Puerto Rican identity is a tricky thing. I’ve questioned if I was Puerto Rican enough to call myself Puerto Rican or tell other people I was Puerto Rican for most of my life because I was born in the United States and only know enough Spanish to tell my relatives that I don’t know how to speak much Spanish but as I wept in my aunt’s arms after playing this song at my papito’s funeral, I knew my question had finally been answered.
