Best song of the 80's. Got run over by a pick up truck in '87. Spent sprin/summer in wheelchair. This was my theme song to my maniacal work outs. Took me 3 years to learn to walk again. Never looked back again
I like the fact that you call him Kenny because that's what Tom Cochrane called him. I'm delighted they've patched things up and Tom, Kenny, and Jeff Jones are back playing and touring again in 2024.
It's been 35 years since this song came out, and my dad was 18 at the time cranking it then, and I'm cranking it now. Thank god I got introduced to this stuff
I remember running away from home to California in 1982. This song was a part of my recorded cassette and my Walkman. These Americans loved this song and Headpins. It was the same year Michael Jackson's song Beat it came out.
Why sorry Americans? I'm an American who grew up on Red Rider, Rush, Headpins, Aldo Nova, Lover boy, Kim Mitchell, April Wine...etc.....and SCTV. Great Canadian music made it's way south in the 80s.
@@daves4645 Makes me happy hearing this 😁 Were you living near the border catching Canadian radio? I know our stuff got some air-play south of the border but nothing like we got up here (Canadian content rules)
Correct me if you already know this but the bassist is Jeff Jones. He played bass for a band called Rush. The reasons he quit are debatable but Geddy Lee took over before they released their first album.
I saw them last night warming up for the Eagles, and they nailed that mind-blowing transition at 1:59 even better so many years later than in this video.
GREAT OLD SONG!! by a band that is only known for lunatic fringe in the states.. I picked up Neruda on vinyl for 2.99 in the 90's it turned out to be one of my faves!!! And no lunatic fringe!!!! which is the only song by them that gets radio play in the states.
In Canada New Brunswick we have a station called c103.1 fm that plays classics like this. So it plays for us. Idk where your from or anything but I hear this song on the radio all the time, they play 60,s rock, 70s 80s 90s 2000s and on, very good station.
Back in my college days, I was student activity planner and signed these guys to play at three of our campuses. After their last show of three at different campuses, I went back to talk with them and Jeff Jones was lighting up a fat spliff of hash, oil, rolled with lamb's breath marijuana. A few of us smoked it and then got into a 30 minute discussion about their tunes. What an experience...I was completely wired and totally saturated by the surrealism of sitting with one of my favourite Canadian groups ever. Tom was busying himself with his guitars while the rest of us just shot the shit about the psychological depth of their masterpiece, "Neruda". I was absolutely wired and we all ended up going across the border to Quebec(Tom stayed in Ontario) and we ended up smoking some more of the same and since I knew the bar owner, he stayed open for us after closing the doors to everyone else. We just sat around drinking wobbly pops, smoking our faces off, and conversing until 8 a.m. That's the first time I learned that Jeff Jones actually started his music career as Rush's original bass player, although only for a short time.
what a guitarist, first time ever watching video of the band. I was first introduced to Red Rider in my youth in the 80's. Always been my favourite album Neruda to this day.
I can see it on the road ahead Running hard I'm here But I could be there instead Many houses with the lights on Silhouettes behind the shades Beside fires I'm sure that I saw you in one I loved you but That was way back then Now I'm alone outside I face the wind The rain washes me thin
It should become mandatory to publish the date that the art was recorded and at which venue. this info has always interested me for whatever reason. maybe love.
@The Terrence Reardon Podcast That's not a Floyd Rose. I had to pause the video a coupel times, but it looks like one of the after market tremolos that were out at the time, that were designed to replace the stop bar tailpiece without any additional routing or drilling. I wanna say it's a Rockinger, but I'm not sure.
of course tRUMP is NOT "THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL." but uh, he is definitely CHOSEN 4 what he's here to do, and like a prophet by the name of Daniel said, and this guy, Daniel, never got nuthin' wrong that he ever said. "and he (this ENDTIME KING) will DESTROY WONDERFULLY."

Bill Chepil omg amazing.
King🔥🔥🔥🔥
I hope you are still doing well. That almost made me cry
Music has that power...when we connect, no barriers can hold us back. Power to you man, I hope you are doing well
That truck is probably scrap now and you're still here stronger than steel! And 80's trucks were real metal! Congratulations!!!
If you are reading this, you are a bright ass being of light, love and power ⚡️ Peace be with you!
Absolutely fantastic!! From one of the best albums ever....NERUDA !!!
Totally agree. Stunning album. It still awes me.
Neruda is one of the fantastic Albums in the 80´´s.I love it orever!!!!!!!
This intro was always so great. I love Neruda, what a great song and great album, one of the best albums of all time.
Kenny Greer is a very underrated guitar player.
I like the fact that you call him Kenny because that's what Tom Cochrane called him. I'm delighted they've patched things up and Tom, Kenny, and Jeff Jones are back playing and touring again in 2024.
Red Rider is timeless…
It's been 35 years since this song came out, and my dad was 18 at the time cranking it then, and I'm cranking it now. Thank god I got introduced to this stuff
A great band. A great band leader. Drum track I studied, like so many Red Ryder tracks. And those COCHRAN pipes.
These guys performed in Jacksonville at Playgrounds South in the early 80's. Light in the Tunnel/Human Race is one of the best songs from that era.
I remember running away from home to California in 1982. This song was a part of my recorded cassette and my Walkman. These Americans loved this song and Headpins. It was the same year Michael Jackson's song Beat it came out.
Loved the Headpins.
Canadiana at it's best! Loved and still do, Red Rider. Seen then many times around Toronto. Sorry Americans

Wicked bass line that drives the whole song

Indeed.
RELENTLESS.

Raw and Real! Remember!
What a awesome song! Makes me want to run and keep running letsssss gooo
They rocked Deerhurst Resort in September 2022 Huntsville, Ontario WOW!!!!!!!
I love seeing and listening to vids like this where you know there's a good chance nothing has been digitally altered or stepped on by some producer.
Goosebumper. Loved this album. R.I.P. Mike Chilton.
You know the music is great when you get literal chills! Few can do that this day in age

I picked it up then too and for the same price! Still have it in mint condition. Crank up this song on my 4 15 inch bass speakers. Unreal.
It’s a shame you never hear these songs on the radio!
Thats how i heard it
We have usher lol
Kids only interested in jungle rhythm now days.
@@MichaelSellers5691 simple minds relate with simple things it seems unfortunately today.

That distorted chorus delayed guitar and the synths in unison is just pure 80’s!!
Amazing Band.

My old man was the drummer during that time (long before I came into the world) and it trips me out seeing comments like this. crazy stuff.
My favorite 2 songs ever. Used to listen to this on cassette tape when I was laying out in the sun. The end of the tape meant flip over 😉
I still have this album and I'm so glad I do because I love this song so much! Great "live" performance!
I love this so much!
My Fave Red Rider Song!! Awesomeness!!
Keep on Rock n
At a point in my life just get in my car at night and drive for hours .hitting replay .clear my head .get myself back in the race.

Best of the best! Hello from Richmond. California!

Awesome songwriting AND performing.
Saw them live at the concert on Canada day Keele/Sheppard.... unbeatable
what a guitarist, first time ever watching video of the band. I was first introduced to Red Rider in my youth in the 80's. Always been my favourite album Neruda to this day.
The Canadian Pink Floyd. Love them.
Ils n'ont pas eu la reconnaissance qu'ils méritaient! Cet album était fantastique, j'ai encore le CD !
Tom did receive the Order of Canada in 2008...imagine that.
Magical Music!
I love the drummers presence 👍 he's really into the groove whole band is excellent!
😎
The way he smacks that steel guitar at 4:46. Just WOW!
Floyd like intro!
I can see it on the road ahead
Running hard I'm here
But I could be there instead
Many houses with the lights on
Silhouettes behind the shades
Beside fires
I'm sure that I saw you in one
I loved you but
That was way back then
Now I'm alone outside
I face the wind
The rain washes me thin
Working two jobs .at night I drove truck to Toronto.saw peoples houses with the lights on .
Red Ryder and Roll...
Timeless Classic...
I love this song
Love that slide guitar sound!
Amazing song 💘 the begining so 😎
Red Rider's Lunatic Fringe was featured on Miami Vice
.... and an episode of Eastbound and Down ....
it was in the opening scene of "Smugglers Blues" which featured Glenn Frey as a Pilot.
I think "Can't get Back" was too, wasn't it?
It was basically the theme song for "Vision Quest"
Lunatic Fringe, pure desert music. I love that one.
Wow forgot about theses guys
Brilliant stuff.
Gran banda...
Great music, great band. Luv Luv them!!! Carry on guys....xoLoLa
He was really rockin the back to the future look.😁
Love that steel guitar!
Ken Greer is simply the best.
goose bumps👌👍
The Steinberger bass is due for a comeback.
It should become mandatory to publish the date that the art was recorded and at which venue. this info has always interested me for whatever reason. maybe love.
I'm guessing this is something like 83 or 84.
Tom Cochran n Red Rider should have a reunion album..To all who agree, say I...!!!!!!!!!!!! NICKY FROM NB BRUNSWICK
yes
Never drive to this song unless you want a speeding ticket!
would be nice to know where and when this was. Just saying
Circa 83-84, based on the gear they're using, would be the when. Couldn't tell ya the where though.
wow.
Psychedelic!!
Re-enjoyment! :-)
Walker winnipeg ???
I Have to Hear Her...
Ah POP music dies each time I hear this tune.
definitely this song influenced the War on Drugs
I hear it, too!
What kind of bass guitar do they call that thing lol?
Steinberger L2, almost every bass players in the 80's had one... Great bass!
Are they in a gymnasium? Lol
Once the base hits the energy kicks in. Tom kinda over doing it a bit lol but one of my favorite songs
Jam
🤘🏻
He should not have left that band behind. The sum is greater than the parts.
He didnt ! Jeff and kenny still are playing with him!!!
🤘⚡️🤘⚡️🤘⚡️
Love this version...methinks a lil coke inspired such a lively rendition. 😉
Is that a Les Paul?

Odd to see Tom without a guitar during a song
One of the best original Canadian artist's songs... compared with Gordon Lightfoot and Anne Murray and Gord Downy
Tom should of had a guitar...
Shame the bassist never gets any shots unless they're the frontman.
Jeff Jones..he was in Rush in the beginning. It was Alex Lifeson,John Rutsey,Jeff Jones...
Could be Trump's song?
Great plan Trump's song !
We gotta let him know!
@@samp7003 um, probably he already does......afterall, he Is THE LAST TRUMP, um, yeah?

We can add stealing to his long list of crimes.
This is the sound of a dog farting in his water bowl
This is the most horrid musical thiing Ive ever seen. And Ive seen Depeche Mode!!
Tom Cochrane's voice is pretty rough. Must be late in the tour.
