That was the best ending statement by Mr. Glasgow. That is something you dont see alot today. I've always been intimidated to go into these high end stores especially if Im not buying anything. That was a very heartfelt invitation. This was an amazing series Kirby Thanks.

Awesome shoes, I am speechless. A little bit more coverage on the boots would be well appreciated. Thanks for the great video.

    Hello Kirby,
I greatly enjoyed your videos about bespoke shoes in general & the Cleverley shoes in particular.
Both you & those gentlemen you interviewed who are involved with shoemaking pointed out both the tangible & less tangible benefits of owning & wearing bespoke shoes.
I don’t doubt you are all correct as although I’ve never had a pair of bespoke shoes I do wear a bespoke sports-coat or suit nearly every day. An off the peg 40” regular jacket is likely to fit me quite well but it can’t compare to the fit, feel & satisfaction I get from something made just for me.
Now you’ve got several pairs of bespoke shoes, do you find they’ve caused a feeling dissatisfaction with your RTW shoes even though those are of fine quality (e.g. G&G)?
I ask because I mostly wear Edward Green shoes & I’d hate to end up feeling dissatisfied with them if I go & start wearing Cleverly bespoke - I’d love to try at least one pair.
    Regards
    Russell

Haha. Russell - you've hit the nail on the head. There is no question that I strictly prefer wearing my bespoke shoes vs. even my best RTW. I just got back from a factory tour with Gaziano & Girling. I can say that for certain they are doing the absolutely highest-quality RTW shoes available. They have an incredible operation.
That said, there are still some very subtle, but important, differences between RTW and bespoke. I was actually texting with George Glasgow Jr about this very topic the other day. The difference is very nuanced... and after having been wearing bespoke shoes for about five years, learning about how they are made, and visiting a RTW factory, this is how I describe the difference:
Owning a pair of bespoke shoes is like walking barefoot on a silk Persian rug vs. thick carpet with a pair of RTW.
What does this mean? Not only are bespoke shoes incredibly comfortable, but the way that the way the hand-sewn welt is done allows the shoe to sit about 3mm closer to the ground than the equivalent RTW shoe. In order for a RTW shoe to be goodyear welted, a linen strip has to be glued to the insole that the uppers are then stitched to. This crates a 3-4mm gap between the insole and outsole that has to be filled with hot cork. In a bespoke shoe, this gap is about 1 mm and is filled with steel roofing felt.
The difference contributes to one of the most nuanced construction differences of a bespoke pair of shoes: your foot sits closer to the ground and the shoe is lighter.
You might think this is utter nonsense, but think about it in terms of a sports car. There is no question that a lighter-weight car that sits closer to the ground drives and performs better than one that doesn't. I feel the same is true for shoes. Big difference? No. Worth the $4,000 price premium? Highly questionably. ;)
Anyway - this is add in addition to the (1) relationship, (2) artisanship, (3) fit, and (3) available customization that all comes with a bespoke shoe. I could clearly speak at a great length... and I might turn this into a video...

      Kirby,
Thanks for full & interesting reply.
It seems like there’s no escape once such shoes are owned & worn.
Should I take a trip down to Cleverley I’ll definitely have to keep in mind that my existing shoes are just as good as they always were - even if they can’t compare to Cleverley’s finest.
      Regards
      Russell
