's up to 50+ lbs. Never start them with turkey starter, it's too hot of a feed. Always start them with chicken starter.. And when it comes to butchering... make yourself a spoon knife, it's works so well you will not have to pluck a feather, they just fall out. My grandfather, a longtime poultry farmer always used a killing spoon. Even the pin feathers are not an issue. For more info let me know and I'll explain.
As for feeding corn to cows, the cow's stomach was not designed for grain. It was designed for grass. Yes, grass produces less marbling and takes longer to reach butchering weight, but it is better for the animals and for humans, according to a couple of studies, and some people prefer the taste of the taste of grass fed beef!! Plus, there's a market for it! Feeding cows corn to get rid of excess corn, saves money on feed, helps finish the cows up for butchering, plus the cows love it. 😆 🤣 😂
Good thing you have your own farm water supply and other than electricity to pump such, really do not buy the water which considering the leak, well, you did not have a huge expense (I know you would have searched high and low earlier if that was the true case).
Had a neighbor who raised some turkeys one year, the same neighbor I got eggs from, and the largest one was 52 pounds and she had to cut it in half to fit it in the oven. Also, she kept a few geese with her chickens because they were the best guard dogs for keeping critters away from them, I just remembered that.
I noticed the Griffin Greenhouse tape on a stack of supplies when you were showing the water line area. I live in the next town over from Griffin. My Dad had a backyard greenhouse business for about 35 years and he bought from them as well!
To do a proper experiment you have to have a control group and an experimental group at the same time on the same everything besides cracking corn. I don't like whole corn because they can't digest it. I do like cracked once corn where it isn't ground up for dust to be an issue but it is cracked so the cattle can digest it.
The old chickens figured out that if they slow down they become soup. The escapees are actually egg smugglers. Stealing from the younger chickens. Ha Ha.
So what day does work begin on the old potato harvester, so you don't have to harvest on your knees all day next year? Is it actually fixable? Will you be putting a windbreak on the new sheds for those little calves? Maybe a sheet of plywood or some tin ziptied to the gates? Everything looks great. Glad you found that water leak. I worry that the work we did on the farm 45 years ago might be coming back to bite the current occupants.
Hi, It’s good to see everyone doing well l see that Big pumpkin I can make a lot of pumpkin pie from scratch 😊Enjoy your day GOD Bless you all and yours always
That’s interesting hearing the whole corn is better than the cracked corn. I thought whole corn was less nutritional because it just goes threw the system
My dad never left the cattle out over winter. They were always brought into the barn. We have milking cows and baby beef so, the barn was full. // Did you know hens like human females only have a set number of eggs? FACT// Is there a reason you use generic potatoe bags instead of bags with your farm's name on them?
@@carolzippel5021 Wow! Typical American arrogance. I merely stated my dad put all the cows in the barn in winter and of course some arrogant American proceeds to educate me on cows being left outside in the winter in Canada. Again, I was talking about my dad not all of Canada. Talk about arrogance!
“ Quit pecking the camera chickens”😂
Omg the chickens taking selfies was hilarious.
Repetitive? NAH! I have been watching, almost since the beginning and I never get bored. 😁😁
A great video. I enjoy seeing all those potatoes. The babies definitely have personalities. A super lovely family. Thanks so much for sharing. Tell pop pop we are glad he is home. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Enjoyed every min of this video! You nailed it!
I request more chicken level cam when you're collecting eggs 😂😂
Beautiful healthy babies 🥰🥰🥰 so glad to see them doing so well and looking adorable 😊
'The Silence of the Turkeys'...Andrew rubs his belly ominously.
It’s always a bonus to get😅 to see the twins! They are developing a personality and that’s a joy to watch.

The hens heard Andrew talking about replacing them when they started slowing egg production so they're cranking those suckers out! 🤣🤣

They heard something about fried chicken 🍗

Everything is looking so good!
and then there were four turkeys. Thanksgiving is right around the corner

Without the corn not being cracked cow dont digest it all
True, we ran that experiment for the extension office. Check the poo. Whole corn kernels. Has to be cracked.
DENT corn sells for about $198 per cubic Ton in the usa!
How much of it do you want??
Did yall do something different with the potatoes this year? It seems like they produced a much larger yield.
