    The fact Sophie wanted to collect all the recycling and do good for the planet, even during such a terrible time, speaks highly of her character and kind heart. Her story really sent a chill up my spine, everything can be going fine until one accident, one bad day and then you’re living a life you never dreamed of. Auri I don’t know if it’s allowed or something you’re interested in but I think it would be great if you or Sophie’s friends did a fundraiser to get her a bed. The bucket you cleaned that you didn’t know what it was is urine and #2 residue I think. Sophie is in pain and not getting around easily, part of that is bc she’s trapped on a couch that isn’t good for her body. She needs a hospital bed. She also needs grab bars in the bathroom and everything in her cabinets needs to be reachable (you didn’t notice but the top shelf in her medicine cabinet was empty before you rearranged and I think that’s why). AK, I have a tip for you! When cleaning a microwave like Sophie's, a great first step is to put about 500 ml of plain water in a microwave-safe container and microwave it on high for about 10 minutes. The steam starts to loosen up the gunk inside the microwave with no chemicals needed! I know you are promoting some cleaning products and they will still be needed, but the pre-cleaning with steam is a big time-saver.

    • @larsonfamilyhouse
      @larsonfamilyhouse 2 роки тому +15

      I looked into it and it doesn’t seem to be safe to use a microwave after it has gotten this dirty because there’s holes inside and the old mold particles and germs can actually recontaminate the food. I would love to see a science experiment to know if that’s actually true and if there’s any way you can fix it! I suppose this microwave was being used in the before condition though (obviously) so as of right now there’s probably 80-90% less germs to go back into the food so it’s a lot safer than it was previously, that’s for certain!

    Thank you for highlighting the issue chronic illnesses play in cleaning.
    95% of life for chronic illness means forced bed rest.
    A good day most is taking a shower.
    A lot of adult chronic patients don't have family support so you either hire help or accept that cleaning isn't a priority after your 10th or so ER visit for trying to clean

      even with temporary medical issues it's so easy to fall behind.
      I blew out my knee, then developed blood clots in my leg & lungs. I had to spend over a week in ICU, 2 emergency surgeries & my recovery is prospected to last at least 6 months. during this time I have found it so difficult to do simple household tasks. I get exhausted and because of the knee injury I cant stand for more than a few minutes. I count my blessings daily; to have a partner who comes home from work and helps keep up all the chores around the house.

      I have MS, Degenerative Disc Disease, Fibromyalgia, Spinal Stenosis, a large inoperable cyst on my spine, a chronic fracture in my spine (like Sophie, doctors dismissed my pain and missed it in Xrays, so I was walking around for days with it. Now it is what they called a "chronic" fracture and will NEVER heal) and arthritis in my hips and spine- All at the age of 33. My home is much like Sophies. Sometimes I don't shower for weeks until the smell of myself becomes unbearable. I have a shower seat, but even lifting my arms up to wash my hair causes intense pain, and when I do wash or brush my hair, handful after handful of clumps come out. This is no way to live. I may be breathing and my heart may be beating, but there is no life in me.

    Another enjoyable house cleaning. I almost died in a car accident years ago. Now I have arthritis in all my major joints & pain management is part of my life. I keep my place clean, but it is a struggle. I have learned that I have to work in small time periods to accomplish what I could do in an hour or two. I appreciate your cleaning tips, which makes things easier. You are such a wonderful person for helping others like you do. I'm glad they are doing a news story about you. You deserve it.

      I hear you@Marsha Brubaker. I had terminal cancer with a two year prognosis. After 12 years on chemo, I’m in remission. Yay! Stopped the chemo a year ago but I’ll never be the same. Pain and neuropathy is part of my existence and keeping a clean house is hard. It’s especially hard when too hot or too cold water hurts your hands all the way through your body! I sure wish we could hose things down in the US like in Finland, it’d be so much nicer to have a bathroom like that. (But nobody has bathtubs?)
      My house doesn’t look like any of these as my grandkids come over regularly, but it certainly isn’t to the standard I’d have been at if I’d gotten to stay healthy. I feel sad for those who have descended to the place where they just cannot clean at all. Katarina’s sympathy and understanding is what all housekeepers should have. (I just found her so apologies as I’m certain I got her name wrong).

      @@MetsterAnn I happy to hear that the two year diagnosis was incorrect. My BIL is having chemo the next three days as part of his treatment plan to keep his leukemia in remission. He has a rare form of leukemia and they're predicting 5 years. I wish we didn't suffer with so much pain, which impacts every aspect of our lives. I do what I can and thank God I am still mobile although every movement is painful. I had a good pain management program at my last place and once I'm settled again,will look at my options. Take good care of yourself.

    I just wanted to leave a comment saying how much I adore the diplomacy and lack of judgment during this video. It’s not our place to judge, but your bringing to light the occupants story, and advocating for mental health, really means a lot

    Auri is like the dirt whisperer getting out all of the stains that don't want to budge. Love it. I also really feel for Sophie, it's so hard to keep on top of things when even showering is painful (speaking from experience) and then it's even harder to get control once it's dirty. I'm lucky to have my mum and partner to help but it was so embarrassing asking my mum to come help me get control of my space. Sophie must feel so much better in the space now and can hopefully keep on top of it herself or has help

    Watching your videos made me " pardon myself and understand me " , when i couldnt do it i was no dirty , i was ill, when i punish myself for not being able to to do it and made me suffer even more... it was nos me being lazy but being ill. And much more, thank you you are more therapeutic than many mental health professional. What you are doing is opening the door to pain, suffer and human stories that they are just so well presented in the state of their houses. The most safe place made unsafe and crazy is the perfect picture of how healthy brains are ... You are doing the greatest job , respecfully , clear and clean. Thank you soooo very much

    This is so awesome and I'm sure Sophie feels much better in her home. The only advice I have though is for people who are wheelchair-bound, it is helpful to have items shelved in only the lower cabinet shelves in the upper cabinets so they are able to easily reach them. I do not know Sophie's exact situation, so she may be able to sometimes stand and reach, but it is better to have them lower so she doesn't have to strain herself.
