  • Starting his club cricket at Rajasthan Sports Club, for whom he got a hundred in the Kanga League, and graduating to Dadar Union Sporting Club, Sunil Gavaskar’s local cricket journey was nothing short of memorable. Throw in his school and college cricket at the St Xavier’s institutions and you’ll get a feel of Mumbai cricket’s tapestry. The tough, ruthless and at times, not-so-fair world of city cricket is displayed in the form of a two-year gap between his two first-class games for Mumbai (1967-68 to 1969-70).
But runs mattered finally, runs which became the main act in the Sunil Gavaskar story.
This special episode of the Mumbai Cricket Podcast with Clayton Murzello, to coincide with Sunil Gavaskar turning 75 on July 10, is not to be missed. #sunilgavaskar #cricketpodcast #mumbaicricket #bombaycricket #cricketnews #cricket #sports

Great to hear Mr Gavaskar!! True champion. He has said that Dravid should be honoured with a Bharat Ratna but I say he is ahead of Dravid and Kapil Dev in the queue. No one is more deserving than Mr Gavaskar. Dravid’s idol was Mr Gavaskar and he would more than agree with that. God bless you sir.

Very much lively and conducive days of cricket in the first half of 70 decade. I very much vividly remember that on my way return to home after attending college at B road Churchgate, I engrossed my remained time in watching these times shield matches from the Marine lines rly station bridge , having a close view of the two matches played on the Hindu and Islam gymkhanas at a same time.

Our college days were brightened with Sunny and his cricket,
that Benson& Hedges World Series Cup he lifted as a captain,
    breaking Bradman's record,
that Nagpur Century in 87 world cup,
the way he faced Marshals, Bothams, Hadlees, Imrans,
Later his excellent commentary in the box...
till now our generation enjoying his quality talks on current matches,.....
I remember Sunny wrote an article or a letter to School cricketer Sachin on his prodigal talents, published in Sports star ( well before Sachin's entry into 1st class cricket )...
Thank you Sunny... You go on and on like this... Stay blessed👍

I have followed Gavaskar’s career from his school days. He was a prolific scorer and was doing well at University level. Mr Vijay Merchant gave him a break and picked him for West Indies tour. He is an exception that by then he had not played for Mumbai Ranji team

My childhood hero later on during my school days I used to switch off running commentary on radio whenever he used to be in nineties. This used to test my patience as he took his own time to reach 100 ___ 25 mins 45 mins or even an hour

I absolutely loved the podcast especially because it focuses entirely on Bombay local cricket. Would have been even better if Sunny's brain had been picked on famous Ranji matches and playing against some unsung bowlers and batsmen, players who didn't really make it to the top... That would have been great.

So many memories of this man. So many anecdotes shared by him. The third ball he faced of Marshall during the Nagpur odi century he knocked it over the slips for a boundary and Fredun de vitre the commentator went "woah! That is unlike the Gavaskar we know".

Sunil Gavaskar is the very best batsman the world has seen till today. No Tendulkar & certainly no Kohli. Kohli is no batsman. Ask him to face Jimmy Anderson successfully for 6 deliveries & u will know what quality he is. If one wants to see real, classy batting, watch Gavaskar. It will be exhilarating.

Praising a slow player like Gavaskar is insult to top talent like Tendulkar or Kohli . He survived due to his connections. Today a player like Gavaskar won’t be able to play for club level let alone India . With the chances that he received any one wud have scored that many centuries. Today a flop player like him won’t survive more than a series . But back then they kept him for years without performance. His 36 out of 174 balls in a one day and 1983 World Cup play is well known.

    Gavaskar bole Kamla Pasand.
Sarkar's Hitman is sitting in the commentary box targetting top players to unsettle them by trolling and using malice. Who is that?
Is Gavaskar the PK of cricket? Analyst who denied having taken the Supari during election times.
Gavaskar, arguably the great cricketer has been tightly slapped twice this year by one of the All Time Greats- Virat Kohli- for trolling him. Once during IPL and again by winning the MOM in T20 2024 WC final. Was Gavaskar left out on that day?
Rahul Dravid walks the talk. Not paper tiger.
Comentry tiger grown too old to catch up with the current form of cricket and the skills and mindset of the players who, unlike the legend, abhor ignominy of scoring 36 in 60 overs. World record!
Dogs bark enogh to be noticed by the Caravan?
God of cricket alone deserves BR.
Is Bolo Zuban Kesri good and easy enough to desire BR?
Raja sarkar. Feudal state. Non Biological. Sholay. MA Pol Sci ¿?¿
    Anything is possible.
Make hay while the Sun is shining. Hurry up time may be running out fast for raja sarkar.

Gutkha sellers cant be role models . Disgusting to even interview such sportsmen . What is his message to young cricketers? Eat Gutkha ? Look at how dignified Tendulkar and Dravid behave .please don’t idolise Gutkha sellers .
