First 5 seconds and the 10 seconds before the video starts is the best opening I ever heard in a marching band peace. So simple - so perfect. It’s like the first bars of Beethoven 5th for marching bands.
100% of this band was the musicians during this whole part. notice at the wide shots everyone's in time with step and choreography. The actors couldn't get all the things SouthWest Dekalb could do at the same time back then notice at 2:24 the drums in the back, snares and multi-tenors line up EXACTLY with the dance routine and the movie audio of the tubas. attention to detail only the musicians could display. you cant replace the pros with actors for this sort of thing.
All of us little black girls who did have this on DVD tried to. XD lol I remember this movie was the shit back then. Lol and I loved their outfits also. Damn time flies I feel old af xD right now. 😂
Duncajad000@warren.k12.in.us 368362002 you are sooo right!😂😂 I used to blast this on my tv back in middle school and dance my ass off cuz I took the time to learn the routine 😂😂😂💀
I love this movie and particularly this MJ Motown battle, I'll never get enough of it. Marching bands are the only reason why I would've loved to be born and raised in the US (and not in my beloved Colombia). Playing drums while dancing and hitting the beat right is a dream that won't come true for me (not in this life, at least... I'm a little above 50)
The thing I loved abt this scene at the time was that my mom and sis were 21 the respective years they spelled out...i also attended howard homecoming a few months before and they did a 70s theme at halftime ❤
I want to know what riff they do at the very beginning is from. It starts before this clip technically but is it from something or just an original riff?
I will never forgive Southern University chancellor for not saying yes to them doing the movie at the University because baby these horns in this movie are horrible but I still love the movie.
This sequence was WAY better than the one Morris Brown put up. No WAY they should've tied them to go into a drumline tie breaker. But they had to do that to get to the final sequence. Just wish they would've put together a better musical sequence cuz that Petey Pablo one is probably my LEAST favorite in the entire movie.
In order, Can you Feel it- The Jackson’s/ Jackson 5 Dancing Machine- The Jackson’s/ Jackson 5 I want you back- The Jackson’s/ Jackson 5 Tear it up- Yung Wun ft. DMX
