Hya, it would be extremely interesting to European viewers to look at what being offerd at ebay-kleinanzeigen.de - it is an eBay marketplace in a Craigslist style. I got two relativley rare basses there for below market price (Gibsn Flying V 2012 glossy and one Gibson Explorer 2011 Tobacco burst). Keep it up, great channel Senor Austin!

Thanks for the cool vlog entry. I've found some awesome pieces of kit on FB Marketplace over the past two years including an extremely clean Vox AC30C2 amp, a near-mint Moogerfooger MF-108M ClusterFlux pedal, a great Korg Wavestation SR (the grandmother of Korg's new Wavestate synth), a clean Casio CDP-100 electric piano with 88 full hammer-action weighted keys, and a nice pair of concrete planters for my geraniums. I haven't bought an actual guitar there yet, and anyhow I've had to stop because I'm all out of space in my studio and all out of cash in my credit union savings account. It's good if you can visit the seller and actually examine the item before you buy it, but usually, you'll need to commit to the purchase in order to get the meeting.

Your points on listings and key words is so important. I also like old cars and I can't tell you how many ads I've seen for a '34 truck that don't even say the make.. and they expect you to know. But the most commonly misspelled guitars I think are the Squiers. So many think it's Squire.

Hey trogly, I have a Synsonics Terminator MK2, it has the speaker, it's its run by two 9-Volts and all the circuitry is on a single circuit board instead of being wired individually, like all the pots and capacitors are on a board, the guitar's not super great quality but it's got a super rough tone which I enjoy alot, I replaced the tuners because the originals were junky, the bigsby-esque bridge is pretty solid, but fuck does it knock you outta tune. It is really easy to mod though thanks to the proprietary circuitry, I'm planning on popping some Aelita Soviet Union-made pickups into it and really going all out on the customization.
I dont know what the neck is made of, but its bolt on, the guy who owned it before me popped a tusq nut into it.
The body is Masonite, like an old Danelectro or a Kay/Teisco, basically super compressed particle board.
It's a fun guitar though, I am mainly a bass player but I've been learning guitar on it and having a blast, I play mostly like sludgy/heavy distortion stuff so this guitar really does the job for me, but I would not reccomend it if you arent looking for a frankenstrat project that would take a lot of TLC to make it anything worth playing on, but you can get em dirt cheap so you arent dumping much into it regardless lol.

Hey, so you mentioned Guild shapes in comparison to the Kay you were looking at. This is the first time I have heard you mention Guild. Any further thoughts or comments? I have a 90’s D-30 maple with a carved back and gold tuners. It is flamey and has a booming tone. It was manufactured in RI.
Would love a 70’s guild made in USA 12 string of the jumbo variety. But I am not willing to make the investment without seeing and playing the guitar.
In regards to the Epiphone Acoustic with the bolt on neck. That definitely is a 70’s epiphone. The adjustable bridge along with the bolt on neck is the indicator. My first real guitar purchase was an EPI Texan. A twelve string version which was sunburst. It had the bolt on neck. The neck slipped after about five years and drove into the sound hole. I was a 20 year old and knew nothing about guitar maintenance.
Enjoy your channel. Love the reviews. You are pretty good at keeping it interesting. Waiting for you to find the guitar maker/model that makes you play perfectly.

The yellow Tele was made in Korea and is a Fender, not a Squier. The SD pickups are stock. I have the red one and it is well worth taking a look at. They typically sell for 400-500 on Reverb and are great bang for the buck, but are not well known. You might get lucky with an offer with a local purchase. They are really a LP disguised as a Tele. The set neck MIK Squiers are really nice as well. The pickups are Duncan Designed but the build quality is really good.

You can see instruments under the hobbies tab. Also those old Epiphone acoustics are wonderful if you find a good on. The PR-715-12n is a great 12 string. Better, and way cooler than most taylor and martins at that price. They dont hold their value unfortunately, but wow they are sure underrated!

I’ve lucked out on market place a few times. A FSR Black Paisley Tele that just needed pickups for dirt cheap. Also an early 70’s SG that had been in its case for over 30 years. The price wasn’t super cheap but it came with a Gretsch tube amp and several NOS 6L6’s that made the deal pretty sweet.

One thing I HIGHLY recommend people do when they are wanting buy a guitar off of Facebook Marketplace or even Craigslist - whatever town/county the item is being sold in you should get the serial number off of the instrument and call your local Sheriff department or even city police, I prefer to use the Sheriff's office they are usually larger and have more information available. Have the police department run that serial number to make sure it is not a stolen item!! About 4 years ago a local guy here in Alabama purchased a Gibson Les Paul off of marketplace and he got it for a steal, I think he paid like $300 for it and this was a CUSTOM!! Well, within about a week the seller listed another great guitar at a cheap price, then he did it again, and again and finally the police were called and they found out this guy was out stealing these guitars! He was only stealing like one a week from different areas and thanks to the first buyer he got caught. The first buyer thought it was odd that his guy told him he only had that Custom that he bought, but now he has sold like 4 or 5 more? So, do your due diligence and check with the cops, other wise you might get woke up one night with police officers shining a bright light in your face lol.

    • @alabamahebrew
      @alabamahebrew 4 роки тому +1

@Pompous Psycho Did you know that the according to the Supreme Court that police departments do NOT have to respond to any calls, emergency or not, that they don;t want to? Yup, according to the Supreme Court police departments work for the city/county/state and they are not required to respond to any civilian call for help. Kind of messed up huh? Here we thought they were supposed to do this, that was the entire reason for their very existence and yet the Court says nope. Hey, I am a truck driver and I have had to make deliveries and make pickups in some of those real bad areas of Detroit and Chicago, lol yeah I don't blame the cops I wouldn't want to go in there at night lo.

FB Marketplace is a real mixed bag. Generally when I've asked for more photos I get them - so it's always worth doing that, especially if there's something specific you want a look at!
My best score was a parts Tele that had a Lollar '52 neck pup, Wilkinson bridge, Fender bridge pickup (I can't remember exactly but it's a vintage voiced one from an American series), Fender Cabronita 2013 neck (confirmed by serial number!), and a quite beat up Ash(?) Thinline body - which was the most interesting part of the guitar. A nice Seafoam Green poly finish that seems to be painted over a Daphne Blue finish that you can see from the various chips around the body, neck socket stamped SOB (no idea!). Thing sounds amazing, and all for just over £250!!
The only thing really wrong with it is the neck pickup for some bizarre reason is mounted with these huge screws about twice the size of a regular pickup screw, which ruins the look a little.

I think that Resolator is almost tempting enough to catch me if I were in your area. The thumb picks are a nice add on bonus. The Epiphones are not all bolt ons. I had a friend Gary that had a 70's one that had a set neck. I don't know if that makes it a better guitar though. His guitar was beatiful and could have been $1000 guitar. The bolt-on ones are pretty decent. I would be comfortable selling one around 500-600 bucks and not feel like I was getting over on someone. I think they have a bit of a cult following lately. They could go up in price, but it would be inflation. Plus, nowadays you can get a whole lot of acoustic guitar once your willing to spend $500.

For the epiphone acoustic that was listed at $1234, he probably wants offers or to trade. The 1234 is there because you have to put something in the price line, even if you are just looking to trade.

I had a Kay hollowbody acoustic with a GIGANTIC hole in it. Completely unusable because of the hole sadly. It was BEAUTIFUL though.

That Yellow Ibanez Iceman was prob made to Paul Gilbert specs. If you look at some of his the neck pickup is offset like that. It was most likely done intentionally

I belong to a few Facebook Groups that specifically deal with people selling and buying instruments. This seems to be a more "predictable" way to get instruments on Facebook than the general Marketplace. From these groups I've gotten some pretty great deals. I got a 2009 American Standard Strat with Fender TSA-style case for $600. It needed a fairly involved setup since it was a touring musician who played it a lot and never really bothered with maintaining it. It's pretty cool because the band made a video with it and it is featured on their album art, so it has a bit of a story. I also got a 1954 Gibson LG-1 acoustic that was in pretty neglected shape (missing a brace, the bridge pulled the top, the tuning keys disintegrated) for about $300. I sent it to a guy who specializes in "student grade" acoustics from the 50's and 60's who did a complete restoration and upgrade for about a grand. It's now my favorite guitar. I also snagged a Shure 55 mic for about $20, a pair of the Line6 big pedals (the DL4 green delay and the blue ML4 Modulation) for about $200 for the pair and a Peavey Deuce II from like 1978 for $70 that was damp at one point, but I did a restoration of it ordering new hardware and redoing the grill and things like that and it's a pretty cool amp to have around-- it is solid state with a tube power stage.

Austin, you should do a search in the Austin TX area. With their music scene, there should be a lot of good stuff.

The epi acoustic looks to have a zero fret which is usually a pretty clear indicator of a Japanese made guitar. They used the old blue Kalamazoo labels for a little bit in Japan so that could be a little confusing. They’re not worth much. People sometimes ask a premium for them because they get confused by the blue label thinking they are USA, or they just don’t know that they’re really not built very well…

This is a good video, I've been trolling in my local Marketplace for a while now and we're from a place where not a lot of people are very intelligent when it comes to selling stuff online so I can like really take advantage of some of the deals and some of the people on there my only problem is I don't know how to assess the condition of a guitar well enough. Can you do a video will you teach me how to look at the neck how to look at certain things how to look for certain things and how to sort of get an idea of what I'm buying. Currently some guy that lives like a baseball throw away from me has an epiphone Zakk Wylde camo bullseye for a good price but I don't know if it's worth it or not I don't want to take the risk I'm not rich enough to take a risk there's also a prophecy Futura for sale locally but it's been on the page for like a year and it gets taken down it gets put back up and it's really cheap the only $300 Canadian so that makes me think that there's something wrong with it and maybe they're just looking to you know get rid of it on somebody that doesn't know how to look at the condition correctly. So yeah it it's one thing the show us how to look around online for guitars but that information is almost useless if you don't give us the pointers of what to look for and when to walk away. Thanks trogly

I like marketplace because you can find some $20 -$50 freshly posted instruments.. My g310b MIK January 93 was $40 and it's literally like new and quirky. I also have a Takamine G NEX that I paid $75 for.. Also perfect. This nice digital pattern identifying quarter sawn neck down the center..
G400s all day for $200ish but the higher priced stuff always seems to link to a guy like yourself. The same processional photos etc.
But you always have the guy who posts for $75 then gladly takes $40.
If you can fix things you can get free stuff.

I'm a fan of Japanese guitars so I think you should go to Ishibashi U-box or Rakuten and hunt. Finding a deal might be harder but man do you find the coolest guitars over there! I had a friend who used to work over there and he bought and filled cargo containers and sold them off over here. This was when the Yen was really cheap, I miss those days.

Enjoying the channel man. Have you shopped at Good Will? No kiddin, shopgoodwill.con (with a “m”of course) has a musical instrument section and it subs to guitars and even acoustic/electric or amps and electronics. I bought a couple of things and people do donate Gibsons and Fenders and other old stuff. Deals are spotty, some cool stuff never gets a bid and other stuff sells for way too much. It’s fun looking though.

THat Epi with the bolt on is a old Japanese model. Most are really good quality. I just missed out on one with flamed maple (rare IMO) on a trade proposition. I took too long thinking/researching on it, as I would rather sell the Roland JC77 I've listed, Thinning out my amp collection. That Kramer striker is just down the road from me, saw that ad in my feed...tempting.

That bridge saddle on that Epiphone makes me think it is a 60's model or a 70's japan(?) made. No inlay in headstock might take it out of 60's

I have an old epiphone acoustic with a set neck, and I'm not gonna lie it's the best acoustic guitar I've ever played, I got it for about 400 in trade, I've played guitars that cost four times as much that don't touch its tone. Sometimes you can't beat well seasoned wood. I'd steer clear of the bolt on necks though. I've known a couple of people who've had them and the necks bow like crazy and aren't stable with tuning
