    JAVANESE STYLE TURMERIC YELLOW RICE. JAVAANSE GELE RIJST. NASI KUNING.
    This dish is usually served in a rice table (rijsttafel) on banana leaves and consists of various Javanese dishes.
    In Javanese it’s called BERKAT. Family and friends will sit around the table or on the floor on a Javanese traditional mat made of woven palm leaves (in Javanese called KLOSOH) sharing this meal together. It’s traditionally eaten by hand.
    Ingredients:
    2 ½ cup jasmine rice
    600 ml Coconut milk
    Fried onion/shallots to garnish
    2 Indonesian bay leaves
    3 whole all spice
    ½ tsp salt
    ½ tsp turmeric powder
    1 vegetable cube
    1 pandan leaf
    1 lemongrass stalk
    2 garlic cloves
    1 lime leaf
    Preparation:
    Bruise the lemongrass to release its flavor.
    Make a paste of the garlic and some salt.
    Heat up oil in a pan and fry the garlic paste and turmeric.
    Add the lemongrass, pandan leaf, Indonesian bay leaves, all spice, break the lime leaf and stir while adding the coconut milk.
    Add salt, vegetable cube and let simmer for 2 minutes on low heat.
    Wash the rice and add the prepared coconut milk to the rice.
    Also add some water if needed.
    The water level should reach about the second knuckle of your middle finger.
    Put the cooking pan in the rice cooker and let cook.
    When done stir with a fork so the rice grains stay whole.
    You can take out the lemongrass and the leaves.
    Garnish with some fried onions on top.
