I have never worked with FX9 footage so can't guarantee anything. That said, as far as I know it uses the same codec and file structure as the FS7 so I would expect the footage to behave the same within Avid. I honestly haven't tried this trick on 22.10, but just rechecked it on 2021.9.0 (latest version I have handy) and it worked fine. So possible it was something that changed between those versions, though not sure why that would suddenly stop working, OR that it's a difference between FX9 and FS7, though again that seems relatively unlikely. My advice would be to try it again and make sure to check every setting on the relink. For instance I noticed on 2021.9 the default is only to look at files with the same resolution as the project, which in the demo case (UHD footage, HD sequence) would've meant the relink wouldn't work. I'll also note I've seen this being glitchy if the footage moves locations or is on a different drive, or even if you unlink then quit then come back in and try to do the relink afterward. So if you're having issues try just doing a single clip and all those steps right in a row, double-checking every setting, and hopefully it'll work out then. If not, maybe screenrecord what you're trying and post that, and I'll look and see if I notice anything weird. Good luck!
@@filmprofmark Thanks... the relink menu has changed. I'm not sure why it'd get redesigned and then not work... but that seems to be what's happening (sigh) - this is the only workaround Ive seen that deals with extra audio files in bulk. Although - I wonder now that I type if I may be able to shut down tracks 2-8 in camera maybe. anyhow, if I figure something out I'll put it here.
Can you go over tape capture please!!!!lol The audio is the only thing picking up but the video tab on the deck in avid media does not highlight. It keeps saying channel select
Sorry but tape capture is a tough thing to cover/troubleshoot on a video tutorial, because there are so many variables (what type of tape, what deck, how is it connected to the system, etc.). I was teaching editing through the late analog tape era and the DV era, and there're just so many things that can trip it up that there's no good universal advice. Heck, even in a lab setting where we controlled all the computers and they all had the same deck, there were all sorts of issues, and any time we changed out any hardware or new version of the software or whatever there were new issues/troubleshooting. So anything I post would likely work for most people/situations. I'd suggest checking and/or posting to the Avid forums which are helpful for this sort of technical troubleshooting. Make sure to post your specific configuration: what form is the tape in, what deck is it, how's it connected to the computer, what version of Avid are you on, etc. Likely someone there who has experience with the same configuration will post a response appropriate to your situation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to create these highly appreciated Avid MC tutorials, it helps tremendously.
You're welcome, glad they're useful!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I was losing my mind. This is extremely helpful.
Glad it was helpful! Please spread the word to others who might find it useful!
hmmm... trying this technique to dump audio / data tracks w/ FX9 footage and its not letting me relink (22.10)?

This request falls under importing video from a Sony tape deck. I know it's old school but needed. Thanks
See other reply: the issue isn't that it's old-school but that there are too many variables to give reliable advice without more info.
