She has a good chance at medals in 5 events in a single Olympics,, which is definitely a GOAT performance n modern (post WW 2) track and field. 4:58 Mayb she can long jump to round out 6 events?

400 and 400 hurdles easy gold if healthy and peaked, maybe a medal on 200 and almost surely gold in 4×4 and 4×4 mixed (there are a few european teams that are dangerous like poland and netherlands).
Femke Bol (Netherlands) is in fine form in the 400. She may be able to push Syd McL i'm not sure if Femke will run in both 400 and 400H. She is expected to run 4:58 in the two 400 relays (women and mixed.)

The 200 and 400H though mostly line up on the same days so doing them both is basically impossible. If she were to attempt it, she'd have about 10 minutes from the 200m final to get ready for the 400h semis
In physiological energy specifics. 10mins will replenish some of her atp/pcr system, she will have to rely on her glycolytic system which train athletes should have significant stores and recovery rates. I believe she can do it based on the massive amounts of research I have read over the years.
Several month back, there was a request to have the w400h and the w400m adjusted so that both her and Bol could run both. Not what has come of it, but that is my pick, with the 200m out.
She also has an Olympic qualifying time in the 100 Hurdles, in one attempt. How many women have been out there battling all season to get a qualification mark?
At the US trials, Sydney will have a crazy running schedule, including two consecutive days with two races each, and 29 and 45 minutes respectively between race starts: Day 7 (June 27th): 17:51 200M R1 18:20 400mh R1 Day 8: (June 28th): 18:21 400mh SF 19:06 200m SF Fortunately they are both heats and semifinals, but still it's really pushing it!
If everyone who watched Syd McL's shoes switched to the 800m, then there will be only 1 competitior in the 400m, 400H., and 1,000 in the 800m. I think Bol is a likely medalist in both 400m and 400H, and possbly the 4 x 400, and 4 x 400 mixed. She may end up with 4 medals, but probably not a gold.
400m makes sense. 200m was a massive eye opener and taking down Gabby Thomas and Abby Steiner... that was just crazy. And it wasn't just a win, it was a thrashing. I just say, Go Syd. Whichever you do, you will succeed. But please don't throw away the 400mH - would love to see you go sub 50.
Same with Abby S. Abby is still tweaking herself. In a previous race just a few weeks before steiner ran the same time that Sydney posted from this win. But wow! Sydney looked fabulous in this race. INTERESTING
I think she's just keeping her options open, don't expect her to run all 3 events even though I'd love to see it the risk of injury would be too great.
She wouldn't have to run in the preliminary rounds in the relay- I believe the team can change their runners for the final. I think those who just ran in the preliminary round qualify for medals also.
I would tend to think if she did all three she'd end up injured again. She's not someone who does a lot of racing like Bol or Steiner. Then again you only live once, and she already has gold.. so maybe doing something that redicilous is the plan. Recall she did say she had hoped to break 22 in LA. Seems like this may have been part of the plan.

She can not run the 400 and 400h and the 200. Anyone that ran track knows this. The recovery needed, between multiple rounds of running, at the Olympics, will exhasut her. Not feasible. Plus, she may get a bid to run the 400x4 as well.
Not gonna happen. The 400 hurdles and the 400 flat maybe. Getting a good result against specialist runners at a different distance is doable early season, but by the time that they peak for the US trials, even Super Syd would struggle. If you can't run sub 20, and Sydney hasn't, there's little chance of making the final never mind qualifying for the Olympics. So I'd guess that it's just more mind games from her camp.
I doubt she'll do the 3 events because when it gets to the Olympics it would be 3 events plus the 4x400. It's too much for any athlete to do. She would be running a minimum of 10 races in 7 days. And that's If she gets to 3 individual finals.
What if she run a high 48 or even a low 49 at NY? Would she still not run the 400 flat at Paris??? I guess she'll run both 400s at the trials, right? Because she wants to be part of the US relay. Then, if she run, in the same competition, a mid 51 on the hurdles and a high 48 on the flat, I REALLY hope she changes her mind and decides to run both 400s on Paris... C'mon!!! She can do it! That would be EPIC!
As for the 200, no way! She knows she can't outcompete the sprinters in an Olympic final. Besides, 200 flat and 400 hurdles are in the same day. Both 400s would be already EPIC. And don't forget the relays!
This triple listing is entirely to give McLaughlin options. She will watch how other specialists do and choose the events she and her coach believe she can win gold in. The 400m IH is a lock. The open 400m is also likely as long as the prelim schedule works. The 200m is the least likely. There are so many women who can run low 21s, which Sidney has never done, but will they? She will be watching how they progress, and who knows? And she will likely be dropped into the 4x400m relay final as well, so that’s a second lock for gold.

Two events, given the scheduling, is entirely possible IF she comes out of the first event healthy. IF the scheduling for THREE events was over TWO WEEKS, instead of one, she could realistically consider 3, BUT ITS NOT. So reality is, maybe two. Johnson did it. She would be the first woman to do it. And yes, I know Johnson did it in the NON HURDLE 400, but the distances are the same. It would be unique.
She won’t do the 200. The timing of the 200 and 400mh heats are like 15 minutes apart. She won’t do the 400 either as it is too taxing along with the 400mh. The best bet is she does the 400mh and the 4x400
A few weeks ago wasn't there an interview after the LA Grand Prix when Kersee said Sydney would be available for the 200m, 400m, 400mH AND the 4x400 at the Olympics IF she made the team? He also said that Athing Mu would be available for the 800m and the 4x400m. And since she's running the open 400m at the NYGP anything is possible. Kersee just keeps emphasizing, "IF she's healthy." In ATL he was asked about Mu and he said she was joining them in ATL and they'd train there for a week and that she may run in a smaller meet in CA before the trials, if not, she'd get in 3 races at the trials. Hey, at least people will stop complaining that they don't run enough. 🤣

if it was the 4x400m i could understand it as quite often teams rest their best runners to keep them fresh for the final so that would eliminate the qualifying rounds for that but like u said i think theres a little smokescreen being thrown up by her coach to keep the competition guessing at what else she will actually do along with the 400mh, i would luv to see her pull that triple off but its a big ask imo and i wouldnt want her to strain herself for it

I see this as a McLaughlin/Kersey fake. They are playing the competition as well as she dominates them on the track. I could potentially see a 200/400H combo. But we have to remember that she will also be on the 4x4 team. That's a lot of racing in a short time. I don't see the triple as a possibility. It would risk a loss.
Presumably she'll be on two 4 x 4 teams: 4 x 400 womens, and 4 x 400 mixed. Syd McL does not have to run in the heats of the relays, she can substitute in for the finals. The point is that she is favourite to win 4 golds (400, 400H, and the two 4 x 400 relays). Can she win the 200m as well? If so, she would be the first T&F athlete to win 5 gold medals at a single Olympics. Being the GOAT is doing something that everyone says can't be done. If Syd McL wins 5, she is the GOAT of T & F. Before Syd McL, the WR for the 400H was in the mid 52s. Running under 53 was a world class time. Now, Syd McL's WR for the event is 50.08--she knocked over 2 secs off the WR, and she is close to running under 50 secs. Traininig for the 400H is good for your 400m (flat) times.

As for the 200, no way! She knows she can't outcompete the sprinters in an Olympic final. Besides, 200 flat and 400 hurdles are in the same day. Both 400s would be already EPIC. And don't forget the relays!
She’ll be in the 4x4 regardless. Just like she was in 2019, 2021 and 2022. She doesn’t need to run the open 400 for that.

This triple listing is entirely to give McLaughlin options. She will watch how other specialists do and choose the events she and her coach believe she can win gold in. The 400m IH is a lock. The open 400m is also likely as long as the prelim schedule works. The 200m is the least likely. There are so many women who can run low 21s, which Sidney has never done, but will they? She will be watching how they progress, and who knows? And she will likely be dropped into the 4x400m relay final as well, so that’s a second lock for gold.

Two events, given the scheduling, is entirely possible IF she comes out of the first event healthy. IF the scheduling for THREE events was over TWO WEEKS, instead of one, she could realistically consider 3, BUT ITS NOT. So reality is, maybe two. Johnson did it. She would be the first woman to do it. And yes, I know Johnson did it in the NON HURDLE 400, but the distances are the same. It would be unique.

She won’t do the 200. The timing of the 200 and 400mh heats are like 15 minutes apart. She won’t do the 400 either as it is too taxing along with the 400mh. The best bet is she does the 400mh and the 4x400
A few weeks ago wasn't there an interview after the LA Grand Prix when Kersee said Sydney would be available for the 200m, 400m, 400mH AND the 4x400 at the Olympics IF she made the team? He also said that Athing Mu would be available for the 800m and the 4x400m. And since she's running the open 400m at the NYGP anything is possible. Kersee just keeps emphasizing, "IF she's healthy." In ATL he was asked about Mu and he said she was joining them in ATL and they'd train there for a week and that she may run in a smaller meet in CA before the trials, if not, she'd get in 3 races at the trials. Hey, at least people will stop complaining that they don't run enough. 🤣
Mu is not qualified for the 400m. Her PB is 50.52

if it was the 4x400m i could understand it as quite often teams rest their best runners to keep them fresh for the final so that would eliminate the qualifying rounds for that but like u said i think theres a little smokescreen being thrown up by her coach to keep the competition guessing at what else she will actually do along with the 400mh, i would luv to see her pull that triple off but its a big ask imo and i wouldnt want her to strain herself for it

I see this as a McLaughlin/Kersey fake. They are playing the competition as well as she dominates them on the track. I could potentially see a 200/400H combo. But we have to remember that she will also be on the 4x4 team. That's a lot of racing in a short time. I don't see the triple as a possibility. It would risk a loss.
Presumably she'll be on two 4 x 4 teams: 4 x 400 womens, and 4 x 400 mixed. Syd McL does not have to run in the heats of the relays, she can substitute in for the finals. The point is that she is favourite to win 4 golds (400, 400H, and the two 4 x 400 relays). Can she win the 200m as well? If so, she would be the first T&F athlete to win 5 gold medals at a single Olympics. Being the GOAT is doing something that everyone says can't be done. If Syd McL wins 5, she is the GOAT of T & F. (Well Usain Bolt is still the GOAT in my mind.) A Kersey fake? No, I don't think so. McL is so good, you don't have to worry about mind games. Just show her the way to the start line.

I would love to see her focus on the 200 and 400. That's what she should have been doing all along. Why they steered this once in a generation athlete towards the hurdles is beyond me.
Before Syd McL, the WR for the 400H was in the mid 52s. Running under 53 was a world class time. Now, Syd McL's WR for the event is 50.08--she knocked over 2 secs off the WR, and she is close to running under 50 secs. Traininig for the 400H is good for your 400m (flat) times.
