Did you ever have a similar toy koala when you were young? They were popular when I was an infant in the '60's and I still have mine, I'm not embarrassed to say. They were made with kangaroo skin in case you were wondering.
@@warrenmilford1329 No,unfortunately I didn't.I was also born in the 60s(1968),but in the US,so all I had were teddy bears.😁I would have loved a toy koala, though!
@@starletohara1631 Thank you for your reply, and please excuse my presumption that you were Aussie. From the way you spoke of the band, I just presumed you were, but then I had forgotten how big they were in the States. Yea, I was born in '64 and I named mine Kootchie Koala. @@warrenmilford1329 No worries, mate!😁Ha ha!Yes,I am from America, but MAW were huge in the US in 1982-83 and are still my favorite band ever.It goes without saying that I had an enormous crush on Greg, which was a large part of the reason why I loved them so much;but there's no denying what a talented group of musicians they all were, too.
@@starletohara1631 Ha, Ha, love it. It's so good to know that an Aussie band had such a huge impact in the States, and that you like them so much. I saw them play in the early '80's. @@KeithWilliamMacHendry yes, I’m well aware of his heritage and love both sides deeply, but this was a celebration of the Australian side. And Australia is my favorite place on earth so it’s a double ear cupcake for me!🧁
ONE OF THE BEST SONG EVER! LOVE THIS SONG TOOO MUCH! I sing and play it on the guitar 2 or 3 time a week since I know it ( nearly 40 years) . It's amazing for me to watch the band live , playing this ICON OF THE ROCK! Thankz Colin for being one of my references, since I know MAW! My respects (and some tears) for Greg, (you know what I'm saying). "I come from the land Argentina, where women are so beauty and all drink wine and beer! " And we wait for you all, Colin and MAW!! Sending love and light❤❤🙏🙏👏👏👍👍
I love this song! ❤️ The first time I heard this song when it came out, it has been on an audiocassette with many other hits from this time, a common habit in the 80s, we exchanged the cassettes with other teenies. :-) There was Down Under and Helpless Automaton on the cassette and I didn't even know that it was the same band but I loved both songs and was very happy as I discovered that. As you can imagine, I bought the album (Business As Usual) and later (Cargo) and listened to all these masterpieces over and over again and, I was 13 in 1980, you can imagine that it's the best compliment you can make in the 80s, because this decade was full of great epic bands and singers and hits. But Men At Work hit me then right into my musical center. Colin, thank you very much! Greetings to the band and Cecilia...before I forget...I am very happy that the next song will be Be Good Johnny! :-) And I'm dying to know what song #20 will be. ;)
Colin.....your best song ever!!!!!! Be proud of making this absolute great song ever!!! A song for eternity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
40 blessed minutes !!! I think I’ve listened to this song about a thousand times. Maybe more. I hope to listen to it at least two thousand more. Thank you ❤ from Rio de Janeiro 🇧🇷
I always think of Greg when I hear this song. It's unforgivable what the greedy bastards and the injustice system did to him. Anyone with more than a single digit IQ knows it wasn't plagiarism.
I'm fairly sure that the whole copyright case only started after it was , incorrectly, put as a question on that show "Spicks and Specks", hosted by Adam Hills. The question was something like, what old Australian song did they get the flute solo from? The answer, as far as the show's researchers thought was, "Kookaburra Sit's In The Old Gum Tree". The copyright holders obviously found out about it, then legal action ensued. Before this there were no concerns at all about it, as far as I know.
Desde Chile, el otro "Down Under" mis saludos, respeto y agradecimiento a ti y a tu grupo Colin, ¡Suenan genial! La chica de los teclados y vientos es Maravillosa. Un gran talento que me hace recordar al gran Greg. Un abrazo a todos.
I really like this band. The Cubans are great. Miss Guatemala can play many instruments. Mrs Peru sings good harmony and add some life to the stage show and interacts with the audience.
Hello Colin, I always admired the work of the band Men At Work under your command, now I see that you continue to present us with great songs, congratulations on your work, big hug.
A huge thank you from my Family and I for continuing to provide these amazing video's during this pandemic. Mr.. Colin Hay, you are truly an amazing person and out of this world musician / singer. Your music brought so many wonderful memories back in the day and now my Wife and my two little girls are enjoying your amazing music and creating wonderful memories for them now. My Wife,, my two little girls and I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting you after the show in Ojai at the Libbey Bowl. Cecilia Noel and San Miguel Perez also took time after that show to talk with us and photos. A huge thank you from us to all of you for continuing to bring wonderful memories to everyone. Thank You. In 1983 I was curious of Vege mite from this great song. In 1996 I finally have found a Vegemite at a supermarket in Auckland New Zealand. I still remember I had to throw it away to rubbish bin. At that time Vegemite was nothing but a poo.
Sencillamente fantástico La musica clásica no tiene fronteras ni murallas que la frenen, siempre llega a dónde tiene q llegar en el momento justo, me trae gratos recuerdos de juventud. Saludos!!
Holy crap, your voice, Colin, is untouched. _Down Under_ was one of the tunes in a compilation cassette I bought (well, my mother did, indeed) at the market. It was 1981, I guess. Well, you are now, present, looking good and singing so extraordinarily. Thank you.
Still a brilliant song after all these years with a voice that defies the years. Reminds me of what was said by Ray Wylie Hubbard in reference to his song "Redneck Mothers." The most imporant question in songwriting is not your vocal range or even how well you sing. It is not about how well you play an instrument. What is most important is - can you sing this song for the next 50 years. Obviously, Colin has and will. God bless you and your family and thank your for giving us decades of musical enjoyment, While I like this song a lot and cover it, myself, my favorite is probably "Overkill" and I really liked Colin's cameo in "Scrubs."
Ehhhh pushing it a bit on the best version you’ve ever heard - in my opinion the flute and of course Colin were great but the rest wasn’t so good especially his wife singing backup vocals
Ah yes, the alternative Aus national anthem :) . I reckon it's about level pegging now with Waltzing Matilda. This song brings good memories of MAW of course, Australia II and her skipper, ladies I've met, boofy blokes, faraway lands, and the one land that ties it all together. Cheers. PS. Congrats also on the Global APRA award.
I hear the flute part is different than the original. And I'm sure it's because of the copyright lawsuit. Men at work is a group that me and my son and I could listen to
What a great performance and sound. I wish I could get you to do a wee interview for my wee Scottish radio station - we always play you due to your Scottish roots.
