It has been wonderful watching how gentle and caring you are with your horses. You are providing an video archive for farming done by many of our grand and great grandfathers. Thank you for the effort of you and your lovely family for the time devoted to your UA-cam channel. I was delighted to see the 'hunter caravan' again this year.

At good video as usual, today was a bonus for me. I was watching with my 6 yr. old grandaugther. At 6:10 when you were talking about the pressure on the frog she reached out and paused the video and looked at me with big eyes and said" do horses reely step on frogs that's gross". After i was able to stop laughing I explained what a horses frog was.

For a horse who is in shoes all of the time, Bill has great looking frogs! I would expect thrush but there appears to be none!

You could also for when say your on the gravel and the horses don’t have traction then you could get studs to put in the bottom so they have a little traction

We had a Welsh pony that got into the oats bin and foundered. My cousin was farrier and he and I were trimming her hooves, they were in tough shape and she could barely walk on her front feet. So we put shoes on her fronts to protect her feet and eas the pain. The help with the blood flow I welded a steel strap 1 1/2" wide across the frog area. We then trimmed her so the frog was making contact with the strap. We had to trim and reset her shoes again in 4 weeks because her feet were growing so fast. By the second trimming you could not tell she had foundered. Maybe a steel strap on those heavy pull shoes would help?

good question, thanks Brenda. I also hope you hit and exceed the 50k subscribers. I don't live on a farm, nor have I ever had a horse but if I did it would be a draft horse. Thxs for explaining every aspect to us. my question, you've now put in a new nail and your bending off the piece that pokes thru. did it loosen the nail on the shoe side?

I have likely watched all your video's by now. I like them and I like your style with the horses and the training of the young ones. What I would really like to know is how much land are you using to provide food for the horses and then what the difference would be in costs if you used a tractor instead of horses to do the work ?

My son and I have come away from the shoeing stock for our horses (both are over 2400 ls.), instead I trained them to give their feet, which we then support with the so-called 'cradle'. Nevertheless, hats off to your shoeing job.

Great video. I have a few questions about shoes if you don't mind.
How long does a shoe remain on a horse's foot before you have to re shoe?
Do draft horses require shoeing more often than riding horses?
Do you switch shoes for different jobs such as logging and go back to a flat shoe or do you leave shoes on until they need to be replaced?
If you replace a shoe on one foot do normally replace any others at the same time or only one at a time?
Do you put the same type shoe on all four feet or vary them by front and back feet?
    Thanks.

Здравствуй, Джим. У нас в России большим счастьем считается когда человек находит изношенную подкову. Обычно её прикрепляют к входной двери дома для счастья. И что бы чаша была полная то подкову крепят "рожками"
