If Ralph has not been recognized by the Emmy's with a Lifetime Achievement award, I'd say it is well overdue. It is such an honor to have this talented man share his stories with us. He's one of a kind.
I think what I like most about these interviews with him is that it's not just Waltons memories. He tells stories from the golden age of Hollywood. There are so few left from that time to tell stories.
Thank you Judy for segments on the weekend's. So interesting and with Ralph as your guest speaking so glad he still with us what an honor. Happy Saturday to you Judy blessing's 💗💗🙏🙏👍☺️
I don’t know what prompted me about a week ago to read Mr. Ralph’s Wikipedia page, but I did, and WOW! First, I did not realize Ralph is 101 😮 because he is sharp as a tack. Second, reading through Ralph’s extensive filmography, I saw he directed seven Hart to Hart episodes (a favorite show of mine), as well as an episode of Mannix. I watch the latter nightly still; the former nightly until the station lineup changed. I would love to hear any stories Mr. Ralph would care to share about those shows and actors. Mr. Ralph has certainly accomplished much in his lifetime. Thanks so much, Judy, for these wonderful conversations. I really enjoy them. ❤
Thank you both for this great video, I recently went to Ralph's website and read about all of the shows he was involved in, brought back great memories.
I’m glad you got to interview Mr.Ralph The Waltons was the best show that was on TV. Thanks Judy for this information. Keep giving us these amazing videos. ❣️
If I had Ralph's memory, I would be elated! He is inspiring. His stories are priceless and you are so relaxed and naturally conversational. Looking forward to the next!!
Ralph is pure Hollywood gold. Judy, you know he has so many stories that still need to be told before he is gone forever and takes all of these golden memories with him. You, fine lady, are doing such a service with your channel and documenting things. The work you are doing is going to be appreciated long after you are gone. The Walton's is forever.
Hello Ralph and Judy!! I LOVE seeing you both on the weekend! What an amazing story about Adrian. I always loved her as Mrs Breckenridge and how she invested so much time and care into Jason, but to hear how she got her start in show business is wonderful. You both always know how to make my day! Thank you so MUCH!! 🥰
Great to see more of Ralph Senensky talking about more classic TV shows that he had worked on and his memories of who he worked with especially on the Waltons and thanks again Judy have a great weekend.🇺🇲📺🇺🇲
Thank you and Ralph for the GREAT stories! The Golden Age of TV and movies for me, was 1963 - to the Mid 1980's! Hey Judy, there are ONLY two "sit-coms" I like more recently! "The Goldbergs", and "The Middle"! My all time favorite comedy movie was "What's Up Doc" with Barbra Streisand! I watch it at least once a year! 🤪
Oh Judy, talking with an absolute national treasure. What more can one ask for. As - are you too Judy. You really are. We need more people like you in the world. People who just want to be nice.
Good morning Judy. I am so glad that you have continued this segment with Ralph Senensky. I just really appreciate his honest answers, and of course his sense of humour. I loved his answer that whether you are acting,or directing whatever genre, bottom line,it has to be realistic.Whether it was John Ritters' or Richard Thomas' antics,or a dramatic scene in the Waltons,it was in the reality of it,that we as an audience believed it,and therefore responded to it.
thank you for sharing this valuable insight into aspects of the waltons ide never know otherwise.. you are a gem! im working on watching all of your uploads. im so blessed to have the time to watch them all as i pleases. keep up the great work. you look fantastic buy the way! stone cold fox!
Judy, thank you! This is EXACTLY Ralph's genius - it's the reality of the moment. No difference between directing comedy, drama, or a mix of both. His actors don't try to make the comedy scene funnier - it's not a vaudeville sketch - they just follow the direction and become the characters, and you forget they are acting. You forget there's a whole film crew there, and are drawn into the moment, into the story. Very few directors have the ability to do this. The only other one who did it as well as Ralph, (in my opinion) was William Wyler. Thank you, Ralph, also, for sharing that great story about Adrienne Marden. What a pity that so much of her film work was brief and uncredited. Both of you, Judy and Ralph, please keep these interviews coming, they are priceless!
I saw Mr. Senesky's name as the director on an episode of The Partridge Family and got really excited. I am glad you are doing these interviews so we get to know and hear the stories of such a wonderful person.
Love these interviews Watching "The Grandchild" Did they know Curt was going to be "killed of?" I ask it bc when Mrs. Brimmer is reading the tea leaves & sees something bad for Mary Ellen, the thought was it was related to Cassie & the curse. In hindsight, I think it was the foreshadowing of Curt's death. Thank you, Ralph for sharing your talent and history with us. Every interview is an opportunity to learn something new. Thank you, Judy, for these interviews and behind the scenes.
That was amazing, what a legend Ralph is. He must be the last of his generation from the old Hollywood golden era hence all the fascinating stories. He should get these written down for a biography so that newer generations can be inspired by him and learn from him and his wisdom. I do agree with you both Judy about comedy and how it is always better and funnier when it comes from a normal situation rather than being fabricated and forced for the sake of it like today's offerings. Thank you for a wonderful segment Judy and best wishes as always from your waltonian superfan in a cold grey miserable England😉
We love to hear those stories these characters have to tell. It tells us the story of their experiences on the Walton's and they tell a story about themselves. I like hearing the human side.
I am surprised Ralph mentioned Barbara Stanwyck as a comedian! I have seen her only in her serious roles. She was blazing terrific in The Thorn Birds. If I recall correctly I saw her in murder mystery type movies. I did not think one way or the other about her until a few years ago I watched Stella Dallas!! Miss Stanwyk just about killed me with her incredible portrayal and of course her daughter in the movie helped portray very difficult ideas and situations. I will have to look for Stanwyck in a comedy. Thank you for sharing your memories, Ralph. BTW, Playhouse 90 in our house was treated as seriosly as a Broadway Play!! Those early days of black and white TV, this new medium to present literature was very highly regarded! ❤🎭
Absolutely captivating, that entire story about that actress! Astonished is the best word that comes to mind. The Lord truly had His hand of blessings squarely upon that young lady back in the beginnings of her career!
What an initiation into movies Mrs Breckenridge (Adrienne Marden) had! I trust being an actor with The Walton's was a far sight more pleasant!! I think all The Walton children are natural when it comes to comedy. And Esther and Zeb are pretty humorous as well! Im so glad you cited Barbra Streisand as a gifted comedian, Ralph! She was so young in Funny Girl and Hello Dolly, yet demonstrated incredible comedic timing, gestures, everything! One of my favorite comedic set-ups is the opening scenes of Barefoot in the Park with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. I did not see Barefoot until sometime after all the very serious roles Redford played. The juxtaposition of the exuberant Jane Fonda with the very straight-laced and suffering from a head cold Redford is very very funny! I will have to think about what you said, Ralph, about playing the reality of the situation, that comedy flows from that. Thanks for the interesting stories and conversation. It's always a pleasure to listen. Bless you both and Walton's everywhere. ❤
Ralph, how far ahead of Walton's film day one did you get the story or script to prepare and think about what you want to see? We're there writers' meetings with you or storyboards? Judy, and when did you get your script to review and rehearse as a Walton child actor? Love all you do? And was Sweet Billy replaced for season 9, he looked different...( he died from a heart condition)
By the time I directed THE WALTONS the DGA had negotiated with the Producers that scripts for an episode had to be delivered to the director 4 days ahead of when he reportedto start prepping.
How far ahead we got the script varied. Sometimes 4 - 5 days, sometimes less, sometimes more. Yes, Sweet Billy was played by 2 different actors. Not sure why.
Ma'am, I meant to ask in my other comment are you and your's safe from the fires? I think of you every time the news covers them about 5 times a day. I have been praying for y'all as that is all i can do.
*Judy, I just love your interviews with Ralph as he has so much history in his head. 🙂Has he ever written a book on the history of Hollywood TV Series & movies etc?? If not then he needs to do it, like now 🙂nz*
Ralph is a treasure of knowledge. As an animation artist, I concur that in comedy or drama, the essence lies in truthfulness and verisimilitude. Achieving this is challenging, particularly when operating within the artificial environment of a complex production apparatus. Thank you, Judy and Ralph, for sharing this fascinating conversation
Wonderful! Thank you so much for recording all of this marvelous Hollywood history via Ralph's stories. What a treasure. Question for you Judy; if you could wave a magic wand and go back in time, who would you most want to meet and why?
Great discussion! Regarding the comments about humor and comedy in the series. You can "see" the smirks on John-boy and the reverend (John Ritter)'s faces. Multi-talented actors! Also, I LOVE The Baldwin sisters and Ike and Corabeth. But they all have some great lines expressed humorously whether intended to be humorous or not. Just great actors! Re-watch the episode The Hot Rod s9e12 in which the secret recipe room was discovered. The dialog between Ike and The Baldwin sisters: hilarious!!! 😅😂😅 The Waltons: heartwarming drama and precious humorous nostalgic episodes ❤❤❤.
“ to turn back the pages 📄 of time “ Good morning Miss Judy and great work with Ralph. Judy it would be cool if you could interview Pat Boone sometime. He’s got more stories than one can imagine. Those old timers are a tremendous inspiration for us. He married Red Foley’s daughter Shirley and made a home in Los Angeles. Red helped a young Brenda Mae Tarpley get a start in a singing career. She shortened her name to Lee. “ that silver haired daddy of mine, bravely fighting the battle of time “ 1935 Gene Autry Los Angeles California.
Thanks, Judy and Mr. Senensky for another great discussion. I completely agree, I only enjoy comedy that is reality and natural. Most sitcoms just miss the mark, in my opinion.
Very interesting. Thank you, Judy. I make my first big screen debut in the upcoming release of "The Alto Knights," starring Robert Dinero. I have a character extra part as father of mobster, Vincent Gigante, played by actor Cosmo Jarvis. March 21, 2025.
Almost missed this one...There were many scenes in "The Waltons" that were comedy. Jack Shea directed some comedy episodes like the one where Ike and Corabeth got married. Then he did "Good Times" and other funny shows. Mr. Senensky is right about character actors and actresses. They don't exist today. They included Ellen Corby and Will Geer. Great story about Adrienne Marden. I remember seeing her on "The Rockford Files" and "The Twilight Zone" episode with Carol Burnett. Want to see more with Mr. Senensky.
Yes, it always makes me aware that people have different views on what’s funny. Sometimes I feel a movie more universally appeals and becomes a bit hit with the majority.
Outstanding story about Adriene and Ethyl! Always enjoyed the Barrymores! And I especially liked Adriene's character, Mrs. Breckenridge. That lady had such polish and panache as an actress--very classy. Over the years, I've seen many guest actors who have appeared in other shows or movies; it is interesting to see them using their talents in other creative works. And I also think it is funny when actors are playing a role as "regular people" and make light of those who act for a living--as it may be a job that is either a waste of time or part of that so-called "seamier side of life." I wonder if an actor feels silly delivering a line like that? Also, why do stage actors put down "the movies" because "it just isn't theater"? Judy, as an actor, what is the distinction for you? Is it because a play has a live audience or what? And I wonder how Richard Thomas would respond? (I've attended movies, plays, musicals and even dinner theater, so an actor's take on this would be intriguing. I've never acted unless you count 40 years of retail, but then I was just being myself.)
Ralph is such a wise Jewish man , that has had great career , I would like to know his important accomplishments. Wife ,Children ? Thanks for doing this, I hope he lives the full 120 years that is possible for men .
Hi Judy. Ralph mentioned the recast of John-Boy and I was not a fan of that happening. Did they do that because it was a real life experience of Earl’s that he wanted to tell and Richard wasn’t available?? I did like the illusion of being told you might not recognize John-Boy because of his injuries hence his face all bandaged up. I think the doctors told Olivia that.
IMO - the show was about John Boy - the character based on Earl’s life and told through his eyes. Then Richard’s contract was up after 5 years, but Earl wanted the character of John Boy to still be a key part of the story… Richard wasn’t available or interested in coming back, so the other option was to recast.

Judy, if I had to pick a topic to talk about with you for fun, it would be comedy. I had to learn it. I am not naturally funny. I read books from comedy writers and comedians. What I learned. 1) Comedy is about truth and pain. It's about cutting through the manners and pathos and directly pointing out the hypocracy of any situation. Comedy keeps the characters honest. It's not about jokes. 2) Desi Arnaz talked about his wife Lucy. How she needed hours to plan it out. She was not naturally gifted in comedy. She had to work at it to get the timing down. But he also added she was incredibly intelligent and knew what she wanted. She wasn't wired for it. Desi was. Both were gifted IMHO. 3) Natural comedians tend to have tough childhoods. Robin had a brutal one and used comedy to cope. However, Steve Martin, on the other hand, literally used comedy as an intellectual exercise. He was fascinated by logic in college and decided to approach comedy using logic because he saw comedy as just fixing the dramatic logical falacies. Once he got too popular, he gave up stand up finding it a chore and went into acting. He saw comedy also as tension and release. Either way, Ralph is a treasure and I'm glad you interviewed it. Keep doing it. He's a hundred. We want to capture everything we can while he is with us!
Ralph Senesky is one of the great Hollywood treasures. I'm glad that you're capturing these interviews with him!

Ralph Waite in my opinion should have won an award he may have im not aware he did ever receive an award 🥇 certainly deserving of a award
I agree.

I completely agree. It never looked like anyone was trying to be funny. They just were and the dialogue gave them great lines to create the humor.

“ to turn back the pages 📄 of time “
Good morning Miss Judy and great work with Ralph.

I’d love to talk with Pat.
@@judynorton2598For sure Judy, my favorite song of his, is 1961 moody river.
Thanks, Judy and Mr. Senensky for another great discussion. I completely agree, I only enjoy comedy that is reality and natural. Most sitcoms just miss the mark, in my opinion.
It does make it evident we don’t all share the same sense of humor :)
Very interesting. Thank you, Judy. I make my first big screen debut in the upcoming release of "The Alto Knights," starring Robert Dinero. I have a character extra part as father of mobster, Vincent Gigante, played by actor Cosmo Jarvis. March 21, 2025.
How exciting for you! Congrats. Being in a film with Robert Dinero is a great way to start!
Everyone had more pressure to fill John boys shoes once he departed .
Yes. big shoes to fill.
Are you & your family ok? We hear all about the fires 🔥 in California. 😢Praying for you all.

Hello
Almost missed this one...There were many scenes in "The Waltons" that were comedy. Jack Shea directed some comedy episodes like the one where Ike and Corabeth got married. Then he did "Good Times" and other funny shows. Mr. Senensky is right about character actors and actresses. They don't exist today. They included Ellen Corby and Will Geer. Great story about Adrienne Marden. I remember seeing her on "The Rockford Files" and "The Twilight Zone" episode with Carol Burnett. Want to see more with Mr. Senensky.
Glad you enjoyed Ralph’s Hollywood stories. More to come.
Hey Judy, I’m happy to hear you say you don’t like the sitcoms of today. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who feels they are too unrealistic. 😅
Yes, it always makes me aware that people have different views on what’s funny. Sometimes I feel a movie more universally appeals and becomes a bit hit with the majority.
Just watched a movie on UA-cam called Death Cruise and noticed it was directed by Ralph Senensky
Very cool.

Interesting question. I’ll try to dig into it soon.
@@judynorton2598 Mr. Senesky is such a treasure and I love his treasure trove of stories and anecdotes. Charming gentleman.
Ralph is such a wise Jewish man , that has had great career , I would like to know his important accomplishments. Wife ,Children ? Thanks for doing this, I hope he lives the full 120 years that is possible for men .
I feel his career accomplishments top the list. I’ll see what he thinks.

Hopefully he remains doing well.
I completely agree!
He did so much! So many different genres too. He’s a very talented man and has an amazing memory. ❤
