My dogs liver enzymes were over 2200. We tried a few after different medications with only minimal results. I started preparing this dog food recipe for my dog in addition to a daily supplement of milk thistle. It’s been 4 months since I switched to this recipe. Liver enzymes tested at 870 last blood work. I will stick with this.

my dog's liver enzymes tested were at a whooping 4000+!! I'm so shocked I don't even know how to react. I read milk thistle is one of the supplements to help with liver disease but I don't see any that states suitable for pet".. Can I know the milk thistle you got for your dog is originally for human consumption or is it specifically for pets?

I will tell you all to be careful about "veterinary recommendations." Our vet tried to sell us dry Royal Canin, which the main ingredients listed were corn, soybean, wheat, animal byproducts and the big list of garbage in that bag made us fight his wishes and leave without buying it. Be careful- Big Food is looking to profit in the pet food industry as well!

She seems to have good ideas but she’s not a veterinarian or nutritionist (veterinarians, most, know nothing of nutrition anyway), so I would always double check the recipe Accor sign to your dog’s issue. Some dogs can’t have dairy while others, like mine, can’t have eggs, and now I heard that many dogs out there are allergic to chicken. I think, from what I think I remember learning from Dr Becker, that if dogs are fed the same protein day after day, over the period of month (or years?) they can develop allergies or an aversion to the protein they are being continuously fed. So yeah, just always double and triple check everything. I really really like Dr Andrew Jones. He has a UA-cam channel called veterinary secrets and he has tons of info on natural cures for several ailments. Check him out and good luck to you 👍

Copper Associated Liver Disease in Dogs is called Wilson's Disease in people. So if you google that it may help give you more information about the disease. However, understanding dogs cannot eat everything people can. I live in Michigan and thanks to the help of Blue Peal Vet Hospital (specialized vet care, aka: expensive) working with my Vet at Pierson Veterinary Hospital in Davison MI, my dog Chance is doing well. His ALT liver levels was well over 137 and currently it is at 90, which is within the normal range, but slightly toward the higher side of normal. He is currently on a special diet of Royal Canin Hepatic Formula Dry,several medications and supplements. The medication and supplements are not cheap, but I'm grateful my dog is now doing better, so it was worth it. I love this video because I have been looking for recipes I could make to supplement my dog's diet as a sort of treat, to occasionally mix in his food. Thank you so much for your post!

Hi there I was wondering if you had any idea using high-quality ingredients what a diet like this cost per serving. Also I was wondering if you switch to a diet like this will this give them loose stools and if so will there be an adjustment time to it and how long do you give it? Introducing a new food is best done by putting 1/4 new food 3/4 of the food you normally use day 1. 50/50 day 2. 75/25 day 3 and then all new food 4th day. That should reduce stomach upset/loose stool.

My dog was diagnose with chronic liver disease, and had high liver enzymes. With the cane food, that she hates, she lowered significantly the enzymes. they did a biopsy, which i dont recommend, probably aspiration n the liver is less invasive and much cheaper. Do not allow to place a feeding tube, its quite bad because you need to clean it an it gets grab by anything, meaning she ripped of and the vet has to fix.
I placed pumpkin on the cane food and oil, because its so bad taste. I cook chicken skinless with bone and placed the broth with the cane food. I cook noodles on the broth, and after the eats cane food she has 2 table spoon with noodles. Brake the food at least 4 times a day so the liver has a brake. I added daily BCAA, branched aminoacids, and phospatidilcoline, milk thistle, vitamin e and c, and denamarin,l as treats i toast bread, that for sandwich, and brake it in small pieces she loves them. I also placed hunny on the bread. No more thant a tea spoon per day. She can not eat eggs or cottage cheese, also she cant eat rice, because she vomits.
With all am doing she is happy, no vomits and very little lethargic during the day. Forgot CBD oil its a big help in nausea among other benefits...

The egg provides essential vitamins and fatty acids. I see you posted this 3 years ago but still good for people currently reading this thread to understand that your vet is dead wrong in telling you to just leave out the egg without any thought to suitable substitution for the missing nutrients. Just because someone has a degree in veterinary medicine does not mean they are smart-- Most vets are students who were really good at memorizing and following the leader and were easily brainwashed by the big Pharma controlled vet programs. Original, critical thought and asking questions are the signs of a superior intellect. I'm convinced that vet schools are purposely screening for sheep who can memorize and be pawns to sell pharmaceuticals and kibble.

Many dogs are thought to have have a struggling liver because commercial dog food provides too much copper-- Clear out the excess copper and liver heals or at least that is the logical hypothesis. The fact is that commercial dog food is causing widespread excess copper storage in the liver and we know that is a fact because liver biopsy data collected over the past 5 decades proves that. That all said, liver friendly, homemade diets strive to use ingredients that are lower in copper-- Not devoid but on the lower side. Sweet potato is much higher in copper content than pumpkin. Therefore, stick with the pumpkin.

Specialist diets such as this have to weight the pros & cons of the dog eating without getting sick & surviving without side effects over complete nutrition. The prescription diet for example is prescription exactly because it need to be fed under a vets guidance because it's not nutritionally complete. Check with your vet before adding any supplements as some will actively work against what you are trying to do. Which for the most part is make sure your dog gets enough protein without too much ammonia production.

Rice, from what I’ve heard isn’t the best bc dogs it feeds bad bacteria and I think maybe the starch, so even when feeding a bland diet, use pure canned pumpkin or sweet potatoes. I heard kefir is good (look up the amount. I think a little, bit a lot, maybe half or full teaspoon per meal? Can’t remember so look it up). Kefir has lots of probiotics naturally in it. And heard good things of the brand Answers’ raw goat milk. Supposed to be incredibly healthy. Haven’t tried it yet

My dog is 15 year's old and suffering tick fever. Kidneys are very much improved but liver enzymes are now raised, query a side effect of doxycycline. So omega 3 is ok for kidneys but omega 6 is harmful. For liver probs, no amino acids, low fat and higher protein if they are loosing protein through their blood or urine.

I thought that the liver breaks down the fat and if it's not working well, then you SHOULDN'T BE FEEDING Any FAT at all, ESPECIALLY NOT HIGH FAT! This same recipe is made by a doctor but everything has to be FAT FREE! 0% fat cottage cheese; take all the fat and skin off of the chicken AND use breast if possible. Also if the dog has serious liver damage even REMOVING THE YOLK from egg is recommended!!

Has anyone reading this ever had their vet give their dog Claro Otic Solution and then have them end up with liver issues or anemia? I think either my vet missed something or this med isn't as safe as they think it is, at least not for an elderly dog and there isn't a lot of information on it. Anyone familiar with this drug? She is a 12yr old bulldog & I don't know why they didn't recommend blood work first if this drug could cause issues. They are telling me her liver issues and anemia didn't happen from this medicine but she was walking, eating and playing and within 90 min of having that put in her ears she was deathly ill. If she had an underlying issue it could have been discovered by bloodwork. They told me she was doing well and acted like this med was safe at her appointment but when we went to leave, she didn't want to and I thought that was odd. She had never done that so I asked if she was okay and they said she was. She is doing a little better now. I had taken her to the vet to have a follow up for a skin infection and ear infection and she came out of that appointment and was very sick within 1.5 hours. They keep telling me the medicine has nothing to do with this. I think they missed something. Blood work wasn't even done until I had to suggest to them to do it. I don't understand. I feel like I failed her by bringing her to the vet. If anyone has had a similar experience with this medication, please let me know. I don't even know what to do at this point other than give her round the clock care like I have. She is doing better but she is on antibiotics and I don't know what will happen when they are done. The vet basically told me she was gonna die and to make her comfortable. Now she is walking better, playing and still isn't 100% but I am really unhappy. I gave the okay for that med but I did it because her doctor made it sound like a safer alternative to taking ketoconazole again for her skin which started to get red again after stopping that med. They told me it wouldn't be safe to take it daily again so she prescribed it to her on the weekend only but I never started it because they gave her the ear stuff that sent her into a near-death experience. Even calling the emergency vet everyone tried telling me she was just tired when I called them in a panic. Next day I brought her in to her vet and they did x-rays, not bloodwork and then sent here home. The next morning I called and told them I needed her to come in for bloodwork and had asked for a quote the prior day so I knew the cost. I am not wealthy, not even middle-class so I was able to raise $90 of the $285 it cost for that bloodwork and her meds and now I have to figure out how to do it all over again so I can get her bloodwork again and see if anything has changed. I feel this shouldn't have happened. I am not aa veterinarian but it seemed ridiculous for them not to suggest bloodwork. I trusted that they would make the best choices for my pet and I feel that was a huge mistake. Trying this diet here is making a difference and she doesn't want dog food anyway.
