    Dave hits the road, and the track, to test out Ford's so-called 'hyper hatch'...

  • @edjohnson1788

    Great video! Many thanks, Dave! The Civic R is preferred by some over the RS, but for rain, gravel, snow/ice, the RS' all-wheel torque-vectoring is superior to the Civic R's fwd IMHO. As you note, the Golf R is more comfortable, but it's also slower; the Sti is a bit dated and the sedan iteration isn't nearly as practical as the RS which comfortably holds skiis, groceries, dog, etc. Prices in the US for the RS have plummeted because of the "flaws" (aka good quirks) you mentioned. For $39K (USD) you get moonroof, forged wheels, Cup 2s, RS2 (heated Recaros/wing mirrors/Nav); then adding a couple of thousand $ a stage one mod plus suspension improvements (Mountune, Cobb etc) allow this modest Focus to embarrass Caymans, 911s, Audis and BMWs costing two or three times as much, especially in adverse conditions. Unlike these "badge" cars, the RS begs to be driven hard regardless of the conditions. Fit the RS with P4s or Sottozeros; when it's slushy and sleeting outside you may want to keep the Queen Porsche in her garage, but you want to take the RS out in challenging conditions and will find suitable excuses for doing so. Certainly for this price point the RS is top of the pops. Pity newer iterations of her won't be going to either Australia or North America. Thanks again for your brilliant review! Keep the rubber on the road, Dave.

      @DaveZalstein  6 років тому +1

      Hey ed johnson! Awesome to hear you dug the video - I really appreciate all the support and positive feedback.
      Thanks too for joining in the discussion. The RS is a pretty solid all-rounder that's hard to beat in terms of bang for buck. And, as you say, a few mods can go a long way.
      I the next-gen car will no doubt be even quicker again, but I think, like the previous generation, this Focus RS will remain a bit of a cult classic.

    I've put 17,000 miles on mine in about 8 months. I can't stop driving this car. I simply look for reasons to drive it. I respect the Civic type R and VW R. However, this car is just insane. It BEGS to plant the foot down in turns. All numbers go out the door when you take a turn in this car. So, complain about the harsh ride, seat comfort, etc. I ask that you simply go into a turn, plant your throttle to the floor and you'll see why this car is just a blast!
    Oh, one last point: research MOOSE TEST + car name (e.g., Focus RS, Civic Type R) and you'll see how much better this car is compared to M2 and Type R

    Dave curious if you would take another car over this RS LE for near the same price as far as driving fun?

    • @DaveZalstein
      @DaveZalstein  6 років тому +1

      Hey Blake Swan... Yeah, it's definitely a tough call at the circa-$60k price point I reckon. My Holden Ute was less but I still love that thing. A new WRX STI spec.R is cool and I do dig them, but they're feeling a bit long in the tooth these days. And while a new Mk7.5 Golf R is off the charts excellent, I also find them incredibly boring.
      I guess, like food and music, cars are very personal and your choice can be quite mood dependant. For right now, I reckon the RS LE is a cracking car for the price - a baby supercar for those who don't have $500,000+ to blow on a Ferrari, a Lambo, a McLaren, or a Porsche. Sound fair?

    • @swanblake
      @swanblake 6 років тому

      Dave Zalstein totally makes sense. More curious if you would take this over a rwd competitior for driving experience?

    • @DaveZalstein
      @DaveZalstein  6 років тому

      A new rear-drive car for around $50-60k, you're sort of looking at a Ford Mustang or a Nissan 370Z Nismo or maybe a flagship Toyota 86. I really like the 86 and the 370Z is getting on a fair bit now. A Mustang is always fun, but it's not my favourite...

    Has Ford updated the stats on the LE RS w/LSD 0 to 60 mph time yet? Track time has decreased, and the 0 to 60 time should decrease too. Currently, the regular RS 0 to 60 time is 4.4 sec, so I can imagine what the LE RS w/LSD 0 to 60 time will be!

    • @DaveZalstein
      @DaveZalstein  5 років тому

      Not sure if Ford claimed any significant difference in times to be honest James McClendon. I think - in Australia anyway - they were more focussed on improving the car's stability and performance under hard braking and hard acceleration more so than any clear straight-line improvement.
      Either way, those super sticky tyres are a massive difference maker.

    Dave: Listen up. mate! How dare you to disrespect the President of the U.S.A.! We find that very offensive, and there's nothing humorous about degrading a leader the world's superpower country! You've insulted us Americans, and if you have any intelligence in your skull mate, you need to make a public apology on this channel! If you don't apologize, I will BOYCOTT your channel and immediately contact your sponsors! Next, when you mention the President of the U.S.A., address him as President Donald Trump! It is so disrespectful to the citizens of the U.S.A., his position, and title he has earned! Plus, it discredits any common sense, intelligence, and diplomacy you have! Whether you like him or not, he is the President of a world superpower country! It would be disrespectful too if someone addressed Queen Mary as just "Mary"! Get what I'm saying, mate? Finally, the knowledge you have with cars means nothing if you don't know how to show respect to everyone in life! Get what I'm saying, mate? Thank-you

    • @DaveZalstein
      @DaveZalstein  5 років тому +4

      Hey James McClendon, to be clear, I never degraded President Trump at all. I even said that if you're on his wavelength, he's a hard bloke not to like. I think you missed what I actually said there, even if it was wrapped up in attempted humour.
      Also, I don't have any 'sponsors' for you to contact, it's just me making car vids - and if you decide you don't want to watch them because of this, that's your prerogative but again, I think you missed what I was saying. I also think showing respect to everyone in life can be a little tricky, and it's not something many of us always get right.
      Lastly, just so you know, Queen Mary died in 1953. The current Queen of England is Queen Elizabeth II. And in Australia, although we are part of the Commonwealth, our leader is the Prime Minister... not the Queen.
      All good though.

    • @jamesmcclendon3932

      Davey boy: Ok, smarty pants! When you referred to Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, you put the royal title in front of their names! You didn't refer to them as Elizabeth and Mary! Out of respect for President Trump's title and position you should have referred to him along with his title as you had no problem doing that to the Queens! You're not going to disrespect the U.S.A! Smh! Oh, I see what's going on! People from all around the world dream of living in the U.S.A.; however, they live in the small country that they do. Whenever they get a chance to lash out at the U.S.A in subtle or blatant ways, they do it, as you did! Hey, don't be a hater! Just save your money and come and visit the U.S.A! It's not our fault that you or your parents chose to reside in australia! We know that the U.S.A. leads the world in technology, medical research, armament, and the list goes on! Other countries stand on the sidelines and just WISH! I'll bet you do a lot of wishing that has not come true! Mr. Big man that talks big, we know that you talk big to compensate for what you are lacking! Respect, dignity, intelligence, common sense, and humility! Bye, and leave me alone!
