78-82 Corvette Door Handle Trim Restoration

- Inside door release handle trim pieces do not age well as they're constantly touched whenever a door needs to be opened.
The ones used in 1978 through 1982 Corvettes are also made of plastic, so they can break or crack every time they are removed and reinstalled.
Chances are, the ones in your C3 Corvette may look like mine.
Fortunately, they can be brought back to life with a good cleaning and spray paint.
In the case of my 1981 Corvette, more severe measures were necessary, so a good coat of truck bed coating spray brought back the black camera case finish (link below).
I also used this opportunity to detail the door mirror remote toggle base.
New aftermarket parts are also easily available for a reasonable amount, in case that's easier than restoring original ones, or if those pieces are damaged beyond repair.
It's all about the small details when it comes to these classic cars, so let me show you how I rescued mine.
By the way, these trim pieces were used on many car models of the era, including those manufactured by Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile
Thank you for watching! 🙂👍🏻

Awesome job! That paint really looks great for that purpose!👍
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
Hello 😉
This is another great video from you!! You are the best👍
BtW: I repaired the brake light in the cluster. 😎
It was a real fiddly job to get the bulb from below. I had to loosen everything at the front so that I could get to the fastening from below at the back....
Greetings from Saarland (Germany) Karl
Glad to hear you were able to fix it. 😊👍🏻
I restored my center shift console, and rather than masking off all the silvery parts, I painted it all black and then used a utility knife to scrape the paint off the raised areas. It worked great on the raised lettering too. Your door handle trim piece looks like it has an inner rectangle that is raised up - it might look sharp if you use the blade-scraping technique to lift the paint from that rectangle and let the silver shine through?
Man he's the c3 doctor 😂
Look great, definitely on my to do list! Any plans to keep the 81 ?
It’s a back and forth thing with it. Lol 😆
You look like you’re really enjoying it lol! Definitely something to think about :)
@gianluca8805 I know. 😊👍🏻
