Carrie said in an interview once that while Vince played his solo, the Holy Spirit took over and she did not even remember singing the rest of the song. Carrie is a believer and her Christian album is awesome.

I used to work for an insurance company that was controlled by a family. They would have a huge Christmas party for the staff and bring in performers like Faith Hill or Michael Buble. A couple years after I left, the CEOs' father died. How Great Thou Art was his favorite song. They brought Carrie in for the party to sing it as a tribute to him. According to a friend, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when she was done.

Kathy here - first, the reason she sounds like she is in another world, is because when she sings gospel music, that is where here heart lies, and believes. She is a true believer. And a standing ovation before she was even finished with the performance. Such respect from the Country Music world.
That's the power of God. She has a God given talent. She said she felt the power of God all over her as she was singing this. 🎶 I cry 😢 everytime I hear this along with the chills.

Oh, I thought it was an awards show, too, and I was gonna agree that "only in Country music".... Cuz, recently, I think it was Thomas Rhett prayed on a Country music award show---I think it was when Kane Brown's drummer got killed---and then Reba was next-up, and she gave strict orders, that they better not cut that out of the show (that it better be broadcast), and they didn't cut it (I guess when an elder statesmen, so to speak, speaks, you better listen). I remember thinking, then, nowhere else would I get the fulfillment of all that is good about life!!
Who was it that sang "God and Country Music"? Either George Jones or George Strait---I get them mixed-up, sometimes---that song was right-on!! ❤️

I’m not familiar with the many recordings of this hymn but I think Ms. Underwood just blew the roof off the building while speaking directly with God❤
Nobody will ever do this song even close to as great as this was done. After all these years of seeing this the first time, I still get emotional every time I watch. I can't imagine being in the audience when this was done. A standing ovation with a minute left in her performance, shows the power that was in that auditorium, that night. I don't want to leave out Vince Gill. He was stellar, but still allowed Carrie to shine.
This song was played at my Dad’s and brother’s funeral 😭When an audience of country music superstars jumps up with a standing ovation long before the song is finished, you know you have witnessed something really special. And Vince Gill knock it out of the park. He was also amazing. Carrie said in an interview that the Holy Spirit took over during the guitar solo and she did not even remember finishing the song. This is one of the best renditions out there. Carrie brought everyone to church. At the end of the song there was no music playing, just her. Amazing ♥️🕊️
This brings me tears because you feel that this is a praise song for them, not just another chance to show off their talents. So often artists forget the meaning behind the song, but they don’t. There’s also Softly and Tenderly that Carrie did live honoring a lot of artists that passed away. That one destroyed me beautifully also.

This is an old Gospel song. She has a gospel album. Love that she performed it at the CMA’s but wasn’t sure if you were aware it is Gospel. I listen to this a couple of times a week over and over and I’m in awe EVERY SINGLE TIME! It has never gotten old and it’s probably from 10 plus years ago. I think it was her 1st award for country artist of the year or new artist of the year. I can’t remember but I adore her. She gives God all the glory and she’s not afraid to do it in front of millions. GOD BLESS HER AND TY FOR HER ANGELIC VOICE! ❤❤❤

This is the performance of her life. It's like she's totally in another world. She's never sounded better before or since. She has an amazing voice that is not always showcased on her singles.

This video is the shorter version. The original has Vince doing a longer guitar solo and he steps up on the part that got cut out. But the great thing is they didn't cut out any of Carrie's performance. What an awesome performance!

Every time I watch it I think the other performers in the audience are thinking "well ladies its official, we're playing for second ". I place this in the top 10 ever performed.
When I first her her sing this, I got teary eyed. I played it for my cousin and got goosebumps. If it doesn't make you teary eyed or get goosebumps, something is wrong

Carrie is an amazing singer. Vince Gill has the purest voice in all of country music and believe it or not, he’s really just a phenomenal guitar player who can sing.
Vince Gill is another guitar player that is respected by his peers, as one of the best. There are UA-cam channels where you can find get-togethers at his home. He has one room that is full of guitars.

I listen to this several times a month and it still brings chills and tears to my eyes. I believe what makes it special is Carrie has a deep faith and so does Vince. Vince is known not only as a wonderful singer but a fantastic guitar player. Both of them are fro my home state of Oklahoma.

This is one of her most amazing performances for sure, and she was very young and fresh from American Idol when it happened. Right before this Vince had done a great cover of Carries' "Jesus Take The Wheel", you should react to that video, it was awesome. Carrie has a recent live vid from the ACM's a year ago, called, "My Savior" and she duets with CeCe Wynan's, who is a major Gospel singer in the States. It will blow you away, much like this one does. It adds all of her training and growth over the years, and the maturity she's gained, and I think I was in tears at least twice through that performance while shivering through the whole thing. And CeCe Wynans is an amazing gospel vocalist. You should definitely check that one out. Love your reactions Craig, they are always a pleasure! ❤

Live and an audience full of talented performers who obviously truly appreciated the sheer beauty of this! I remember watching Carrie on American Idol and we just knew that she was special. This gave me goosebumps and a slight tear because it was so beautiful and flawless.

I saw this live when it was played on Good Friday years ago and have seen it countless times since. Without a doubt the most moving performance I have ever seen. It still has the power to uplift me and bring me to tears all of these views later. Please catch her performances of her gospel album, My Savior that she performed live at the Opry on Easter Sunday. Well worth watching. Very moving performances including her incredible duet with CeeCee Wynan.

You are such a cutie, so sensitive and lover of country music. I was never a lover of country music until I listened to John Denver and actually went to a Reba McIntire concert. I always thought that this kind of music is somewhat corny. I guess I am too 'corny'. In other words, feeling, sensitive and warm.
I love John Denver. Not a big country fan either, though every so often a group (person) will grab me. Annie's Song will always be one of my favorites.

I do remember the first time I watched it, I could feel and see when the Holy Spirit entered Carrie’s body. The Holy Spirit was present during that performance. The people in the audience were standing up long before she finished the song. Vince Gill does really well with anyone he duets with. He has awesome harmony. I love that he did a guitar solo, which was beautiful. This song is at the top of my list as well!
