Serious question. Has Medina ever produced anything outside of the WSL? Just finished watching some Robinson free surfing parts and I feel like many of the Brazilian guys are just competition guys. Quite different from skateboarding where the some of the best skate parts that have come out in recent years are Brazilians
I kinda feel Brazilian surfers had more like a building as pro athlete surfers. For example, Italo is a name that absolutely loves to do freesurfing in his home. However, we see less of this about Gabe, because he focuses more on building his physical strength and body to have less propensity of injuries. I think we can see this difference between J.J and Gabe. J.J is a surfer that does a lot of freesurfing, but he had plenty more of injuries than Gabe, recently.
Wt?? do you really want to question a 3rd world champion just because you saw a cool free surfing video? Ask any surfer who's ever had the chance to see one of these giants free surf and you'll have their answer
I think you have a valid point here. I think Brazillians have a fighter mentality more than the other surfers because of how their local lineups are at home. If I had 50 people sitting on one peak I'd make sure I surfed the shit out of it but its also because they are very passionate. The difference here (I'm Australian) is that we frown upon aggresive surfers especially really passionate surfers but the uprising of Byron-bay-esque surfers have changed the culture of surfing. Whereas 20 years ago there was a different breed of surfers similiar to how Brazil is now. Medina just wants to get the job done, whats a few clips on social media compared to the glory of a world title? Everything. I love it.
@@lukealsmith Yeah. You totally get my point. I think in the past, as you said, freesurfing was way more impactful for surfers, and their results in the championship. But this mentality is making Brazil's generation special.

O 6.33 do Medina foi um 8 no mínimo, como q aquela onda 5.5 do j.r. Ficou menos de um ponto de diferença, absurdo
Não foi um 8, a onda teve boas batidas no lip, mas nada especial e no final a onda deitou. O garfo do Robinson foi incrível e 5.5 pra uma grande manobra com uma queda foi justo, quase 1 ponto de diferença.
Ta insuportável já essa mania de perseguição de vocês, não precisamos disso.

Glad to see gabby not get robbed from the judges again. I’m not a huge fan of the man, but he’s undeniably the best surfer on tour and consistently kicks ass every time. He’s turning me into a fan honestly, hard to hate when someone is working hard and completely smooth

..... how long will WSL hide judges names and let them do whatever they want with the sport? I say: stop judging the country flag, start judging the surf!
I was so confused by this as well at first, but judges really hated if you dont complete the wave today. They instantly took 2 points off the score if the surfer fell at the end or didnt complete the ride. Thats why Kanoa got a 6 for his last wave which was so well surfed until the last turn...
Each Medina wave was basically the same. If jack had of caught more waves he would of easily one. At least you don't know what robbo will do next. Surprised Medina didn't claim every wave

As notas do Medina foram uma piada desses juizes ladrões. Como sempre eles até tentaram ajudar o Jack, o problema é que dessa vez ele mesmo não se ajudou, não conseguindo surfar.

Acredito que wsl está se perdendo com essas "notas" fake. A cada dia se acredita menos nos juízes que estão sendo tendenciosos em prol dos gringos, mas, de uma forma ou de outra isso é "bom", pois, nós brazucas os verdadeiros stomrs somo o calo no sapato do resto dos surfistas. Infelizmente não vou mais assistir essa palhaçada que está sendo a grande wsl.

Conditions were tricky asf though. Hard to diversify things when you’re struggling to keep your rails from digging.
