  • In the first part of our interview series with the world's best custom shoemaker, George Cleverley, George Glasgow Sr. shares the story of his early shoemaking days, from working with George Cleverley himself to eventually assuming ownership of the shop.
    George Cleverley is widely considered to be one of the finest London shoemakers, often having its name appear next to other other greats in the trade, such as John Lobb or Foster & Sons.

      Zeppelin Hugo’s video work at PG is superb, but he also has a background in film. We’re having a lot of fun producing this content and look forward to bringing more great content to this channel. We’ve got some incredible things planned!

    Kirby. As a result of your video I decide to purchase a pair of Cleverley shoes. I met with George Jr. and Adam in Austin and ordered a pair. Can't wait to try on my Cleverleys. Keep up the good work.

      I think we have a great community here, on this channel and maybe on other channels like this one. And we learn from each other so much! And we share something that must be shared, a fine art.

    This is an excellent interview! Always thought a King's boot maker would be high up, condescending and snobbish. A very down to earth man actually. Nice to know the real people behind some big name.

      Ronny R yes I casually enquired about shoes in the shop and he treated me with no less importance than I would imagine he’d treat his highest and most prolific customers like the Baron.
      If first impressions count for anything he seemed very genuine and equally as enthusiastic about creating bespoke casual shoes. I’m still saving up for my first pair!

    It'd be extraodinarily expensive, but it would be interesting to have the same type of shoe made by an English, an Italian, a French, a Japanese and an American shoemaker including the process for comparison.

    Wonderful Interview Kirby. Now on to part II and then try to watch the following videos pertaining to George Cleverly shoes. In your professional opinion how do these shoes compare to John Lobb shoes?

      Not only that, but George Glasgow Sr. is in the movie! The whole time I was watching this, I was thinking how familiar he looked. He plays Daniel Day-Lewis' characters' business partner. The movie is incredible.

    For me, it was bespoke shoes with nothing else bespoke. I doubt very much I will ever get a bespoke suit, but for me it is not that my means are so great, but that I fall in the first group Mr. Glasgow mentions - my foot requires a bespoke shoe.

    Well, from what I gather, in shoemaking if one strives to achieve the utmost style, it will always result in some loss of comfort? So should a balanced shoe should be sought for or one should choose depending on how much he walks?

    Hi Kirby. Very interdsting video!
    Do you know the viennese bespoke shoemaker Rudolf Scheer and Sons? If so, what do you think of them? (I think their price is at about 5000 Euros)

    It would be great if you could visit Kielman's family business - Jan Kielman shoemaker in Warsaw. They provide top quality in way more acceptable prices, like 1000-1500USD for a pair.

  • @jonhill373
    @jonhill373 2 роки тому

    Given that feet change with age, both fat and bone structure, how does bespoke shoes speak to that reality? The same can certainly be said for a suit for instance. Suits, as we all know, are designed with extra fabric in areas that can be let out as needed. Not everyone shrinks with age.

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  5 років тому +4

      I believe this suit from from Anderson & Sheppard but that George had lost some weight due to some health issues (as is common with men as they age). The suit probably just fit larger than normal.

    it’s so utterly unnecessary and distracting to have that dumb background music that detracts from listening to this master craftsman. get rid of it and stop adding it.
