Trance is a genre of electronic dance music that developed in the 1990s in Germany. It is characterized by a tempo of between 125 and mid 160 beats per minute, repeating melodic phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track. Trance is a genre on its own, but also will include other styles of electronic music such as techno, house, chill-out, classical music, and film music.
A trance refers to a state of hypnotism and lessened consciousness. This drifting sensation is portrayed in the genre by mixing many layers and rhythms to create build and release. For example, a characteristic of virtually all trance songs is the soft mid-song breakdown, beginning with and occurring after the orchestration is broken down and the rhythm tracks fade out rapidly, leaving the melody, atmospherics, or both to stand alone for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

This music takes me back to the good old days, it lives on forever
I met my wife in 1999, at a club. Maybe not the most romantic venue to find our future partners... But we started going out together to some of the best clubs in Manchester that were playing quality dance music - trance, techno etc. Some of it "classic" like this, some of it underground and known only to the DJs. 21 years later, we are married, older, living in a different town and like everyone right now, trying to get through these weird times. But one thing hasn't changed - we still love the music from that time. It can't be beaten. The music had identity, emotion, beauty - the ideas were fresh and musicians used sounds in a creative way. What an exciting time to be out there. I wonder if in these dark times creativity might have a resurgence and another golden age could be around the corner? For now though, just stick another classic from back in the day on - it's always brings a smile.

Before trance there was dance and we used to do it all night to this incessant beat but it was called Disco. Take out the words and the changes to the rhythm that the words force the song to do and you have trance. 54, Danceteria, LimeLight, Bring 4 shirts to change from sweating. I'm 61 and still listen to this. I got hooked on Generation Trance 2000. I listen exclusively to non-word trance when I need to get shit done. I seem to have learned that the good songs never stay on one riff for more than 4 bars. Is this a known thing? I am not a musician.

EDM is not a music, its a term to name all Electronic Dance Music. But im backing you up about that present "music".
I didn't hear the term EDM until 2010, and that was when the US market for electronic music booming. EDM is also completely different from Electronic music. Compare the tracks from non-US EDM market to people who stay true to the music and you'll see the difference. EDM in short is the term used by pop culture kids who know nothing of actual genres of electronic music.
I believe because the music industry has consolidated into 2 big global companies, most popular music have become strictly products to meet quarterly revenues.. Can't have quality and quantity in such fixed monetary setting. Maybe things will change since things always change, hope I am still alive when music can touch me deep inside my soul like songs from the 80s, 90s and early 2000.

Great music is great music. Metalheads and Trance fans have a lot in common musically(with some forms of metal at least.) The same reason I love trance in large part is the same reason I love Stratovarious.... greatly methodically driven music. A great melody is a great melody. Plus we like effects on leads/instruments and so do metalheads.
