    From bridge to neck, when the "expander" switch is towards the neck, the options are:
    1. Neck and Bridge
    2. All 3
    3. Middle pickup only
    4. All 3
    5. Neck and Bridge

      Thank you for clarifying.

  • @Vern859
    @Vern859 4 роки тому +1

    The 2 & 4 position when expander switch is up is all 3 pickups at the same time. 1 and 5 is neck and bridge. Middle is the middle.
    S500 is a great guitar.

    I have an American G&L Legacy and it's the best guitar I have ever played, sounds strattier than my American fender

    I've played G&Ls since 1981. Two features you didn't mention are the Master Treble and Bass control knobs, and the great floating bridge that can bend both ways and stays in tune.

    It's the Gilmour 7-way switch. I had that installed on my 50euro SX guitar. Cost me about 25euros but made it sound 4x as good.

    I have the tribute, nice guitar. Using the second toggle switch, the first and fifth positions are Each neck and bridge. The second and fourth positions are each all three pickups. Middle position is just the middle as usual.

    The thing about g and ls and their mdf pickups is that you really have to ride the tone and volume. I like that alot but people don't think to not put the tone at 10 all the time. I play on an ASAT their t type and i love the thing more then any other guitar ive played.

    Yeah baby! I've got a G/L F100 original proto type 1981 cherry collector's awesome screamer double humbucker split pickups ebony fret board...etc...nothing compares with it. Thanks for demoing this one Marty.

  • @lucdeschenaux422
    @lucdeschenaux422 2 роки тому

    It must be noted that you get an awesome palette of sounds while playing with tone and volume controls on the S500 which are nothing like a strat. Not talking about using a tube (pre)amp (heaven), but just plug it in anything and you're already blown away with how it sounds.... (Nothing like a strat where you cry when you have to plug directily in the mixing console).

    Love my S500.........and my Legacy............and, O yeah, love my Comanche too!!! Even the Imported Tribute line is great - G&L uses the same pickups in their imports as they do in their USA models .

    • @jayjayanthony5883
      @jayjayanthony5883 4 роки тому

      Yes! And precisely the reason of the same pickups being used in the Imports, is the reason I will be buying the tributes until I can afford the USA models.

  • @30smsuperstrat

    I’ve got a early 2000’s Tribute version that is just awesome! Mine is apparently a special edition with an ash body and maple fretboard. I’m totally floored with how versatile it is. The only thing sonically for me that I might choose would be a mahogany body. If there’s anyone in the Seattle area that wants to trade a mahogany body for an ash let me know.

  • @Joe_whatuknow
    @Joe_whatuknow 6 років тому +1

    I've got an 04 or 05 tribute S500 when they were still made in South Korea and you could get the tributes with ash bodies and maple fretboards (They stopping giving you those options when they moved it tribute line to Thialand). It's an amazing guitar. A friend has asked me why I haven't sold it and replaced it with a "real Fender" so I let borrow it for a while so he could understand how high quality of an instrument it is. It's worth so much more to me than the $400 I could get in the used market.

    Could you pls do top 10 riffs of all time.

  • @bmxryan
    @bmxryan 6 років тому

    Great review. G&L s500 owners need to know how to work the bass and treble tone knob. These guitars are not like standard strats where you roll the knob up to 10. You can, but you can also get many other great tones by dialing back the knobs. On my USA s500 for example - if I want a thinner strat sound I roll the knobs back around 6-7 along with the volume to a 7. Basically, you can get countless amounts of tones adjusting the knobs, volume, and pickup selections.

    • @Im_alex_h
      @Im_alex_h 5 років тому

      @bmxryan what would you recommend setting the knobs to to get a classic Hendrix/Frusciante style clean tone? I’m using a legacy though, not an s500.

    Nice guitar, and you are getting great tones out of it. My only complaint about strats is the switch location. I sometimes hit it while strumming in the neck position. Locking tuners! : )
