I was flying into Albuquerque when the lady next to me on the plane told me about this "old" song about Albuquerque. I remembered a week later after I got home and "Googled" this beautiful song. I have always LOVED Marty Robbins, Ronnie Milsap.... This humble, sweet man use to tour with Marty Robbins. Angel Blessings. Amen.
Albuquerque is such a beautiful city with the mountains behind it. I’m from Manitoba Canada and I used to pass through Albuquerque every February for many years on my way to Mesa Arizona.
You chose the right city. Albuquerque is absolutely beautiful bad amazing to pass through, but it has fallen from grace. I miss the Albuquerque of my childhood. THAT Albuquerque was a place to adore. I love that place so much, but it's not what it once was.
Desert moon, lights the freeway up tonight, Chevy van, how I wish that you could fly. Gotta get to her and tell her I was wrong, But I'm still such a long, long way from home, And the road goes on, on and on, on and on. But the Lights of Albuquerque, will soon be shining bright, Like a diamond in the desert, like a beacon in the night. And I wonder if she'll take me back, will she understand? Will the Lights of Albuquerque, shine for me again? Thinking back, to the foolish things I said. Looking out, at the white lines up ahead. Gonna tell her I can't make it on my own. Oh, this empty feeling won't leave me alone. It goes on and on, on and on, on and on But the Lights of Albuquerque, will soon be shining bright, Like a diamond in the desert, like a beacon in the night. And I wonder if she'll take me back, will she understand? Will the Lights of Albuquerque, shine for me again?
I first heard this song dancing at a cowboy dance bar called Dallas Nightclub in El Paso, TX. It will always be my favorite to dance to with someone special.
It was iron horse saloon night club back in 2012 when I first got stationed there. This song always takes me literally back in time to those days and nights out in the desert.
+1 - always one of those "have to find a dance partner" and get on that sawdust floor at Dallas Nightclub in EP. Great memories and song for that matter!!
I think of those many late nights dancing at the old Caravan lounge and then going to Frontier for late night (early morning) eats with friends. So many great memories from this iconic song. Patricia, I miss you.
My childhood heading over mile 9 Mile Hill. Never knowing some lil chic named Holly was somewhere within, it being there somewhere one of them's her Holmes. 😊😅😁❤

Whenever I go to Albuquerque, I make sure I have this song playing. Love that city. Historic and underrated and maligned.

I remember when they would say Last Call and then they would play this son at Dallas night club or DnD's night club❤
What a nice memory. My slow dancing days are long gone but it's a pretty thought, for sure.

From the pen of Bob McDill. The songwriter who wrote “Amanda”, “Don’t Close Your Eyes”, and dozens of other brilliant songs
Thank you. I'll have to look up those other songs now, too.
