    In this video I make my entry for the #rocklerdeskchallenge the 'sling desk.' This desk has been designed to better integrate work and storage environments; allowing the desk-top to be quickly cleared away whilst still providing easy access to reference books and papers. The cutout and sling also allows cord and plugs to be passed through the table top, and provides the perfect place to rest a pencil, store bigger pieces of stationary like rulers or lean a special book or painting.

    Brilliant. My guess : You don't only love making things, you clearly love making movies too right ?

      Thanks Alex & I would say its a love, hate relationship! I love piecing together a story line and how it enables you to share projects, but I do sometimes wish there was somebody who was more adept at film-making to create better shots and flow :)

      Killing it is an overreaction but thank you Keith! You mentioned in one of your last videos that you're in need of a desk - are you thinking of doing it in time to enter this competition?

    I like that your design encourages laying out multiple inspirational materials but a clean slate can be achieved in almost no time if you have to spend time working on the boring bits like taxes, processing invoices, general admin. I have a hard time actually working at a desk space because i don't want to put all the accumulated paperwork/books away-the storage slot is a great solution! I always enjoy your work-thanks for putting forth the effort that you do, it is noticed and appreciated. Cheers from Kentucky!

    It’s 10:31 that got me. Maybe I missed it earlier but the fact the legs fit into each other when flat-packed... It’s the thought about the whole design that is so impressive. It’s not just a table with a unique feature, it’s also that it’s incredibly practical. It bolts together very quickly and then disassembles into a package barely bigger than the table top. If you used a quick release locking pin or bolts with wings on for hand tightening (no tools required), added a carry hole in the table top and means of clamping the legs to it while in transit, then you’d have the ultimate go-anywhere instant table. Marvellous!

    • @jmakes3745
      @jmakes3745  3 роки тому +1

      I would love to say I designed the legs to fit inside of each other but I was just as surprised when they did haha! But thanks Rob & nice ideas to make it a table better suited to transit; I think some sort of faster you could tighten by hand, or alternatively a place to store an Allen key within the desk, could work well.

    Thank for the video JM. You could make a desk with all three storage slots. Left, right and back like you show separately. Your standard of making and finish is getting better all the time. Keep safe and stay well.

    • @jmakes3745
      @jmakes3745  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Colin + I was deliberating for a while about where to put the slot but ultimately thought having it on the side would give you more desk space, especially because I tend to put a laptop on the back and notebook at the front. I didn't mention it in the video but the table top is actually completely symmetrical so you can always flip the side it lies on too.

    • @jmakes3745
      @jmakes3745  3 роки тому +1

      Although it would be nice to try out a long slot at the back, so you could fit store more books + I was also thinking about possibly making a stationary pot/sling.

    You were doing so well with joinery that I cringed a little when I saw bolts. But, off course it's totally understandable if you want it to be easily disassembled. End product looks very polished. Props on milling your own hardwood. All in all, highly impressed.

    • @jmakes3745
      @jmakes3745  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Borys, I really appreciate it and yes it would have been nice to be able to keep to traditional joinery methods, but it had to travel a few hundred miles in the car so I thought it would be best if it could come apart - I did try and keep all the fixings hidden though in the final piece :)

    Great work man. This is why I've subscribed long ago, and honestly these are the projects in which I think you thrive. Your cool ideas and great craftsmanship really show up in these projects, keep it up. Would love to see only wood joinery, but I can totally get that this is very convenient for assembly and disassembly. Again, great work and congrats.
