- No, the title isn't clickbait. Yes, I finally found the Blockbuster Buster's long-lost review of "Inspector Gadget". I remember watching this review back when it first came out and re-watching it more than a few times before Blip shut its doors taking the video with it. But with a little help from Reddit, I am now able to bring this lost video back from the dead. I hope you enjoy!

You sir, are a godsend for bringing this review back into circulation. I remember i was starting to fade out from ERod's reviews at the time, which is why i put that review on hold. When the Blipocalypse came around, this was one of the reviews that i failed to save, and i never got to see if it's as infamous as legends say it is. I specifically remember how someone at TV Tropes put this specific video in the "Dethroning Moment of Suck" entries.
The statement that stick out from the user's summary was his reaction to ERod' complaining about Matthew's Gadget costume, and now that i've seen it in full, i can finally adress that context was needed for that situation. In the review itself, Eric said this was because "it was grey in the cartoon so the character won't be considered an Inspector Closeau ripoff." After some research on IMDB, all i could find that the quotation statement above was the reason why Gadget no longer has the moustache from the cartoon's pilot but so far, nothing related to the trenchcoat. I would like some help in regards to that.
In regards to the episode, it wasn't as bad or atrocious as the legends claim it was, it was the average Blockbuster Buster episode post Episode I (his 100th episode). Most of his comparisons to the cartoon were valid for the most part, even though that argument got repetitive quickly. Not to mention the film has a lot more wrong in it beyond not being faithful to the original. I COULD complain how come he's so forgiving for most modern MCU films for doing the exact same thing this movie did, but that's not here nor there.
Once more, thank you very much. This still counts as valuable material pertaining the Blockbuster Buster. If you see another missing review from his, keep circulating the links!
I actually went into this movie not expecting it to be the cartoon, and I was 10 at the time.
Things they got wrong count
1: 6:22 (wrong part)
2: 8:22 (It’s not wowser, it’s wowsers!)
3: 8:37 (that’s not the guy who gave Gadget his gadgets, it has always Professor Von Slickstein or Stain, Depending what you’re watching. Not Professor Bradford.)
4: 9:20 (They never show Dr. Claw’s face!)
5: 10:20 (That is not the claw he wears in the cartoon)
6: 11:09 (Police Chief Quimby? Chief Quimby was not a police officer, he was the chief executive of a secret Government organization called HQ. Inspector Gadget is not a police officer, he’s a secret agent!)
7: 12:11 (The gadget suit is not Beige and brown. it’s grey! It has always been grey! It has always been grey so he wouldn’t look like an Inspector Clouseau rip off)
8: 13:16 (The Gadget Mobile)
9: 18:10 (Riverton?! Inspector Gadget doesn’t live in Riverton, he lives in Metro City!)
10: 18:53 (Later, Penny)
11: 21:00 (It’s go go gadget copter, not chopper!)
12: 21:40 (He defeated the bad guy on purpose?!)
Wow, the first erod video I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s literally the same movie as the first ever nostalgia critic video I saw a decade ago in February.
He forgot to say this message will self destruct
Wow, thank you for finding this! I haven't seen this in quite a while!
On the bright side, Matthew Broderick has The Lion King (1994) under his belt.
Thank you, man!!!! I have being looking everywhere of it. I hope you can find the rest of Erod videos!!!!
Oh my god thank you so much, I remember this review but I wasn't able to find it for so long.
Never realized how much of a hypocrite he is . Rips this movie to shreds for not being faithful but not Marvel movies for doing the exact same thing. Even defends awful movies that he's biased towards.
And i guess he never saw inspector gadget 2..which is a step up
I think it's awful I like the first one
John Lithgow sounds a lot like Don Adams
I never watched the cartoon when I was little, just the movies
Actually same here, I saw a few of the original when it was on Hulu.
Thank you AstrodomeKid.
You're welcome! 😉
This was some nice nostalgia, before the dude utterly lost his mind.
And people say Spoony fell off...
Thanks buddy. Can u find back the reviews of The Host and Seventh Son, please ?

Also penny did help by convincing the guy to turn himself in and give up the foot
Yeah but it this were the cartoon, she would've instantly been taken hostage and need to rely on Brain to pick up the slack.
@supermariof0521 if not gadget have to save her, if not Corpral capeman save him and the whole world exploded.
I remember when my brother, and I had the vhs tape when we were little
Thanks so much for this. Can you find Erods Marmaduke review.
Him, Nostalgia Critic and many other people including myself didn't know this was the origin story of Gadget and Claw
Not very good ones
Here’s hoping you can find his DC animated 2015 review.
The 1999 Disney movie Inspector Gadget is by far the best live action Inspector Gadget film adaptations. Sure it did started the sequel four years later. But this one I think did it the best.
Even though it got 21% on Rotten Tomatoes it is at least very entertaining on it's own.
Matthew Broderick is a great Inspector Gadget and it's his best Disney role yet. You can definitely tell the difference between his performance and French Stewart's and he is way over his character.
He played not only a great hero but a great villain as well. Also the entire cast in this movie is great. Including Rupert Everett who played Dr. Claw. Otherwise known as Sanford Scolex. He is a good actor and he did a great job playing a villain.
As with the second movie you can see that it has tons of problems along with a new cast replacing the original cast from the first movie. Unlike Inspector Gadget 2 this movie works so well its actually hilarious.
Also, this movie really dose come out to be a fun Matthew Broderick flick with some nice visuals and an exciting action movie for kids.
In comparison to Inspector Gadget 2 this movie at least attempts to take the TV cartoon series and provide their own spin on things and create an origin story without coming off as too cringe-worthy.
The changes they made feel more natural and it feels entertaining enough where everyone can see how a normal person becomes Inspector Gadget.
Plus you get some car chases, explosions, robots, a hospital operation, Robo-Gadget goes on a rampage and destroy the city, the final battle between Inspector Gadget and Robo-Gadget and a happy ending.
Not only that this movie has some crime, sci-fi, action and romance too. Other than that I love how funny the movie is. This is comedy done right to where an animated TV show from 1983 that hasn't got it's own live action adaptation after being off the air for 13 years of being on television for 3 years.
Plus it's another Inspector Gadget adaptation that's a classic.
Although there are some kids from the 1980's that saw the TV cartoon series and they think that it's way more better than the Mathew Broderick Inspector Gadget movie you should find time to see them both.
They are both worth watching and I can recommend to everyone who loves Inspector Gadget. Rather if it's in cartoon animation or live action.
Different opinions, different minds.
YOU! I was 3 months late, but good to know that you’re still active, spewing out the same copy and paste review on literally any and every Inspector Gadget 1999 related movie. This makes number 7 in my eternal quest to find your copy and paste thesis, as it is your eternal quest to advocate this movie’s greatness. I believe you are a bot created by somebody to automatically go and preach this same comment every. Single. Time. The Dazz Review of this movie, the Nostalgia Critic, the Movie Recaps, two separate videos of the Movie’s Theme song, and one more I can’t remember. Who created you? What is your creator’s intentions? To drive me insane?
One day I shall meet you. We will tea, put on the 1999 movie on a VHS or Disney+ and you will say the same. Freaking. Thing. Over and over until I kick you out of my tea party, for you are like a parrot, and parrots aren’t exactly that great at conversations.
The eternal Eater Egg hunt continues. You are always one step ahead, and I am always at your heels. My fascination for your spam unquenchable. Where will you leave your calling card next, oh admirer of this Inspector Gadget movie? Where in the world are you, Carmen Sandiego? Wait wrong show.
@@coryg.3139 The worst part is those who defend this movie, never even watched the cartoon.
13:03 Nostalgia Critic: Okay. WHY would anyone put that much toothpaste inside of him? I mean, how many emergencies require toothpaste...and why a hose? Is there really a situation where you need to shoot toothpaste from a hose? And why did it come out when he said “oil slick?”
AND WHY THE FUCK CAN WE SEE DR. CLAW?!
I’m sorry I’m still on that
NO I gotta get out of here
😬
I still don't know how Pittsburgh City council allowed this movie to be filmed
IDK THIS WAS HERE?
I highly recommend the 2nd movie instead. It's definitely got problems but it is at least way more faithful to the source material.
i think there's more lost reviews of his from the old blip days i don't remember though
I really miss ERod The Block Buster Buster because his Wife Marsha Died of Covid 19. 😔
Same here man.
I didn't know he was married.
The second movie is better! We never saw Claw's face, he's always in the shadows; his henchemens are funny, the cartoony humor worked, the robot girl is likable and her romance with gadget is cute, Penny is proactive and brave. I prefer Inspector gadget 2 than this abomination. At least, IG 2 is entertaining 🙂
10:34 This claw he has here is better. This guy acts like it's not exactly like the cartoon, so it's bad. Lol - Luke
Its more so the fact that there needs to be a fine line between creative liberties and straight up disregard for source material.
And also if you want more gadget their Gadget boy.
And gadget and the gagetines were this was don adams last performance
why didn't Erod save all these videos himself?
Maybe he didn't own the rights to them when he worked for Channel Awesome.
Since this live action movie got a lot of things wrong about Inspector gadget maybe they’ll get things right one day when they make an inspector gadget, live action TV show cause sometimes when they may adapt a cartoon into a live action movie and get things wrong. They get right when they fix things by turning into a live action TV show yeah Inspector gadget in this movie isn’t dumb enough. In fact, he’s a lot smarter the second live action movie they got things right by making him dumber. And the second movie they make Dr. claw voice sounds like Dr. claw.
Have you seen the sequel, Disney's inspector gadget 2?
I have seen it and I actually really enjoyed it.
And yeah Penny is now brown its blonde
By the way there was a sequel to this movie
0:54
16:33
LOL! i swear i laugh watching this
what abouty robots?
John Lithgow?
This movie is absolute abomination
Guess erod never talks about Gadget boy , gadget and the Gadgetiness (don adams last show)
Iron Man (2008),
I have copies of every review. If anybody wants to see one let me know.
I want some. Do you have the first reviews of Erod?
@@maximosalazar9985 Yes. Which ones do you want?
@@gamegeek812 Marmaduke, The Host, X3 and the fuck ups.
@@maximosalazar9985 Ok. I'll post links for you ASAP. By Fuck ups, do you mean the Batman and Batman Returns videos?
@@gamegeek812 The fucks ups I meant the BB's WTF moments not the batman ones. I also want the terminator 1-2 look back episodes and the terrible 10
12:11 Okay, so I have an honest question real quick, don't mean to get heated here, but...WHO CARES?!? Who honestly gives a s$#& about the color of his trenchcoat? How does that impact the film in any way whatsoever? What does a somewhat different name for a character, a different type of robotic hand, or someone's new job profession have to do with the quality of writing, acting, or cinematography of the movie we are watching now? Say what you will about Doug, but when he reviewed this film, he looked at it's merits as a FILM! Meanwhile, a majority of these complaints he focuses on come off as nothing more than petty squabbles and nitpicks that both older audiences won't care about because they have more important stuff in their lives to worry about than some changeups to details from a cartoon they watched in the 80s and younger audiences wont care about because they likely haven't even seen the show before.
I'm sorry about the tirade, but dang this is a constant problem I have with Eric's reviews as a whole. I used to watch them a lot as a kid, but seeing them now as I get older, these "critiques" come off more as childish grievances from someone who hasn't grown up yet.
Mainly he's a annoying man bady that get mad if he doesn't get what he wants
Ok of course There had Too Be some changes to Dr Claw Origin And That's The problem Dr claw has NO Origin mush as we love him in the cartoon It never tales Us about his motivations Or why he's Evil He's jus an enigma
That or he's secretly the original gadget
@@dr.mixer8930 🤨 You Do know that's a Fan theory Right
Yup
