Early B52's was very experimental. They became much more fun and mainstream later in the 80s
Yup and I prefer *EARLY* The B-52’s eg “Dance This Mess Around”, “Quiche Lorraine”, “Strobe Light”, Private Idaho”, “Song For A Future Generation”, “Legal Tender”. As is always the case with artists who start out in the fringes like these guys did in Athens, GA is that when you have a commercial hit like “Love Shack”, you’re defined by it. The masses don’t realize that these guys were ahead of their time and put out some really cool music that wasn’t watered down for Top 40 airplay.
I don't see how early B52 are less funny than later
@@JulioLeonFandinho The way I interpreted the original post was that by the time The B-52’s released “Love Shack” and “Roam”, they were more accessible to pop radio. Their music from the late 70’s/early 80’s wouldn’t have been a comfortable fit in the Top 40 landscape. I heard “Planet Claire” on alternative radio. At the time, it just didn’t fit in with the likes of Billy Joel and Donna Summer.
Fun, crazy, funky, but great musicians with some great music. Those early B52 albums are full of great songs. So, 80s. Dance this mess around.
This was the BEST party song
Okay, okay… we will all focus on the strangeness but take a moment and consider the mechanics. Kate is doing SOOOO much in this composition. She’s providing a bass line, covering the melody, and vocals… AT THE SAME TIME! She and Cindy were really a class act. Yes, the tunes were occasionally “original” but a person should never come to the conclusion these folks didn’t take their craft seriously. They were unusual, but God love em!
This was the opening track on their debut album. This was how the B-52's chose to introduce themselves to the public. I love them.
You got the vibe down. Always dance weird to this and most of their early songs. This was very college geek party music back in the day.
*THAT* was on campus but go downtown and you’ve got a totally diff take on The B-52’s.
"Dance This Mess Around" is another fun one from their first album.
Another great one from them is Give me back my Man., you would like it.
Dance This Mess Around 🔥
Mesopotamia was the first B52's album I bought. Hooked ever since. Mesopotamia, Throw That Beat In The Garbage Can and Nip It In The Bud, are fun tracks.
Yup with the _original_ “Butterbean”. 👌🏾
You better toss that beat.
...
It's driving me crazy! Ah hahahaha.
Yes the B-52s are weird, but for sure in the best way.
We had so much fun at college parties with the B-52's back in the day ...
That is one mean guitar!
They created their own style of music.
Smooooth!
You would love "Strobe Light"
I missed this reaction! OMG, Planet Claire is deep dive late 70's frat rock-meets pop. If you could identify this song and the band, you were coooool. If you couldn't, who needs you?
Yes. This is always the right place to enter the B52s rabbit hole.
It is always a shame when reactors start with Love Shack and think that is the B52s. They were never the same after Ricky died and a lot of original 52s fans were pretty disenchanted with the Love Shack era.
💯
Please do more 70’s B-52’s 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
52 Girls
Dance This Mess Around
Private Idaho
Give Me Back My Man
Mesopotamia (80’s)
……all 🔥🔥🔥❤️
Totally fun dance band. Biggest thing out of Athens, Georgia till REM got huge. Love their first album.
Love this song!!!!! ❤
Hearing this for the first time at 11 years young, at a hockey rink in Canada. Hooked ever since, what a gem.
Okay this makes 2 of their songs I've heard and liked. Her voice along with the keys she's playing is cool.
This has the Peter Gunn vibe.
Perfect for this channel as there's about a handful of more popular songs I would pick before working my way to this. Rock Lobster, Roam, Love Shack, Private Idaho, Dance this mess around..etc.
Nicely done here is a music suggestion for you
Maria Muldaur - Midnight At The Oasis (1974)
Sweet! Coulda been the soundtrack to the hippest 1960's sci-fi movie never made! 😃
*THANK YOU DON TAYLOR FOR THE REQUEST* 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Worth watchin again.
You now gotta do B52s Quiche Lorraine
This is one of the better lesser hits. Dance This Mess Around is also reaction worthy. Super fun song like all of their others.
Saw them live, wow
What people don't realize is that R.E.M. was the 3rd string of Athens, GA bands. Pylon was 2nd, maybe 1st.
Very good song.
The early B-52s were seriously different, wonderfully unique and highly danceable. There songs were rarely complicated, but they were always just so much fun. I highly recommend My Private Idaho and Quiche Lorraine. To me personally, once they lost their guitarist, who tragically passed way too early in his life, their sound never was anywhere near as good. I know I'm in the minority, but I can't stand Love Shack for it's dependence on repetitious vocals and none of the weird substance that their earlier works embraced.
Another fun one to try is one from the lead singer's solo efforts, Monster In My Pants.
I know Love Shack which was great to dance to, and Meet the Flintstones. I hadn't heard this earlier one and I agree a bit weird in some ways but interesting the way they used the instruments-Colin Ward
My favorite 😍 song by them is the live performance of 🪨 Rock 🦞 Lobster that goes on for a long time! I forget the length, but it's an experience listening and watching that live performance! This one 🕐🕜 is also trippy and Lost In 🌌🚀 Spacey!
Far out jamm!
Your reaction is pretty accurate! 🙈 See ya!
They in a lot movies and tv show and video great music and they were in the flintstones
An obviously acquired taste but The B52s have an enormous fan base... Their first few albums were EPIC and the loss of Ricky Wilson (who died from AIDS) was enormous.... But they were able to move on and their commercial success with Love Shack and Roam brought new fans ❤
PETER GUN. Thats the beat for this song. Very famous.
You may not put this song in your phone, but you would definitely be cool if this was your phone’s ringtone.
I just realised this is Plymouth hoe in the UK, that's Drakes island behind them. I'm like 5 miles away lol
Great reaction as usual. I was wondering if you ever do reactions of newer music, say from the 90's and up? Or at least from the late 80's instead of the late 70's and early 80's. I ask because I noticed most of the people who do reactions tend to do the same songs which covers about maybe around 100 to 150 songs, but there's a lot of amazing music from later that you should check out. ✌
The B-52s gave us all liscense to be as weird as we wanted to be.
Seems to be based on the Peter Gunn theme
Great new wave band
Try Private Idaho and Dirty Back Roads.
Roam. Revolution Earth, and Dreamland are newer B52’s that have a pretty good vibe. Older B52’s is a little more punk.
YES! "Revolution Earth!" See my comment on this thread even before I read yours. Thank You for acknowling that gem, it's my most favorite B-52's song ever!
I realize that women get very defensive about their hair, but this style right hers is fantastic.
Interesting! But it was fun!! 😅
classic
B 52's is one of the best bands of the 80ties, planet claire is not on my B52's top 10 songs ... For sure it was a amazing and unique band .... I love them
Trees are red, this is some joker for planet Claire.
"weird, sci-fi" this is an homage to 50s sc-fi movies. Baby boomers get it.
He might have been talking about Mars?
The B-52's were groundbreaking and evolved over time. Take a listen to "Revolution Earth" from their 1992 album "Good Stuff" which is a criminally underrated album. "Revolution Earth is both beautifil and magical. I think it's the B-52s' best song and a hidden gem most fans don't readily acknowledge. Kate Pierson's voice is soaring in this song! Here's a link, enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/vErWRtJ4-rE/v-deo.html
They're other hit was Raom
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😄😄
never quite the same band after Ricky Wilson died
Hi Angela.... I have a great new artist for you to react to - Amanda Marshall. She is a superstar singer-songwriter from Canada. Her debut album came out in the mid 90's and she became famous because Elton john publicly praised her music. There is not one bad song on her debut album. This song, "Birmingham" is about a woman getting the courage to walk out on an abusive relationship. It's a beautiful and powerful song.

Julie London - Cry me a river. This is an older song, but I think it might move you.
Shout out to Peter Gunn...
Definitely a different sound. HAHA

Listen to 53 miles west of Venus
Retrofuturism.
Never try to figure their lyrics. Its the music.
Imagine making the music then gotta figure some crazy nonsensical lyrics to go with it. And it makes my head bob and feet tap.
Try 52 Girls.

Hi Ms. D., Not my favorite group.. ♠W.G.
Trump is being so obviously bullied. That makes me want to support him, i akways support people that get bullied.
Thanks, best laugh I've had all day!
Your comment is as strange as the song. Oh , and no bigger bully than Trump!
@@PlateOshrimp499 Let me guess, you support the hamas democrats. They are the same people bro
@@stangss1 And the giggles keep coming.
